Single and Multi-Objective Evolutionary Computation (MOEA), Genetic Algorithms (GAs), Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), Fuzzy Controllers (FCs), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Ant colony Optimization (ACO) are becoming omnipresent in almost every intelligent system design. Unfortunately, the application of the majority of these techniques is complex and so requires a huge computational effort to yield useful and practical results. Therefore, dedicated hardware for evolutionary, neural and fuzzy computation is a key issue for designers. With the spread of reconfigurable hardware such as FPGAs, digital as well as analog hardware implementations of such computation become cost-effective.The idea behind this book is to offer a variety of hardware designs for soft computing techniques that can be embedded in any final product. Also, to introduce the successful application of soft computing technique to solve many hard problems encountered during the design of embedded hardware designs. Reconfigurable embedded designs for GAs, ANNs, FCs and PSO are presented and evaluated. Also, the application of quantum-based evolutionary computation and multi-objective evolutionary computation as well as ACO are applied to solve hard problems related to circuit synthesis, IP assignment, mapping and routing of applications on Network-On-Chip infrastructures."

Robotics and AI for Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure in Smart Cities (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022): Nadia Nedjah, Ahmed A.... Robotics and AI for Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure in Smart Cities (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022)
Nadia Nedjah, Ahmed A. Abd El-Latif, Brij B. Gupta, Luiza M. Mourelle
R4,260 Discovery Miles 42 600 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book bridges principles and real-world applications, while also providing thorough theory and technology for the development of artificial intelligence and robots. Now that both technologies have made significant strides, there is increased interest in combining the two domains in order to create a new integrated AI and robotics trend. In order to achieve wiser urbanization and more sustainable development, AI in smart cities will play a significant part in equipping the cities with advanced features that will allow residents to safely move about, stroll, shop, and enjoy a more comfortable way of life. If you are a student, researcher, engineer, or professional working in this field, or if you are just curious in the newest advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence for cybersecurity, this book is for you!

Nadia Nedjah, Luiza Mourelle
R2,782 Discovery Miles 27 820 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book is concerned with studying the co-design methodology in general, and how to determine the more suitable interface mechanism in a co-design system in particular. This is based on the characteristics of the application and those of the target architecture of the system. Guidelines are provided to support the designer's choice of the interface mechanism. The content of this book is divided into eight chapters presenting co-design as a methodology for the integrated design of systems implemented using both hardware and software components. This includes high-level synthesis and the new technologies available for its implementation. The physical co-design system is then presented.

Nadia Nedjah, Heitor Silverio Lopes, Luiza de Macedo Mourelle
R1,383 Discovery Miles 13 830 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Real-world engineering problems often require concurrent optimization of several design objectives, which are conflicting in cases. This type of optimization is generally called multi-objective or multi-criterion optimization. The area of research that applies evolutionary methodologies to multi-objective optimization is of special and growing interest. It brings a viable computational solution to many real-world problems. Generally, multi-objective engineering problems do not have a straightforward optimal design. These kinds of problems usually inspire several solutions of equal efficiency, which achieve different trade-offs. Decision makers' preferences are normally used to select the most adequate design. Such preferences may be dictated before or after the optimization takes place. They may also be introduced interactively at different levels of the optimization process. Multi-objective optimization methods can be subdivided into classical and evolutionary. The classical methods usually aim at a single solution while the evolutionary methods provide a whole set of so-called Pareto-optimal solutions. Evolutionary Multi-Objective System Design: Theory and Applications provides a representation of the state-of-the-art in evolutionary multi-objective optimization research area and related new trends. It reports many innovative designs yielded by the application of such optimization methods. It also presents the application of multi-objective optimization to the following problems: Embrittlement of stainless steel coated electrodes Learning fuzzy rules from imbalanced datasets Combining multi-objective evolutionary algorithms with collective intelligence Fuzzy gain scheduling control Smart placement of roadside units in vehicular networks Combining multi-objective evolutionary algorithms with quasi-simplex local search Design of robust substitution boxes Protein structure prediction problem Core assignment for efficient network-on-chip-based system design

Reconfigurable and Adaptive Computing - Theory and Applications (Hardcover): Nadia Nedjah, Chao Wang Reconfigurable and Adaptive Computing - Theory and Applications (Hardcover)
Nadia Nedjah, Chao Wang
R5,762 Discovery Miles 57 620 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Reconfigurable computing techniques and adaptive systems are some of the most promising architectures for microprocessors. Reconfigurable and Adaptive Computing: Theory and Applications explores the latest research activities on hardware architecture for reconfigurable and adaptive computing systems. The first section of the book covers reconfigurable systems. The book presents a software and hardware codesign flow for coarse-grained systems-on-chip, a video watermarking algorithm for the H.264 standard, a solution for regular expressions matching systems, and a novel field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based acceleration solution with MapReduce framework on multiple hardware accelerators. The second section discusses network-on-chip, including an implementation of a multiprocessor system-on-chip platform with shared memory access, end-to-end quality-of-service metrics modeling based on a multi-application environment in network-on-chip, and a 3D ant colony routing (3D-ACR) for network-on-chip with three different 3D topologies. The final section addresses the methodology of system codesign. The book introduces a new software-hardware codesign flow for embedded systems that models both processors and intellectual property cores as services. It also proposes an efficient algorithm for dependent task software-hardware codesign with the greedy partitioning and insert scheduling method (GPISM) by task graph.

R2,739 Discovery Miles 27 390 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The design of most modern engineering systems entails the consideration of a good trade-off between the several targets requirements to be satisfied along the system life such as high reliability, low redundancy and low operational costs. These aspects are often in conflict with one another, hence a compromise solution has to be sought. Innovative computing techniques, such as genetic algorithms, swarm intelligence, differential evolution, multi-objective evolutionary optimization, just to name few, are of great help in founding effective and reliable solution for many engineering problems. Each chapter of this book attempts to using an innovative computing technique to elegantly solve a different engineering problem.

Nadia Nedjah, Luiza de Macedo Mourelle, Janusz Kacprzyk
R2,653 Discovery Miles 26 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Data mining consists of attempting to discover novel and useful knowledge from data, trying to find patterns among datasets that can help in intelligent decision making. However, reports of real-world case studies are not generally detailed in the literature, due to the fact that they are usually based on proprietary datasets, making it impossible to publish the results. This kind of situation makes hard to evaluate, in a precise way, the degree of effectiveness of data mining techniques in real-world applications. On the other hand, researchers of this field of expertise usually exploit public-domain datasets.

This volume offers a wide spectrum of research work developed for data mining for real-world application. In the following, we give a brief introduction of the chapters that are included in this book.
