A practical guide to radiation safety Many health and scientific professionals require a basic understanding of radiological safety principles, even and especially if they are not specialists in radiological health. Principles of Radiological Health and Safety is designed for this purpose as well as a resource for safety personnel who also handle radiation safety duties. It is a text of basic concepts needed in broad-based protection programs, with real-world examples and practice problems to demonstrate principles and hone skills. Resource data for practical problems in radiation protection are provided along with illustrative examples of their use. For example, modes and energies of radioactive transformation, radiation attenuation and absorption, dose coefficients, and environmental transport parameters are included for many of the common circumstances encountered in laboratory and industrial settings. these are cross referenced to standard compendiums for straightforward use when more in-depth listings need to be consulted. Other topics include: - Atom structure and radioactivity
- Radiation protection standards and programs
- Radiation interactions and dose
- Environmental radiological assessment
- Radiation shielding
- Radon
- Internal radiation dosimetry
- Radioactive waste
Safety professionals as well as students and teachers will find Principles of Radiological Health and Safety to be an invaluable addition to their professional and academic libraries.
This exciting text provides a mathematically rigorous yet
accessible textbook that is primarily aimed at atmospheric science
majors. Its accessibility is due to the texts emphasis on
conceptual understanding.
The first five chapters constitute a companion text to
introductory courses covering the dynamics of the mid-latitude
atmosphere. The final four chapters constitute a more advanced
course, and provide insights into the diagnostic power of the
quasi-geostrophic approximation of the equations outlined in the
previous chapters, the meso-scale dynamics of thefrontal zone, the
alternative PV perspective for cyclone interpretation, and the
dynamics of the life-cycle of mid-latitude cyclones.Written in a
clear and accessible styleFeatures real weather examples and global
case studiesEach chapter sets out clear learning objectives and
tests students' knowledge with concluding questions and answers
A Solutions Manual is also available for this textbook on the

..".a student-friendly yet rigorous textbook that accomplishes
what no other textbook has done before... I highly recommend this
textbook. For instructors, this is a great book if they don't have
their own class notes - one can teach straight from the book. And
for students, this is a great book if they don't take good class
notes - one can learn straight from the book. This is a rare
attribute of advanced textbooks."

From the horrors of the deep comes.... HOT GARBAGE. Volume 2. A
shocking and totally unnecessary follow-up to the first book that
sold dozens! (?) Prepare for shocks, spills, and bone-crunching
chills as you meet old characters, new characters, and things with
Cat-titude. It recently bumped off chlamydia as 'Worst things you
could gift somebody" on Forbes' worst 100 Christmas Gift list.* and
would make a great companion to the blue book you may have been
goaded into purchasing earlier in the year! Actually features fan
content, never before published content, and other stuff in an
enjoyable, handy-dandy, easy to roll up and swat away insects with
format! *this is a straight-up lie. don't sue or hold to
credibility.
