Muhammad Munir
R3,731 Discovery Miles 37 310 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book offers a timely and comprehensive review of essential research on Peste des Petits Ruminants Virus (PPRV), ranging from its historical distribution, molecular epidemiology, genome structure, viral proteins, immunity, viral pathogenesis, clinical and molecular diagnosis to advances in vaccine developments and future challenges. PPRV, a Rinderpest-like virus, is the causative agent of one of the most rapidly emerging viral diseases among domestic small ruminants, and the host spectrum has now been expanded to wild small ruminants and camels. With the global eradication of the first livestock disease, Rinderpest, attention is now turning to repeating the procedure for PPR. Each of the book's 13 chapters is dedicated to a specific topic, providing up-to-date literature and discussions by renowned scientists who have made seminal contributions in their respective fields of expertise. Special emphasis has been placed on the analysis of different global efforts to eradicate PPR. This book offers a valuable reference source for virologists, field veterinarians, infection and molecular biologists, immunologists, scientists in related fields and veterinary school libraries.

Peste de Petits Ruminants (PPR) is a highly contagious viral disease of domestic and wild small ruminants that can significantly affect economies. The authors are experts in the field and provide an up-to-date and comprehensive review covering all aspects of the disease. The book is divided into seven chapters highlighting genome organization, virus replication and the determinants of virulence, pathophysiology and clinical disease, immunology and immunopathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnostic assays and vaccines, and the challenges concerning global eradication. It is an invaluable reference work, presenting the latest information for virologists, microbiologists, immunologists, veterinarians, and scientists working in PPR research.

Mononegaviruses of Veterinary Importance, Volume 2 - Molecular Epidemiology and Control (Hardcover): Muhammad Munir Mononegaviruses of Veterinary Importance, Volume 2 - Molecular Epidemiology and Control (Hardcover)
Muhammad Munir; Contributions by Paula Kinnunen, Jonas Wensman, Bronwyn A. Clayton, Ina Smith, …
R4,483 Discovery Miles 44 830 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The Mononegavirales is an order of viruses affecting large, small and marine animals and is responsible for diseases including Rinderpest, Rabies and Ebola. This book discusses the epidemiology and control of Mononegaviruses that pose a significant threat to animals in terms of severity and epidemiological risk. The book also addresses viruses with zoonotic potential, and many that can be used as models in the study of infectious disease. With its comprehensive coverage, each chapter is dedicated to a different disease and has been authored by renowned scientists who have made seminal contributions to the field. This prestige reference work is arranged over two volumes: volume 1 pathobiology and molecular diagnosis, and volume 2 molecular epidemiology and control. This broad ranging text covers mononegaviral diseases of livestock, horses, dogs and cats as well as rodents, primates, fish and marine mammals, and will be a valuable reference source for virologists, field veterinarians, infection and molecular biologists as well as immunologists and animal scientists.

Mononegavirales is a family of viruses affecting large, small and marine animals. Discussing the pathology and laboratory diagnosis of important viruses, this book covers those that cause a significant threat to animals in terms of their severity and epidemiological risk, as well as those which are used as models in the study of infectious disease. Also including viruses with zoonotic potential, this book reviews the literature for Rhinderpest, Rabies, Ebola and more.

Diagnosis of Peste des Petits Ruminants under limited resource setting (Paperback): Muhammad Munir Diagnosis of Peste des Petits Ruminants under limited resource setting (Paperback)
Muhammad Munir
R1,296 Discovery Miles 12 960 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

PPR is a contagious disease of small ruminants and causes enormous economical losses due to its acuteness and misdiagnoses. The diagnostic tools are not readily available in all diagnostic laboratories especially in developing nations, where disease is endemic. Therefore, it is need to establish reliable, sensitive and affordable diagnostic tools, which will be promptly accessible at low cost, independent of laboratory type. Until this accomplishment, the dire need of time is to evaluate the different serological tests and to perform a parallel comparison with the aim to adapt these tests as a diagnostic method, which helps to diagnose and control PPR in developing nations. This reasons the primary objective of this book. This book would provide information about different assays by perform a parallel comparison to that of reference standards. This validation would guide the local authorities to choose the best-suited assay for the diagnosis of PPRV in the region. The book begins with a general introduction of the PPR virus and disease, handling practical issues, and step-by-step guide for each procedure. As a rational, a case study for each technique is presented.

Wheat Salt Tolerance (Paperback): Munir Ahmad, Armghan Shahzad, Muhammad Munir Wheat Salt Tolerance (Paperback)
Munir Ahmad, Armghan Shahzad, Muhammad Munir
R2,068 Discovery Miles 20 680 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book was an effort for wheat improvement under salinity stress. One hundred and eighty seven wheat genotypes were evaluated at germination, vegetative and maturity stage under 200, 250 and 300 mM NaCl stress.Various morphological and molecular markers were utilized to screen salt tolerant cultivars. Vegetative stage was found to be most salinity sensitive stage. Therefore, genotypes should be evaluated at this stage by using molecular, physiological, morphological and biochemical approaches. More than 10 SSR markers were found to be linked with salinity tolerance.Heritability estimates and gene action studies revealed that potential for improving salinity tolerance in wheat does exist.

Comparative serodiagnosis and seroprevalence of PPR disease (Paperback): Muhammad Munir Comparative serodiagnosis and seroprevalence of PPR disease (Paperback)
Muhammad Munir
R1,280 Discovery Miles 12 800 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book gives comprehensive review of the literature regarding PPRV and provides fundamental diagnostic tools that can be employed for the efficient diagnosis and control of PPRV. In this regard, two diagnostic tools, agar gel immunodiffusion test and precipitinogen inhibition test, were compared and evaluated in parallel to immunocapture ELISA. All these techniques were comprehensively discussed and practical aspects specially emphasized. Furthermore, the governmental livestock farms were reported to be seropositive for PPRV and are analyzed in detail. This highlights the importance of PPRV and it is the need of the time to attract the attention of controlling authorities to this devastating disease. In short, this book will be helpful to all the scientists involved in the diagnostic application of serological tests for PPRV.
