By studying how different societies understand categories such as time and causality, the Durkheimians decentered Western epistemology. With contributions from philosophy, sociology, anthropology, media studies, and sinology, this volume illustrates the interdisciplinarity and intellectual rigor of the "category project" which did not only stir controversies among contemporary scholars but paved the way for other theories exploring how the thoughts of individuals are prefigured by society and vice versa.

Dargestellt werden die Ergebnisse eines zweijahrigen Forschungsvorhabens, das vom BMBF gefordert wurde. An dem Verbundvorhaben waren namhafte Wissenschaftler von verschiedenen Hochschulen und bekannte Unternehmen (Aventis, Otto, M+W Zander) beteiligt."

Der konkrete Bedarf an spezieller Software zur Unterstutzung der Okobilanzerstellung war der Ausgangspunkt fur die Entwicklung einer Methodik zur Modellierung von Stoff- und Energiestromsystemen und der darauf basierenden Software 'Umberto'. The globalization and deregulation of capital markets, the end of capital and exchange controls, new challenges on the information technology sector, more liquid securities markets, new trends with regard to investment decisions especially for institutional investors represent only some of these factors. The competition around investment capital moves more to the foreground. As a consequence of this fact is mentioned that the orientation is specified at the shareholders. Thus a focusing is carried out on the profit of the shareholders. With other words a culture of shareholder value has developed. A special meaning befits the corporate value with regard to the shareholder value. The corporate value represents the result of the investments of the shareholders. Therefore the effort to increase the corporate value is mirrored by the claims of the shareholders. In the recent years the term Value Based Management as synonymous has become noted for a whole series of approaches to increase the corporate value. Value Based Management focuses the view on the tools, which are necessary to produce performance and value. It means that everything, every process and every part of a company has to be oriented in creating value. This diploma thesis therefore will analyze how corporate value can be created, which activities are necessary and how it can be measured. Ein Jubilaum ist immer eine zweischneidige Sache. Auf der einen Seite dient es dazu inne zuhalten, sich zu besinnen, die Frage zu stellen, woher man kommt, wohin man geht. Auf der anderen Seite fiihrt dies auch schnell zu einer Verklarong der Vergangenheit. Es war deshalb wichtig, die Basis dieses Jubilaums in der Gegenwart zu suchen, in jenen Inhalten, die die Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter des Institutes tagtaglich beschaftigen. Am 18. September 1998 fand in Heidelberg ein Festkolloquium statt, in dem einerseits auf die Vergangenheit des Institutes und auf das Verhaltnis von Umweltforschung und Politik in der heutigen Zeit eingegangen wurde. Andererseits wurde mit 8 Vortragen in einer Art Kaleidoskop die aktuelle Arbeit des Institutes vorgestellt. Trotzdem war dies nur ein kleiner Ausschnitt der Themen, die derzeit am ifeu bearbeitet werden. Somit entstand der Wunsch, einiges zumindest schriftIich zu erganzen. Damit ergab sich ein Uberblick uber die Institutsarbeit, der nicht nur eine Selbstdarstellung oder ein Rechenschaftsbericht ist. Es wurden fUr dieses Buch Beitrage geschrieben, die die Autoren schon immer einmal zu Papier bringen wollten, wozu aber der Anlass, besonders jedoch die Zeit fehlte. Diese Beitrage handeln von interessanten und aktuellen Fragestellun gen der Umweltpolitik oder der Forschungsarbeit, sodass wir uns dazu entschlossen haben, sie als Buch zu veroffentlichen. Die Zeit war auch fUr dieses Buch knapp bemessen, sodass wieder nur eine Auswahl beriicksichtigt werden konnte."

The book presents about 100 current examples of how energy and materials can be saved in manufacturing companies. They serve to show which measures can be used in modern companies to exploit the potential for resource efficiency. The book is aimed at practitioners in companies and consulting firms, but is also suitable for the university sector as a practical introduction to the topic of resource efficiency. The materials used account for almost 43 percent of the costs of an average industrial company in Germany. Personnel costs, on the other hand, are only 22 percent, while energy costs are as low as 2 percent. If a company wants to save costs, above all it must consider the use of materials and produce in a resource-efficient manner. This simultaneously relieves the environment and reduces dependence on scarce raw materials. The implementation of resource efficiency is not easy. There are indeed numerous starting points in production, often in process innovations or in product development. However, only a few companies publish their measures and savings potentials. In practice, this means that there are often no learning examples in practice, but some of them are explicitly listed in this work. As you can see, resource efficiency in production and products can also be seen as a success factor for many companies. In the project 100 Pioneers in Efficient Resource Management, committed companies from Baden-Wuerttemberg are showing their solutions. The project was carried out by a competent team from the Pforzheim University and the State Agency for Environmental Technology. Leading trade associations in Baden-Wurttemberg have supported it.
