Launching Global News Channel in 2005 was Mitch and Amanda McGill's first return to normalcy since Matthew's death in 2002. Its avant-garde venue provided the media podium they envisioned for a cable network.Persevering Anne McGill's unrelenting comments was easy compared to Amanda not understanding the change in her husband. Mitch had become unpredictable, irrational and not the man she married. She was astounded when he informed her he did not want to remain at GNC's helm five years after its inception, choosing again to travel to the world's hot spots "to get the story." Singled out by print media to challenge President Barack Obama in 2012, Mitch chose to make his own decision. Meanwhile, Amanda's Micah Foundation flourished. Its efforts in New Orleans, Haiti, Tuscaloosa and Joplin as well as over a thousand programs receiving grants, changed countless people's lives. Her efforts would also have a profound impact on childhood nutrition. However, no one could have anticipated the confluence of events directly impacting them by a homegrown terrorist seeking revenge. And then terror reared it heinous head again just four months later.Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin was Amanda's remedy for healing their family. To her it was and had always been "God's Country." Was she being fair to Mitch with her decision to take their children there? That remained to be seen when all was said and done.
More Than a Game begs the question: can the NFL withstand another scandal? With Super Bowl XLIX to be played February 1, 2015, two NFL teams appear predestined to make the journey to Glendale, Arizona. The Atlantic City Rollers (AFC) and the Omaha Stampeders (NFC) are fictitious teams yet, in actuality, current teams in the author's mind. With his job in jeopardy, Rollers' Defensive Coordinator, Jamie Longoria, believes he can survive the post-season termination by learning the plays of Mike Jacobs, Head Coach of the Omaha Stampeders. Mike, perhaps the best NFL head coach in the league, is nobody's fool, at least until Longoria's corruptive plans trickle down to Sam Sheldon and Andrew Baxter, Rollers' enthusiasts. While "Spygate" and "Bountygate" will always be recalled as NFL scandals, Jenna Huddy, a product of foster homes until emancipated at eighteen, is sent to Omaha where she unknowingly perpetrates the next disgrace known as "GotPlaysgate." More Than a Game takes place from November, 2014 through Super Bowl Sunday 2015. Omaha, Atlantic City and Two Harbors, Minnesota form the background settings for this novel.
Amanda O'Reilly is filled with grace, God's life. A financial marvel and humanitarian at twenty-eight, she is a woman of quintessential substance. Not prepared for how abruptly her life would change, she marries gregarious, seasoned Mitch McGill, the nation's foremost journalist. Nothing could have equipped her for the District's dog-eat-dog climate when she is barraged by insults from shock jock, Ozzie Maxwell, scandalized by journalist, Spencer Griffin, and second-guessed by gossip mongers. What she could not have predicted, however, was the spiteful assault perpetuated by her imperious mother-in-law, Anne McGill. Sustaining Amanda and Mitch are their unanimity, children, evolution of the Micah Foundation, shared love of music and theater and the sanctuary they find in their homes in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and Bar Harbor, Maine. Interwoven into this fictional novel are the political turbulence from the mid-90's to the 2000 election, abject poverty belying humanity and, conversely, the annual family Christmas gift to sumptuous locations analogous to watching the Travel Channel. Grace Flowing Freely is the first novel in a trilogy steeped in unconditional love, uncommon generosity of spirit, jealousy and ultimately, tragedy. The saga continues in Ever This Day Be at My Side.
Amanda McGill's accident and recovery cannot touch the personal grief she and Mitch must endure in EVER THIS DAY BE AT MY SIDE. Not even the allegations assaulting their reputations can equate to what is most important to them, their family. The sequel begins where GRACE FLOWING FREELY ended, in the Fall of 2000. George W. Bush becomes president in a tumultuous election questioning his authenticity as the prevailing candidate; the nation is unaware it is on the precipice of the greatest act of terrorism within its borders. To the provocation of Spencer Griffin and Ozzie Maxwell who collude for his demise, Get-Getter Mitch McGill is elevated to new heights at USBC while Amanda continues her philanthropic endeavors with the Micah Foundation. Unaccustomed to the District's deceitful climate and terrifying perils, she, to Mitch's chagrin, becomes more drawn than ever to her beloved Chippewa Falls. Neither could have predicted, however, that the greatest sorrow would visit their family.
