These journals provide great insight into the mind and art of one of the great 20th century artists. Though born in Poland, he is best known for his paintings of Welsh miners, for it was workers that inspired him, and he painted them with great simplicity, almost as monuments to work, and often with the sun and sky behind them so that they looked like latter-day saints.
