The central aim of the collection is to identify key issues and questions and subject them to interrogation from different methodological perspectives using internationally acclaimed experts in the field. A key focus in the collection is on British and North American perspectives. Recent trends and debates about the organisation and conduct of intelligence provide key themes for exploration. Underpinning several contributions is the recognition that intelligence faces a conflict of ideas as much as practices and threats. This book was published as a special issue of Intelligence and National Security.

This book outlines a number of different perspectives on the relationship between science, technology, and innovation in emerging economies. In it, the authors explore the aforementioned relationship as a pillar of economic development, driving growth in emerging economies. Employing a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, the authors work to determine the main related factors and outcomes of the relationship between science, technology, and innovation, ultimately seeking to guide public policies to enhance the welfare of the population of an emerging economy.
The Instituto Internacional de Estudios Avanzados, founded by decree of the President of the Republic of Venezuela, Dr. Luis Herrera Campins, on November 15, 1979 and constituted on July 8, 1980, sponsors, within the Educational Program for the Third World Coun- tries, a series of courses on Scientific Basis for Agricultural Pro- ductivity, the first of which "BIOLOGICAL NITROGEN FIXATION AND ITS ECOLOGICAL BASIS," was held in Caracas on January 18-29, 1982. We are pleased to present, in this volume, the proceedings of this course. It is a pleasure to thank each and everyone of the persons who collaborated in the realization of this event, espe- cially: Dr. Martin Alexander (Cornell University, U.S.A.); Dr. Luis Bascones (FUSAGRI, Venzuela) and Dr. Ivan Casas (Universirlad del Zulia, Venezuela), who assisted me during the preparation and exe- cution of this activity; the teaching staff, whose presentations are the chapters of this volume; and the participants from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Ghans, Guatemala, India, In- donesia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Syria, and Venezuela who shared this course with us. New methods for solving classical problems in the theory of nonlinear operator equations (solvability, multiple solutions, bifurcations, nonlinear resonance, potential methods, etc) are introduced and discussed. The general abstract theorems are illustrated by various applications to differential equations and boundary value problems. In particular, the problem on forced periodic oscillations is considered for equations arising in control theory.

This Brief presents a complete study of the generalized theory of Foerster-type energy transfer in nanostructures with mixed dimensionality. Here the aim is to obtain a generalized theory of FRET including a comprehensive set of analytical equations for all combinations and configurations of nanostructures and deriving generic expressions for the dimensionality involved. In this brief, the modification of FRET mechanism with respect to the nanostructure serving as the donor vs. the acceptor will be included, focusing on the rate's distance dependency and the role of the effective dielectric function in FRET, which will be a unique, useful source for those who study and model FRET.
This Brief will focus on the functional uses and applications of FRET, starting with the derivation of FRET in the assemblies of nanostructures and subsequently giving application cases for biologists, physicists, chemists, material scientists, engineers, and those in many other fields whoever would like to FRET as a tool. The goal of this part is therefore to show both specialist and non-specialist how to use and analyze FRET in a wide range of applications.
