VII PREFACE The contents of this volume is based upon presentations that took place during the international research symposium "Research on Impacts - Hope for Escaping the Negative Effects of an Information Society" in Walberberg on May 25 - 26, 1981. The symposium was organized by the Institute for Organization and Automation at the University of Cologne (BIFOA) within a research project on "Konstruktive Wirkungsforschung" and was sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Research and Technology. Information technology is considered to be the crucial factor for the future development of our society. The expectations differ widely in respect to how this development will look like. Information technology has on the one hand the poten tial of causing substantial negative impacts on individuals and on society but on the other hand the potential of being the key technology for solving pressing problems of mankind. The decisions of today will already determine Which impacts we have to cope with in the future. The challenge for research is therefore to deliver sufficient information to enable the decision makers to make the right decisions. The. conference was designed to provide an opportunity to exchange ideas on aims and issues of research on technological impacts and especially to discuss the chances to meet this research challenge and to achieve satisfying contributions by research for coping with future impacts of information technology."

F. Zusammenfassung ISM ist eine Strukturmodellierungs-Technik, die es einer kleinen Gruppe ermoeglicht, ohne ubertriebenen Aufwand, auf systematische Weise und computergestutzt, mit gewissen Ein- schrankungen bezuglich Objektsystemabbildung und Prozessflexi- bilitat, ein komplexes Problem umfassender zu verstehen und zu handhaben. Es verbleibt jedoch eine Vielzahl interessanter ISM-Forschungsfragestellungen, die die Aufmerksamkeit eines breiten Forscherpotentials auf sich ziehen sollten. Es ist wunschenswert, dass die Verbreitung von theoretischen Beitra- gen und Anwendungserfahrungen den Kreis der Interessenten zur weiteren Entwicklung und Anwendung dieser Technik ver- 1 groessern moege ). 1m Marz 1972 veranstaltete das Betriebswirtschaftliche Institut fUr Organi sation und Automation an der Universitat zu Koln (BIFOA) mit finanzieller Unterstutzung des Bundesministeriums fUr Bildung und Wissenschaft ein Internationales Symposium zum Thema "Modell- und computer-gestutzte Unternehmungsplanung," an dem mehr als 50 Experten aus verschiedenen Landern teilnahmen. Der Teilnehmerkreis setzte sich aus Wissenschaftlern und Praktikern zusammen. Mit dem vorliegenden Band werden eingereichte Paper und Ergebnisse des Symposiums einer breiten Offentlichkeit zuganglich gemacht. Das Symposium war in drei aufeinanderfolgende Sektionen gegliedert, die aus jeweils zwei parallel stattfindenden Workshops bestanden: SEKTION A Grundlagen und Organisation der Unternehmungsplanung Workshop I Planungstheoretische Grundlagen der Unternehmungsplanung Workshop II Organisatorische Gestaltung der Unternehmungsplanung SEKTION B Gegenwartiger Entwicklungsstand modell- und computer gestutzter Unternehmungsplanung Workshop III Erfahrungen mit Modellen fur die Unternehmungsplanung Workshop IV Software fur die Unternehmungsplanung SEKTION C Konzeptionen und weitere Entwicklung der modell- und com puter-gestutzten Unternehmungsplanung Workshop V Konzeptionen fur Modelle der Unternehmungsplanung Workshop VI Organisatorische Implementierung und Schaffung der notwen digen Datenbasis Wiihrend des Symposiums wurde deutlich, daB die theoretische Basis der Planung noch sehr unzureichend ist. Das Wissen uber Planung ist noch ge ring; weite Gebiete der Planung sind bisher unstrukturiert. Daher sind hin sichtlich der Vorgehensweise bei der Entwicklung und Implementierung von Modellen noch eine Vielzahl von Fragen offen. Hervorragende Bedeutung maB man auf dem Symposium z. B. der Frage bei, in welcher Weise Manager am Entwurf von Planungsmodellen und an deren Implementierung beteiligt werden sollten."
