Creativity pervades human life. It is the mark of individuality,
the vehicle of self-expression, and the engine of progress in every
human endeavor. It also raises a wealth of neglected and yet
evocative philosophical questions: What is the role of
consciousness in the creative process? How does the audience for a
work for art influence its creation? How can creativity emerge
through childhood pretending? Do great works of literature give us
insight into human nature? Can a computer program really be
creative? How do we define creativity in the first place? Is it a
virtue? What is the difference between creativity in science and
art? Can creativity be taught? The new essays that comprise The
Philosophy of Creativity take up these and other key questions and,
in doing so, illustrate the value of interdisciplinary exchange.
Written by leading philosophers and psychologists involved in
studying creativity, the essays integrate philosophical insights
with empirical research.
Responsible for raising her siblings, Lazarus and Mary, after her mother's untimely death, Martha finds solace in friendship and the beginnings of first love, until adversity strikes again. Many years later, a life-changing encounter with Jesus of Nazareth reawakens Martha's heart, even as she faces an unknown future.
No stranger to adversity, Martha of Bethany is a woman of dust, undone and unseen in her hurt and loss. After her mother's untimely death, the responsibility for raising her siblings--Lazarus and Mary--lies heavily on her shoulders. She finds solace in a new friendship and the beginnings of first love, but her father's disapproval and unforeseen hardship leave Martha broken and guarded.
Twelve years later, when her friend's husband contracts a severe disease, they send for the new rabbi, Jesus of Nazareth. Martha recognizes the miraculous Healer from a story she heard many years ago, and the life-changing encounter reawakens Martha's hardened heart, even as she faces an unknown future.
With impeccable research and a keen eye for detail, Heather Kaufman delivers a moving narrative of Martha's life in this hopeful story of love, loss, and the promise of redemption.
This volume critically re-examines the profession's understanding
of asset bubbles in light of the global financial crisis of
2007-09. It is well known that bubbles have occurred in the past,
with the October 1929 crash as the most demonstrative example.
However, the remarkably well-behaved performance of the US economy
from 1945 to 2006, and, in particular during the Great Moderation
period of 1984 to 2006, assured the economics profession and
monetary policymakers that asset bubbles could be effectively
managed with little or no real economic impact. The recent
financial crisis has now triggered a debate about the emergence of
a sequence of repeated bubbles in the Nasdaq market, housing
market, credit market and commodity markets. The Greenspan-Bernanke
Federal Reserve has followed an asymmetric approach to bubble
management. This method advocates no monetary policy action during
the bubble formation and growth, but a speedy response with a
reduction in market rates when a bubble bursts to reduce the
potential loss of output and employment. It was supported by
academic research and seemed to work well until September 2008 when
the financial system came close to a complete collapse. The
realities of the recent financial crisis have intensified
theoretical modeling, empirical methodologies, and debate on policy
issues surrounding asset price bubbles and their potentially
considerable adverse economic impact if poorly managed. Choosing to
take a novel approach, the editors of this book have selected five
classic papers that represent accepted thinking about asset bubbles
prior to the financial crisis. They also include original papers
challenging orthodox thinking and presenting new insights. A
summary essay by the editors highlights the lessons learned and
experiences gained since the crisis.

An immersive, sultry, heart-pounding historical reimagining of the
Robin Hood ballads, told through the piercing eyes of one of his spies.
Jane Crowe is an ordinary peasant girl who never dreamed she would work
for the infamous Lord of the Greenwood. But when she’s forced out of
her home, she has no choice but to turn to Robin Hood for help—and he
makes her an irresistible offer. He needs a pair of eyes in the King’s
Houses, and quiet, unassuming Jane—who has spent her whole life going
unnoticed—will be the perfect spy.
At first, Jane’s work for Robin seems straightforward. She whispers to
him about the nobles at King’s Houses and all their secrets, including
the new Sheriff of Nottingham, who would like nothing more than to see
Robin Hood’s head on a spike. But the more Jane is drawn into Robin’s
world, the more she’s drawn to Robin himself—a man as charismatic as he
is cunning, capable of plucking at her heart as easily as he notches an
arrow. As Robin’s tricks grow increasingly dangerous, and shockingly
violent, Jane starts to suspect that her hero cares more about his own
legacy than helping the common people—and that despite his declarations
of affection, he sees her as just another object to be stolen.
When Robin’s schemes implicate Jane in a brutal murder, she must
decide: is she prize to be won, a pawn to be used and discarded—or is
she an equal player in the game between nobles and thieves?
