Die Frage nach Mannlichkeiten wurde bislang auch in der musikwissenschaftlichen Genderforschung nur zogerlich gestellt, trotz ihrer grundlegenden Bedeutung fur die Musikgeschichtsschreibung, die Musikpadagogik und die soziale Kulturarbeit. Musik als nahezu omniprasentes, vielseitiges und wirkungsmachtiges Medium transportiert permanent eine Fulle von Mannlichkeitsbildern und spiegelt damit gesellschaftliche Stromungen wider. Gleichzeitig pragt sie aber wiederum selbst eine Gesellschaft - insofern ist Musik ein hochst aufschlussreicher Untersuchungsgegenstand.
