Viruses that infect plants are responsible for reduction in both
yield and quality of crops around the world, and thus are of great
economic importance. This has provided the impetus for the
extensive research into the molecular and cellular biology of these
pathogens and into their interaction with their plant hosts and
their vectors. However, interest in plant viruses extends beyond
their ability to damage crops. Many plant viruses - for example,
tobacco mosaic virus - have been used as model systems to provide
basic understanding of how viruses express genes and replicate.
Others permitted the elucidation of the processes underlying RNA
silencing, now recognized as a core epigenetic mechanism
underpinning numerous areas of biology. This book attests to the
huge diversity of research in plant molecular virology. Written by
world authorities in the field, the book opens with two chapters on
the translation and replication of viral RNA. Following chapters
cover topics such as viral movement within and between plants,
plant responses to viral infection, antiviral control measures,
virus evolution, and newly emerging plant viruses. The book
concludes with two chapters on biotechnological applications of
plant viruses. Throughout, the focus is on the most recent,
cutting-edge research, making this book essential reading for
everyone working with plant viruses.

The common, existing distance between children and adults is the
basis of this work, which has been addressed in many literary and
cultural works throughout history. Not being able to remember how
we, now adults, thought as children -like their spontaneity or
magic and omnipotent form of thinking- would leave children
completely isolated, like a helpless immigrant in a foreign land.
This book attempts to comprehend, how parents' misunderstanding,
can induce loneliness and helplessness in children, that with time
will become traumatic, and will remain unconsciously present in all
of us forever. It will continue to repeat using infantile emotions,
children form of thinking, and experiencing as well, loneliness,
anxiety, depression, fears and the chronic need of finding a
'rescuer', in the form of power, fame, drugs, money, religion, and
so on. This very innovative approach to the understanding of
children's segregation and its repercussion on adult's emotional
life, will be of invaluable interest to all practicing
psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, and parents included.
Building a better data culture can be the path to better results
and greater equity in schools. But what do we mean by data? Your
students are not just statistics. They aren't simply a set of
numbers or faceless dots on a proficiency scale. They are vibrant
collections of experiences, thoughts, perspectives, emotions,
wants, and dreams. And taken collectively, all of that information
is data-and should be valued as such. Equity in Data not only
unpacks the problematic nature of current approaches to data but
also helps educators demystify and democratize data. It shows how
we can bake equity into our data work and illuminate the
disparities, stories, and truths that make our schools safer and
stronger-and that help our students grow and thrive. To this end,
the authors introduce a four-part framework for how to create an
equitable data culture (along with a complementary set of data
principles). They demonstrate how we can rethink our approach to
data in the interest of equity by making five shifts: Expand our
understanding of data. Strengthen our knowledge of data principles.
Break through our fear of data. Decolonize our data gathering
processes. Turn data into meaningful, equitable action. We have an
opportunity to realign school data with what students want out of
their educational experiences. When we put equity first, we put
students first.

Over the past twenty years, the knowledge and understanding of
wastewater treatment has advanced extensively and moved away from
empirically based approaches to a fundamentally-based first
principles approach embracing chemistry, microbiology, and physical
and bioprocess engineering, often involving experimental laboratory
work and techniques. Many of these experimental methods and
techniques have matured to the degree that they have been accepted
as reliable tools in wastewater treatment research and practice.
For sector professionals, especially a new generation of young
scientists and engineers entering the wastewater treatment
profession, the quantity, complexity and diversity of these new
developments can be overwhelming, particularly in developing
countries where access to advanced level laboratory courses in
wastewater treatment is not readily available. In addition,
information on innovative experimental methods is scattered across
scientific literature and only partially available in the form of
textbooks or guidelines. This book seeks to address these
deficiencies. It assembles and integrates the innovative
experimental methods developed by research groups and practitioners
around the world. Experimental Methods in Wastewater Treatment
forms part of the internet-based curriculum in wastewater treatment
at UNESCO-IHE and, as such, may also be used together with video
records of experimental methods performed and narrated by the
authors including guidelines on what to do and what not to do. The
book is written for undergraduate and postgraduate students,
researchers, laboratory staff, plant operators, consultants, and
other sector professionals.

Eugene V. Gallagher and Patricia O’Connell have influenced a
generation of religious studies professors through their leadership
in Wabash Center teaching workshops. In this book, contributors pay
tribute to their influence and build on their insights in short
essays focused on three perennial themes: Place, Plan, and Persona.
Firstly, the book considers how negotiating your institutional
context is essential to effective teaching. Reflections include
essays on places of learning, the interaction between person and
place, and the online teaching environment. Secondly, the
contributors explore how effective teaching requires intentional
self-critical design of students’ intellectual experience, from
the arc of the course, to the scope and purpose of the curriculum.
Topics include planning for playfulness, teaching
‘strangeness’, and strengthening student engagement. In the
final section on persona, topics include humour in the classroom,
authenticity in the teaching profession, team teaching, and
ungrading. This book contributes to the scholarship of teaching and
learning in religious studies and higher education by engaging
Gallagher and Killen’s insights, and by exploring a range of
perspectives on core and enduring pedagogical concepts and
questions.
Despite the evolution of corporate governance in the last 30 years,
corporate scandals have not stopped appearing in the media and
academic documents. Therefore, this book presents a
multidisciplinary study of corporate governance, as its mechanisms
to reduce conflicts of interest and risk management must act as
preventers of ethical and financial problems. The number of
corporate scandals began to grow in the 1960s and peaked in the
1990s. From the first decade of the 2000s onwards, a remarkable
evolution has taken place in the regulation market. However, new
scandals continued to take place including the Subprime Crisis of
2008. New concepts such as corporate social responsibility (CRS),
independence, gender diversity, and shell companies were
incorporated. Until 2008 the scandals were mainly financial. Now,
cases of corruption, environmental accidents, unsafe working
conditions, child labor, and the political influence of power are
increasing, which this book intends to address. It is critical to
explore methodologies that allow collaboration among companies,
regulatory entities, and those that guide their behavior and to
ensure that they are consistent with the values of ethics,
legality, disclosure, social responsibility, and accountability.
Addressing Corporate Scandals and Transgressions Through Governance
and Social Responsibility examines the tools of management and
control that can be used as enforcement mechanisms of corporate
governance and social responsibility and provides critical research
on how to improve, discuss, and develop theories around fraud,
corruption, ethics, corporate governance, and corporate social
responsibility. Covering topics such as corporate scandal, human
rights, and business fraud, this publication is ideal for corporate
governance and social responsibility professionals such as
accountants, auditors, tax officers, counsellors, directors, and
managers as well as researchers, investors, and regulatory bodies
and authorities.
