The notion of a person--or even an object--having a "double" has
been explored in the visual arts for ages, and in myriad ways:
portraying the body and its soul, a woman gazing at her reflection
in a pool, or a man overwhelmed by his own shadow. In this edited
collection focusing on nineteenth- and twentieth-century western
art, scholars analyze doppelgangers, alter egos, mirror images,
double portraits and other pairings, human and otherwise, appearing
in a large variety of artistic media. Artists whose works are
discussed at length include Richard Dadd, Salvador Dali, Egon
Schiele, Frida Kahlo, the creators of Superman, and Nicola
Costantino, among many others.

Without a doubt, Rev. Eddie K. Edwards touched many lives. Some of
those writing tributes in this book have told me how emotional they
became while traveling down memory lane. As his wife, I also was
reduced to tears when I reflected upon how he impacted my life. My
thoughts took me to the Bible when Makeda, The Queen of Sheba, told
Solomon, upon her visit to Jerusalem, that she had heard of his
fame, but after seeing it for herself she knew the half had not
been told. (1 Kings 10:1-13) It is with tremendous love and respect
for Rev. Edwards that I share these tributes with you and, at the
same time, thank God for the opportunity to be the Covenant Partner
of Rev. Eddie K. Edwards for 21 years. To God Be The Glory -

people, including some widows themselves, think of the words:
lonely, poor, dependent, pitiful, a loser. In this 96-page resource
handbook, Minister Edwards will help you change your mind and get
on with your life. Contains testimonies from nine widows who have
done so, 20 tips for helping you make your transition from
widowhood to a new you.
Ordained minister Mary Edwards tells her personal story of struggle
and victory with honesty, compassion, and courage. She speaks of
how she missed her childhood due to abuse and teen pregnancy. She
chronicles a failed first marriage that paved the way for her
successful 21-year marriage to Rev. Eddie Edwards, Founder of Joy
of Jesus Ministries-and the powerful ministry partnership that
helped revitalize communities and bring spiritual deliverance. She
goes on to sensitively describe his passing and the inspiration
that led her to continue and expand her ministry to families,
women, writers, and now specifically to widows. Most importantly,
Mary explains, using the example of her own family, the devastating
effect of generational curses-and encourages all who labor under
them with hope that they can stop the damaging cycle and begin a
tradition of generational blessing.
The gravitational pull of the earth and the challenge to resist it
have long inspired artists. Like the Greek vases depicting
Sisyphus's endless quest to push his boulder up a hill and the
Whirlwind Lovers in Dante's Inferno, images that portray the
defiance of gravity or submission to it permeate the artistic
world. This collection explores the ways artists from antiquity to
today use gravity and/or levity symbolically, metaphorically, and
expressively. The 26 essays examine these opposing forces through
analysis of such dualities as ascent and descent, weight and
weightlessness, hope and despair, or life and death, and draw
distinct lines between the works of art and texts of such writers
and thinkers as Homer, Aristotle, Newton, Marx and Einstein.
Together, they demonstrate that as our ideas about this essential
force or space-time concept change, so too, do artists create new
ways to represent visually the phenomena of gravity.
