This is the revised and enlarged 2nd edition of the authors' original text, which was intended to be a modest complement to Grenander's fundamental memoir on stochastic processes and related inference theory. The present volume gives a substantial account of regression analysis, both for stochastic processes and measures, and includes recent material on Ridge regression with some unexpected applications, for example in econometrics. The first three chapters can be used for a quarter or semester graduate course on inference on stochastic processes. The remaining chapters provide more advanced material on stochastic analysis suitable for graduate seminars and discussions, leading to dissertation or research work. This proceedings volume contains 66 papers presented at the second "Contact Mechanics International Symposium" held in Carry-Le-Rouet. France. from September 19th to 23rd. 1994, attended by 110 participants from 17 countries. This symposium was the continuation of the first CMIS held in 1992 in Lausanne. of the Symposium Euromech 273 "Unilateral Contact and Dry Friction" held in 1990 in La Grande Motte. France. and of the series of "Meetings on Unilateral Problems in Structural Analysis" organized in Italy. every other year. during the eighties. The primary purpose of the symposium was to bring specialists of contact mechanics together in order to draw a representative picture of the state of the art and to identify new trends and new features in the field. The material accumulated and presented in this volume can be ex plained easily. At the start of my graduate studies in the early 1950s, I Grenander's (1950) thesis, and was much attracted to the came across entire subject considered there. I then began preparing for the neces sary mathematics to appreciate and possibly make some contributions to the area. Thus after a decade of learning and some publications on the way, I wanted to write a modest monograph complementing Grenander's fundamental memoir. So I took a sabbatical leave from my teaching position at the Carnegie-Mellon University, encouraged by an Air Force Grant for the purpose, and followed by a couple of years more learning opportunity at the Institute for Advanced Study to complete the project. As I progressed, the plan grew larger needing a substantial background material which was made into an independent initial volume in (1979). In its preface I said: "My intension was to present the following material as the first part of a book treating the In ference Theory of stochastic processes, but the latter account has now receded to a distant future," namely for two more decades Meanwhile, a much enlarged second edition of that early work has appeared (1995), and now I am able to present the main part of the original plan."

The NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS) houses half a million publications that are a valuable means of information to researchers, teachers, students, and the general public. These documents are all aerospace related with much scientific and technical information created or funded by NASA. Some types of documents include conference papers, research reports, meeting papers, journal articles and more. This is one of those documents.

Reactive dyes containing diazo bonds are more resistant to anaerobic reduction in comparison to monoazo dyes. Reactive Yellow-145 (RY-145) which is used as a model dye is a diazo dye having -SO3H group in its structure. A novel bacterial consortium was isolated from the soil samples of a local dye manufacturing unit at Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. This culture was used for decolorization parametric study of RY-145 under various operating conditions. The consortium was successfully able to decolorize, 300 mg l-1 of selected dye up to 97% within 11 h under static facultative conditions at pH 7.0 and 37 C temperature. The UV - Visible Spectroscopic analysis results indicate the decolorization of dye. The HPLC and FTIR results confirm degradation of RY-145 into smaller compounds. For the commercial viability, combination of specially prepared synthetic medium and extract of agriculture waste is used as a growth medium for consortium in place of nutrient broth. COD reduction of nearly 70% is achieved for 20 times diluted industrial wastewater. Specially designed continuous column reactor (PMSCCR) has also been used for batch and continuous study of decolorization of RY-145.
