Lakes across the globe require help. The Lake Restoration Handbook:
A New Zealand Perspective addresses this need through a series of
chapters that draw on recent advances in modelling and monitoring
tools, citizen science and First Peoples' roles, catchment and
lake-focused restoration techniques, and policy implementation. New
Zealand lakes, like lakes across the globe, are subject to multiple
pressures that have increased in severity and scale as land use has
intensified, invasive species have spread and global climate change
becomes manifest. This books builds on the popular Lake Managers
Handbook (1987), which provided guidance on undertaking
investigations into, and understanding lake ecosystems in New
Zealand. The Lake Restoration Handbook: A New Zealand Perspective
synthesises contemporary issues related to lake restoration and
rehabilitation, integrated with social science and cultural
viewpoints, and complemented by authoritative topic-area summaries
by renowned scientists and practitioners from across the globe. The
book examines the progress of lake restoration and the new and
emerging tools available to managers for predicting and effecting
change. The book will be a valuable resource for natural and social
scientists, policy writers, lake managers, and anyone interested in
the health of lake ecosystems.
Since its creation at the epoch-making Hague Peace Conference of
1899, which was attended by 26 states, the Permanent Court of
Arbitration has contributed significantly to the development of
peaceful means to resolve international disputes. In case after
case, the Court's tribunals have prevented international
"incidents" and other tensions from flaring into open hostility,
and set precedents that greatly curtail the justification of
violence between nations. This centenary publication provides a
resource for international lawyers and arbitrators. It provides:
detailed summaries of all the awards, decisions and reports
rendered by both arbitral tribunals and conciliation commissions,
as well as by fact-finding commissions of inquiry, appointed by the
Court throughout its 100-year history; a penetrating analysis of
the signal contributions of the Permanent Court of Arbitration to
international law and dispute resolution; and expert commentary on
some of the procedural challenges faced and resolved by the
Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, arguably the most important
arbitral tribunal of the 20th century, whose inception at the PCA
preceded a 20-year history of achievement. The book reveals the
surprising modernity of this venerable institution. The record
contained in these pages is sure to provide guidance to
practitioners engaged in international dispute resolution as we
move into the next millennium.
In this introduction to the first five books of the Old Testament,
Victor Hamilton moves chapter by chapter through the Pentateuch,
examining the content, structure, and theology. Hamilton surveys
each major thematic unit of the Pentateuch and offers useful
commentary on overarching themes and connections between Old
Testament texts.
In the Old Testament we read God s word as it was spoken to his
people Israel. Today, thousands of years later, we hear in these
thirty-nine books his inspired and authoritative message for us.
These twin convictions, shared by all of the contributors to "The
New International Commentary on the Old Testament," define the goal
of this ambitious series of commentaries. For those many modern
readers who find the Old Testament to be strange and foreign soil,
the NICOT series serves as an authoritative guide bridging the
cultural gap between today s world and the world of ancient Israel.
Each NICOT volume aims to help us hear God s word as clearly as
possible.Scholars, pastors, and serious Bible students will welcome
the fresh light that this commentary series casts on ancient yet
familiar biblical texts. The contributors apply their proven
scholarly expertise and wide experience as teachers to illumine our
understanding of the Old Testament. As gifted writers, they present
the results of the best recent research in an interesting
manner. Each commentary opens with an introduction to the biblical
book, looking especially at questions concerning its background,
authorship, date, purpose, structure, and theology. A select
bibliography also points readers to resources for their own study.
The author s own translation from the original Hebrew forms the
basis of the commentary proper. Verse-by-verse comments nicely
balance in-depth discussions of technical matters -- textual
criticism, critical problems, and so on -- with exposition of the
biblical writer s theology and its implications for the life of
faith today.

Andrew Meade emigrated from County Cork, Ireland, to New York and
then to Nansemond County, Virginia, about 1685. This comprehensive
family history covers sixteen generations of Meades, beginning with
a short discourse of the Meade (also Miagh or Meagh) family in
Ireland. Then, two detailed chapters about Meades in Virginia are
followed by a numerical genealogical table of Meades. The allied
families of Everard, Hardaway, Eggleston, Segar, Pettus and Overton
are covered in separate chapters, as is the "Royal Descent" from
Joan Barrington, the Cromwell family, the Mortimer family and the
Plantagenets. The author's sources include many ancient texts and
well-known works such as Burke's Peerage and Pepys Diary. Modern
sources comprise church records, family histories, county
histories, news clippings and personal papers. This work contains
several illustrations of prominent Meades, family charts and the
Meade coat of arms. There are three separate original indices:
"Meade names," "Other names," and "Places, &c."
