This book covers the various aspects of MXenes nanomaterials and
its composites from the fabrication to the potential applications
in energy devices, sensors, and environmental remediation. MXenes
are two-dimensional (2D) transition metal carbides and nitrides
which contains novel combination of properties including great
conductivity and mechanical, thermal features of transition metal
carbide and nitrides. In addition, MXenes nanomaterials possess
high surface area, novel morphology, and layered structure and the
functionalized of its surfaces gives it excellent hydrophilic
characteristics and high absorption of electromagnetic radiations
making them versatile materials for various applications. The
beginning part of the book gives an in-depth literature covering
the fundamental principles, fabrication, self-assembling strategies
of nano-engineered MXenes, and their composites materials. The
later chapters describe the chemical functionalization ofÂ
MXenes nanomaterials for diversified applications such as
electromagnetic shielding, energy storage devices (super
capacitors, lithium ion batteries, CO2 capture, optical switching,
transistors), photo catalysis, drug delivery, implants, tissue
engineering, water purification, and sensing applications. It
demonstrates that MXene-based advanced architectures promote
continuous innovations and provide driving force in different
fields particularly in environmental remediation and energy storage
devices. This book is essential reading for all chemists,
biologists, physicists, and environmental scientists working in the
field of nanotechnology, energy, and environmental chemistry. It
helps academics and professionals to polish their knowledge with
the latest described data. It also helps professionals in
developing innovative technologies by keeping in mind the
applications of functionalized nanostructured MXenes.
Statistical distributions are important tools to model the
characteristics of data sets such as right or left skewness,
bi-modality or multi-modality observed in different applied
sciences such as engineering, medicine, and finance, among others.
The well-known distributions such as normal, Weibull, gamma,
Lindley are extensively used because of their simple forms and
identifiability properties. However, mostly in the last decade or
so, researchers have focused on the more complex and flexible
distributions, referred to as Generalized or simply G families of
distributions to increase the modeling ability of these
distributions by adding one or more shape parameters. The main aim
of this edited book is to present new development currently made by
various researchers in the field of G families of contributions
distributions. The book will help future and current researchers in
the field of this research. Some of the objectives are listed
below: Develop new univariate continuous and discrete G families of
probability distributions. Develop new bivariate continuous and
discrete G families of probability distributions. Derive useful
mathematical properties such as, ordinary and incomplete moments,
moments generating functions, residual life and reversed residual
life functions, order statistics, quantile spread ordering and
entropies, among others and some bivariate and multivariate
extensions of the new and existing models using a simple type
copula such as: Farlie Gumbel Morgenstern copula. Modified Farlie
Gumbel Morgenstern copula. Clayton copula. Renyi entropy copula.
Ali-Mikhail-Haq copula. haracterize the models via several
techniques such as: the conditional expectation. the truncated
moment. the hazard functions. Mills ratio. certain functions of the
random variable. the 1st order statistic. the conditional
expectation of the record values. Assess the performance of the
used estimation methods via Monte-Carlo simulation studies. Show
the wide importance and the flexibility of the new models against
the competitive models. Construct some new regression models based
on the new proposed G families and use in statistical prediction.
Application of many new useful goodness-of-fit tests for right
censored validation such as the Nikulin-Rao-Robson goodness-of-fit
test, modified Nikulin-Rao-Robson goodness-of-fit test,
Bagdonavicius-Nikulin goodness-of-fit test and modified
Bagdonavicius-Nikulin goodness-of-fit test to the new families.
Comparative Postcolonialism in the Works of V.S. Naipaul and Toni
Morrison: Fragmented Identities begins with an overview of its
theoretical framework, highlighting the intersectional relationship
between postcolonial literature and comparative literature. Tracing
selected novels by Naipaul and Morrison, the book takes, as a
starting point, Fanon's three-phase journey of the decolonizing
process. In the first phase of mimicry, Naipaul's and Morrison's
earlier novels represent the assimilation of indigenous people into
dominant hegemonic cultures. The second phase is envisioned as the
re-narration or re-interpretation of the past and old legends of
indigenous culture. Morrison succeeds in asserting that her
ancestors' past is the only way to celebrate a cultural identity,
but Naipaul tends to criticize and neglect his past and his
original, indigenous culture. The third phase marks the emergence
of a revolutionary literature, in which Naipaul and Morrison guide
their people to hybridity as a new way of becoming and resisting
the hegemonic dichotomies in dominant societies.
Climate change is likely to continue to have severe impacts,
including sea level rise. At the same time, population increase and
development imperatives create additional pressure on available
water resources. These changes are problematic for the
Mediterranean coastal areas and especially the Nile Delta coast.
Particular focus of this study is on salinization of groundwater
resources in the Nile Delta Aquifer (NDA) due to saltwater
intrusion. To assess current conditions and develop future
adaptation strategies for the NDA, a 3D model simulating regional
variable-density groundwater flow and coupled salt transport was
constructed based on available data set, using the SEAWAT code. A
method for identification of the most representative model has been
developed, based on testing different simulation periods during
which the NDA has 'evolved' from completely fresh groundwater
conditions to conditions representative for the year 2010.This
model was then applied to analyze possible future NDA conditions
under several predefined scenarios of sea level rise and
groundwater extraction. This analysis indicated that the impacts
from further extractions of groundwater on availability of fresh
groundwater in the aquifer are more significant compared to those
from sea level rise. Furthermore, three different adaptation
measures and their impacts in the Sharkeya Nile Delta governorate
were tested. It was shown that that changing crop types and
irrigation practices towards water saving options seem to be more
promising than artificial recharge with injection wells or
extraction and usage of brackish groundwater after desalination.
The developed model is useful for further Water-Food Nexus studies.

With a sharp focus on environmental pollution and its impact on
life and nature, scientists and engineers have studied the water
treatment effect of natural wetlands for many years, resulting in
the development of constructed wetlands (CWs) for treating
wastewater. This informative new book provides current information
and guidance on the construction, performance, operation, and
maintenance of subsurface flow constructed wetlands of domestic and
municipal wastewater. The focus of the volume is to evaluate the
performance of horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands in
treating domestic wastewater to establish the limit that can be
safely discharged to agricultural drains. Two-step procedures were
used for the preparation of this book. Using modeling and
statistical analyses of treated water samples showed a significant
difference between different media for the treatment of most
pollutants. The authors went on to design artificial neural network
models (ANNs) using Matlab software to simulate some of the
experimental data and to anticipate the parameters of output
concentration. The wetland systems have the ability to deal with
various pollutants with different concentrations and to decrease
the treated water to the standard limits. This volume presents the
main role of emergent plants for treatment performance in the
constructed wetlands and will be a very important resource for
engineers in this field as well as for both undergraduate and
graduate students.
