At the heart of Fishtown is the final resting place of generations
of Kensington and Fishtown residents. Founded prior to 1748, Palmer
Cemetery is one of the oldest in Philadelphia. Interred here, and
in Hanover Street and West Street Burial Grounds are soldiers from
every war fought by colonists and then Americans, from the French
and Indian War until Desert Storm. The fishing families that built
the neighborhood, victims of the Yellow Fever epidemic of 1793 and
the ancestors of the Shibe family are also buried in these plots.
Kenneth W. Milano walks the cemetery paths and reveals the secrets
the stones keep with Palmer Cemetery and the Historic Burial
Grounds of Kensington and Fishtown.
Power systems are becoming increasingly complex as well as
flexible, able to integrate distributed renewable generation, EV,
and additional loads. This expanded and updated second edition
covers the technologies needed to operate modern power grids.
Initial chapters cover power system modelling, telegrapher
equations, power flow analysis, discrete Fourier transformation and
stochastic differential equations. Ensuing chapters deal with power
system operation and control, power flow, real-time control and
state estimation techniques for distribution systems as well as
shipboard systems. The final chapters describe stability analysis
of power systems and cover voltage stability, transient stability,
time delays, and limit cycles. New content for the second edition
includes four new chapters on recent modelling, control and
stability analysis of power electronic converters and electric
vehicles. This new edition is an essential guide to technologies
for operating modern flexible power systems for PhD students,
early-career researchers and practitioners in the field.
Converter-Based Dynamics and Control of Modern Power Systems
addresses the ongoing changes and challenges in rotating masses of
synchronous generators, which are transforming dynamics of the
electrical system. These changes make it more important to consider
and understand the role of power electronic systems and their
characteristics in shaping the subtleties of the grid and this book
fills that knowledge gap. Balancing theory, discussion, diagrams,
mathematics, and data, this reference provides the information
needed to acquire a thorough overview of resilience issues and
frequency definition and estimation in modern power systems. This
book offers an overview of classical power system dynamics and
identifies ways of establishing future challenges and how they can
be considered at a global level to overcome potential problems. The
book is designed to prepare future engineers for operating a system
that will be driven by electronics and less by electromechanical
systems.

DANA MILANO
This edited volume presents an overview of cutting-edge research
areas within digital ethics as defined by the Digital Ethics Lab of
the University of Oxford. It identifies new challenges and
opportunities of influence in setting the research agenda in the
field. The yearbook presents research on the following topics:
conceptual metaphor theory, cybersecurity governance, cyber
conflicts, anthropomorphism in AI, digital technologies for mental
healthcare, data ethics in the asylum process, AI's legitimacy and
democratic deficit, digital afterlife industry, automatic prayer
bots, foresight analysis and the future of AI. This volume appeals
to students, researchers and professionals.
Deixis as a field of research has generated increased interest in
recent years. It is crucial for a number of different
subdisciplines: pragmatics, semantics, cognitive and contrastive
linguistics, to name just a few. The subject is of particular
interest to experts and students, philosophers, teachers,
philologists, and psychologists interested in the study of their
language or in comparing linguistic structures. The different
deictic structures - not only the items themselves, but also the
oppositions between them - reflect the fact that neither the
notions of space, time, person nor our use of them are identical
cross-culturally. This diversity is not restricted to the
difference between languages, but also appears among related
dialects and language varieties. This volume will provide an
overview of the field, focusing on Romance languages, but also
reaching beyond this perspective. Chapters on diachronic
developments (language change), comparisons with other
(non-)European languages, and on interfaces with neighboring fields
of interest are also included. The editors and authors hope that
readers, regardless of their familiarity with Romance languages,
will gain new insights into deixis in general, and into the
similarities and differences among deictic structures used in the
languages of the world.
