This report identifies an approach to quantifying desired
conditions for two existing forest communities at Valley Forge
National Historical Park (NHP); a Dry Oak Forest community and a
Successional Tuliptree Forest community. The framework of the
National Vegetation Classification System (NVCS) was used to write
the descriptions for the desired conditions and compare target
communities to globally described associations.
This document details the vegetation classification and mapping
which was completed for Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site,
It includes a current digital geospatial vegetation database for
the park. Six vegetation associations occurred within the park, and
these were identified and described in detail. The associations
were Northeastern Modified Successional Forest, Reed Canarygrass
Eastern Marsh, Reed-grass Tidal Marsh, Cattail Brackish Tidal
Marsh, Skunk-cabbage - Orange Jewelweed Seep, and Central Atlantic
Freshwater Subtidal River Bed.
