This volume comprises the edited proceedings of the 2006 CoreGRID Integration Workshop (CGIW'2006), held October 2006 in Krakow, Poland. A ?Network of Excellence? funded by the European Commission's Sixth Framework Program, CoreGRID, aims to strengthen and advance scientific and technological excellence in the area of Grid and Peer-to-Peer technologies by bringing together a critical mass of well-established researchers from 41 European research institutions. Achievements in European Research on Grid Systems covers, though is not limited to, the following topics: knowledge and data management; programming models; system architecture; Grid information, resource and workflow monitoring services; resource management and scheduling; systems, tools and environments; trust and security issues on the Grid. Designed for a professional audience of industry practitioners and researchers, Achievements in European Research on Grid Systems is also suitable for advanced-level students in computer science.
To help researchers from different areas of science understand and unlock the potential of the Polish Grid Infrastructure and to define their requirements and expectations, the following 13 pilot communities have been organized and involved in the PLGrid Plus project: Acoustics, AstroGrid-PL, Bioinformatics, Ecology, Energy Sector, Health Sciences, HEPGrid, Life Science, Materials, Metallurgy, Nanotechnologies, Quantum Chemistry and Molecular Physics, and SynchroGrid. The book describes the experience and scientific results achieved by the project partners. Chapters 1 to 8 provide a general overview of research and development activities in the framework of the project with emphasis on services for different scientific areas and an update on the status of the PL-Grid infrastructure, describing new developments in security and middleware. Chapters 9 to 13 discuss new environments and services which may be applied by all scientific communities. Chapters 14 to 36 present how the PLGrid Plus environments, tools and services are used in advanced domain specific computer simulations; these chapters present computational models, new algorithms, and ways in which they are implemented. The book also provides a glossary of terms and concepts. This book may serve as a resource for researchers, developers and system administrators working on efficient exploitation of available e-infrastructures, promoting collaboration and exchange of ideas in the process of constructing a common European e-infrastructure.
The goal of the project is to provide the polish scientific community with an IT platform based on grid computer clusters, enabling e-science research in various fields. The created infrastructure is both compatible and interoperable with existing european and worldwide grid frameworks. The system ensures scalability and enables the integration of additional local clusters, belonging to universities, research institutions and technology platforms. This state-of-the-art survey describes the experience and the scientific results obtained by project partners as well as the outcome of research and development activities carried out within the Polish Infrastructure for Information Science Support in the European Research Space PL-Grid (PL-Grid 2011), held in December 2011 in Krakow, Poland. The 26 papers are organized in topical sections on: eclipse parallel tools platform integrated with QosCosGrid, the migrating desktop, science gateways based on the vine toolkit, the gridspace experiment platform, and the InSilico-Lab environment.

The International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS 2004) held in Krak ow, Poland, June 6-9, 2004, was a follow-up to the highly successful ICCS 2003 held at two locations, in Melbourne, Australia and St. Petersburg, Russia; ICCS 2002 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and ICCS 2001 in San Francisco, USA. As computational science is still evolving in its quest for subjects of inves- gation and e?cient methods, ICCS 2004 was devised as a forum for scientists from mathematics and computer science, as the basic computing disciplines and application areas, interested in advanced computational methods for physics, chemistry, life sciences, engineering, arts and humanities, as well as computer system vendors and software developers. The main objective of this conference was to discuss problems and solutions in all areas, to identify new issues, to shape future directions of research, and to help users apply various advanced computational techniques. The event harvested recent developments in com- tationalgridsandnextgenerationcomputingsystems, tools, advancednumerical methods, data-driven systems, and novel application ?elds, such as complex - stems, ?nance, econo-physics and population evolution."

The idea of organizing this event was born within the CrossGrid com- nity. CrossGrid is developing its middleware, tools and applications in colla- ration with DataGrid and GridLab and is open to collaboration with other Grid projects.USC, UDCandCESGAenthusiasticallysupportedtheconferenceidea. We consider the Across Grids Conference to be an important contribution to the objectives of the GridStart project. The aim of this 1st European Across Grids Conference was to forge an - nual forum in which researchers linked to European projects could present their research results in the ?eld of Grid computing. This conference does not - tend to replace the Global Grid Forum. However, we do ?nd that research being conducted within European projects deserves a special meeting in which all - searchers participating in the Grid development challenge can exchange ideas, experiencesand, chie?y, results.Wewouldlikethee?ortoforganizingthisforum to ?nd continuity in the following years in other European cities. Our ?rst interest was to bring together as many European Grid projects as possible. We believe we have been successful in attaining this aim. This volume contains the proceedings of the international HPCN Europe 2000 event which was held in the Science and Technology Centre Watergraafsmeer, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, May 8-10, 2000. HPCN (High Performance Computing and Networking)Europeeventwas organized for the r st time in 1993 in Amsterdam as the result of several i- tiatives in Europe, the United States of America, and Japan. Succeeding HPCN events were held in Munich (1994), Milan (1995), Brussels (1996), and Vienna (1997), returning to Amsterdam in 1998 to stay. The HPCN event keeps growing and advancing every year, and this year the event consisted of the scientic conference, focused workshops, and several associated events. Theconference consisted ofparalleltrackspresenting 52selected papers, andone track presenting 25 posters. The areas covered in the conference include: Ind- trial and General End-User Applications of HPCN, Computational and C- puter Sciences, and this year the scope of the conference was further expanded by an additional area to emphasize the information management aspects, and the importance of the web-based cooperative application infrastructures.
