This is a graphic adaptation of the bestselling novel. When Coraline moves to a new house she is fascinated by the fact that their house is in fact only half a house. Divided into flats years before, the other flat, it soon becomes clear to Coraline, is not quite as cosy and safe as her own.
Helminths include one of the most diverse and geographically widespread groups of parasites which infect humans and animals. About 100 species have been reported from humans, usually producing asymptomatic infection or mild symptoms. However, about 20 species are of public health importance causing severe or even fatal infections. In many parts of Africa parasitic helminths are responsible for enormous economic losses, hampering rural development programmes and reducing the pace of economic growth. Many parasitic helminths are either zoonoses (diseases naturally transmitted between vertebrate animals and man) or have evolved from animal parasites. The modification of the environment through wars, famine and the ever expanding and increasingly mobile human population brings people into close contact with new environments and wildlife species which makes the study and control of zoonoses of special interest and complexity. In Africa, the transmission of helminth parasites is highly influenced by the ever changing social and cultural differences between diverse groups of peoples and their interaction with wild and domestic animals. It is not surprising, therefore, that approaches to the study and control of parasitic zoonoses require intersectoral cooperation between physicians, veterinarians, parasitologists, zoologists, demographers, anthropologists, engineers and economists to provide the breadth of knowledge and expertise required to develop our understanding of these diseases and to devise methods for their control. This book provides a selective compilation of parasitic helminths, many of which are zoonoses which create important economic and public health problems in Africa.

This book addresses specific issues involving local control over energy sources and energy uses, including environmental aspects of decentralized and centralized energy supply systems and energy conservation. It considers social and institutional concerns as well as technical and economic issues.
The question of decentralization of energy sources goes to the heart of the energy choices before the United States, but conflicting viewpoints have clouded the issue in recent years. This volume cuts through the rhetoric to address specific issues involving local control over energy sources and energy uses, including environmental aspects of decentralized and centralized energy supply systems; energy conservation and its relation to energy decentralization; behavior, values, and energy choices; institutional issues affecting the commercialization of solar energy, especially in cities; issues of decentralized and conventional energy supply choices in Sweden; and methods by which decentralized energy systems have been studied. Most importantly, each of the papers in this collection considers social and institutional concerns as well as technical and economic issues.
This completely revised and updated second edition of Organometallic Compounds in the Environment treats environmental organometallic chemistry as an integrated and coherent subject area in its own right, bringing together contributions from leading scientists throughout the world. The Introduction summarizes and explores those properties of organometallic compounds that are relevant to their behaviour and impact in the natural environment. Subsequent chapters cover those elements whose organometallic derivatives are especially important in the environmental context. The natural formation of organometallics from inorganic precursors under environmental conditions is also treated in detail. An important underlying theme running through the work is the biological properties and toxicities of the organometallic species present in the environment. In general a full speciation approach is taken, where the full molecular identities of the compounds concerned are considered. Research workers in the fields of organometallic compounds and their environmental impact, as well as those interested in organometallic and environmental chemistry generally, will welcome this new edition. It will also be invaluable as a source book to lecturers teaching courses at undergraduate or graduate level in applied, analytical, industrial, organometallic or environmental chemistry, or in environmental science in general.

To gain a more complete understanding of plant-based ecological community structure requires knowledge of the integration of direct and indirect effects in plant herbivore systems. Trait modification of plants as a result of herbivory is very common and widespread in terrestrial plants, and this initiates indirect interactions between organisms that utilise the same host plant. This book argues that food webs by themselves are inadequate models for understanding ecological communities, because they ignore important indirect, nontrophic links. This subject is of great importance in understanding not only community organisation but also in identifying the underlying mechanisms of maintenance of biodiversity in nature. This book will be an invaluable resource for researchers and graduate students interested in community and population ecology, evolutionary biology, biodiversity, botany and entomology.
