In "The Tree That Tells the Tale," the story is told by the tree and its various parts. The tree, Tanza, has given its parts names: Barbara Branches, Bob Bark; Linda Limb, Nelson Nest; Randy Roots, Sam Sap and Teresa Trunk. Tanza stands in the yard of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. A solitary tree, Tanza has stood in the church yard for generations and was a witness to everything that took place there during the heights of the Civil Rights Era. During the heights of the Civil Rights Era, the 16th Street Baptist Church in Montgomery was bombed, and four little girls were killed. Tanza decides to tell the story for a new generation. She witnessed the bombing and observed the man who set the bomb.
