The grandfather of manga and anime, Osamu Tezuka created hundreds
of unforgettable characters during his 40+ year career as an
illustrator and animator. His influence on generations of artists
has been immeasurable, and is still felt today across Japan and
beyond. The Osamu Tezuka: Anime & Manga Character Sketchbook
collects rough concepts from several of Tezuka's anime and manga
projects. Included are characters from Mighty Atom (Astroboy),
Jungle Emperor (Kimba the White Lion), and many more.
Over the course of his career, Osamu Tezuka adapted many of
Shakespeare’s works. Shakespeare Manga Theater collects them into
one volume. The book includes the following: * The Merchant of
Venice (1959) * Robio and Robiette (from Astro Boy, 1965) * Macbeth
(from Vampire “The Three Fortunetellers”, 1966) * Hamlet (from
Rainbow Parakeet, 1981) * The Taming of the Shrew (from Rainbow
Parakeet, 1981) * Othello (from Rainbow Parakeet, 1982) While this
may sound like a collection of manga versions of classic plays,
they would actually be better be described as quality examples of
creative adaptation and storytelling, by a master of the craft.
Shakespeare Manga Theater is sure to be popular not just with
Tezuka fans, but also schools interested in presenting Shakespeare
in a format that is easier for readers to engage with.

Osamu Tezuka's vaunted storytelling genius, consummate skill at
visual expression, and warm humanity blossom fully in his
eight-volume epic of Siddhartha's life and times. Tezuka evidences
his profound grasp of the subject by contextualizing the Buddha's
ideas; the emphasis is on movement, action, emotion, and conflict
as the prince Siddhartha runs away from home, travels across India,
and questions Hindu practices such as ascetic self-mutilation and
caste oppression. Rather than recommend resignation and
impassivity, Tezuka's Buddha predicates enlightenment upon
recognizing the interconnectedness of life, having compassion for
the suffering, and ordering one's life sensibly. Philosophical
segments are threaded into interpersonal situations with
ground-breaking visual dynamism by an artist who makes sure never
to lose his readers' attention.
Tezuka himself was a humanist rather than a Buddhist, and his
magnum opus is not an attempt at propaganda. Hermann Hesse's novel
or Bertolucci's film is comparable in this regard; in fact,
Tezuka's approach is slightly irreverent in that it incorporates
something that Western commentators often eschew, namely, humor.

The third volume of this epic graphic novel send Siddhartha further
into a world mired in pain and suffering. The journey to peace and
enlightenment looms far but bright.
Prince Siddhartha quickly learns that the monk's path is covered in
thorns and self-abuses much more profound than shaving your head.
His new companions Dhepa and Assaji accompany him to plague-ridden
town, ruled by the ravashing Visakha. On a different path filled
with as many vararies is Devadatta, an orphan who learns only that
bad almost always gets worse.
To strange cities, and dire prophecies...
During Japan's tumultuous Sengoku period, one man sells his son to
a pack of devils in exchange for the power to rule. Forty-eight
devils take forty-eight pieces of young Hyakkimaru, and the boy is
left for dead. But through the assistance of a sage and a series of
inventive prosthetics, Hyakkimaru survives. Together with the young
thief Dororo, the now-grown Hyakkimaru embarks upon a quest to slay
all the demons and retrieve the stolen pieces of his body. This
classic story from Osamu Tezuka - the father of modern manga - is
now reimagined in this gorgeous new adaptation by Satoshi Shiki,
the artist of the manga Attack on Titan: Before the Fall.
A BLOOD-SOAKED FAMILY REUNION Hyakkimaru is at last reunited in
brotherhood with Tahomaru, his long-lost sibling. After living for
so long in bitter and violent solitude, he rejoices at their
reunion, yet their newfound fraternal bond will soon be tested. The
brothers come face-to-face with their father, Daigo, a man so
ruthless as to have sacrificed his own flesh and blood to demons in
the pursuit of power!

One Hundred Tales is a story about being careful what you wish for.
Ichirui Hanri is an ordinary accountant servicing his master.
Though innocent, he is ordered to commit hara-kiri after being
entangled in some trouble in his master's house. Just then, a witch
named Sudama appears. She signs a contract with Hanri to obtain his
soul in exchange for fulfilling three of his wishes. Hanri gets
what he wants...but the price he pays is too high. An enchanting
supernatural fable from Osamu Tezuka, known worldwide as the
“Godfather of Manga” and the most influential person of the
past century in the development of Japanese manga and anime.

It is 1936 in Berlin, Nazi Germany. A Japanese reporter named Sohei
Tohge is covering the Berlin Olympic Games for the Japanese press.
As he sits in the Japanese press box watching the many track and
field events of the day, he receives a call from his younger
brother Isao, who has been studying in Germany as an international
student. The two make plans to meet as Isao mentions he has
something of importance to share with his sibling. While Sohei
initially thinks his little brother may have found a young frau,
Isao's tone is clearly that of one who is troubled by topics much
heavier than romance.
When Sohei arrives at Berlin University, he finds his brother's
room has been through some sort of violent ordeal. A mysterious
message was left on a note pad and a window was left wide open. And
tangled in the branches of a tree directly below Isao's window
rested his dead body. Isao was murdered.
Sohei would immediately launch an investigation to the murder, but
almost instantly all traces of information regarding his younger
brother's study in Germany has vanished. The police were of no
help. Isao's room was also cleared and rented out to another
person. Even his building manager feined ignorance. It was as if he
had never existed.
Investigating the matter, it is later learned that this murder is
connected to a document he mailed to Japan with information
regarding Adolf Hitler. As events progress, the lives of three
Adolfs, each from distinct origins, intertwine and become more and
more tangled as Sohei Toge searches for his brother's murderer.
