"Parables from Nature" by Margaret Scott Gatty utilizes the
Charlotte Mason method of instruction, which is preferred by many
homeschooling families. "Parables from Nature" weaves interesting
facts from nature and science into the stories. The collection
includes all 29 stories from the first, second, third, and fourth
series, originally published in separate volumes. The stories in
"Parables from Nature" are challenging, rich and complex, as they
seek to uncover God's craftsmanship in the natural world, how the
seen teaches us about the unseen. This is a great book to glean
ideas from and stretch the intellect, imagination and
understanding. This is newly laid out with clear print and a
readable font (not like the hard-to-read facsimile editions
provided by some other publishers).

"Remember," said Ambrosia, from behind, "it is a choice with poor
mortals between heavy foot-walking, and the lumbering vehicles you
talk of. Perhaps when their legs ache terribly, the carriages are
not such bad things. We can hardly judge dispassionately in such a
matter, we who can float and fly " and the delicate Ambrosia,
springing up, floated softly round the bay, and then returned
smiling to her companions. "It made me almost ill to think of
aching legs," observed she, "how I do pity the mortal race "

But neither did Aunt Judy, after she had given it one taste; so she
put the cup down, thanking No. 8 very much, but pulling such a
funny face, that it set the laugh going once more; in the middle of
which No. 4 dropped an additional lump of sugar into the rejected
buff- coloured mixture, a proceeding which evidently gave No. 8 a
new relish for the beverage.

at www 1stWorldLibrary.ORG - - There is not a more charming sight
in the domestic world, than that of an elder girl in a large
family, amusing what are called the little ones. How could mamma
have ventured upon that cosy nap in the arm-chair by the fire, if
she had been harassed by wondering what the children were about?
Whereas, as it was, she had overheard No. 8 begging the one they
all called 'Aunt Judy, to come and tell them a story, and she had
beheld Aunt Judy's nod of consent; whereupon she had shut her eyes,
and composed herself to sleep quite complacently, under the
pleasant conviction that all things were sure to be in a state of
peace and security, so long as the children were listening to one
of those curious stories of Aunt Judy's, in which, with so much
drollery and amusement, there was sure to be mixed up some odd
scraps of information, or bits of good advice.
