Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Catalyst production for the transformation of crudes into gasoline
and other fuel products is a billion dollar/year business and fluid
cracking catalysts (FCCs) represent almost half of the refinery
catalyst market.
During the cracking reactions, the FCC surface is contaminated by
metals (Ni, V, Fe, Cu, Na) and by coke deposition. As a result, the
catalyst activity and product selectivity is reduced to
unacceptable levels thus forcing refiners to replace part of the
recirculating equilibrium FCC inventory with fresh FCC to
compensate for losses in catalyst performance. About 1,100 tons/day
of FCC are used worldwide in over 200 fluid cracking catalyst units
(FCCUs).
It is for these reasons that refiners' interest in FCC research has
remained high through the years almost independantly, of crude oil
prices. However, recent oil company mergers and the dissolution of
research laboratories, have drastically decreased the number of
researchers involved in petroleum refining research projects; as a
result the emphasis of research has shifted from new materials to
process improvements and this trend is clearly reflected in the
type of papers contained in this volume.
Modern spectroscopic techniques continue to be essential in the
understanding of catalyst performance and several chapters in the
book describe the use of 27Al, 29Si and 13C NMR to study variation
in FCC acidity during aging and coke deposition. In addition
several chapters have been dedicated to the modeling of FCC
deactivation, and to the understanding of contact times on FCC
performance. Refiners efforts to conform with environmental
regulations are reflected in chapters dealing with sulfur removal,
metalscontaminants and olefin generation.
Explore the relationship between faith-based programs, religion,
and offender rehabilitation! This book reports on current research
from several disciplines to help the reader understand the nature
and impact of the relationship between faith-based programs,
religion, and offender rehabilitation. Religion, the Community, and
the Rehabilitation of Criminal Offenders is a unique resourcethere
has been very little research published on this important topic.
President Bush's faith-based initiative recognized that religion
plays a role in the justice system and corrections that is
overlooked but essentialit increases the role of community and
caring in the system in a unique and important way. This
pathbreaking book points the way toward a system of faith-based
programs that are not only effective but also economical, as these
programs are often staffed by volunteers. Religion, the Community,
and the Rehabilitation of Criminal Offenders addresses important
questions regarding the importance and effectiveness of faith-based
rehabilitation programs, including: What is the relationship
between prison religion and offender rehabilitation? What motivates
inmates to become involved with religious programs and activities?
What is the prison chaplain's role in rehabilitation? Are certain
religious denominations more effective than others in preventing
crime, delinquency, and recidivism? How does religious activity
help inmates adjust to the prison environment? What do inmates have
to say about the religious programs they encounter within the
system? How did Islam develop within American correctional
institutions and what changes has the movement gone through in
recent years? Why do female African-American inmates tend to resist
conversion to Islam while their male counterparts embrace the
Muslim faith in increasing numbers? How can sacred texts and social
theory be utilized as teaching tools and intervention strategies in
the transformation processes of men incarcerated for violent
crimes? (A fascinating study from the Sing-Sing prison) and more!
Latin American Fiction and the Narratives of the Perverse contains
analysis of sexual perversion and narrative creativity in fictions
from the Latin American boom and post-boom. O'Connor's main
argument is that orthodox criticism of Latin American literature
has neglected the eccentric singularities of other fictive trends
in the corpus (especially in the second half of the
twentieth-century). At the same time, by examining these eccentric
singularities in their relationship to mainstream trends in the
Latin American corpus, O'Connor forces his readers to view these
master narratives and major trends (such as modernismo or magical
realism) from surprisingly new angles. Five of the authors
discussed (Puig, Lezama, Lima, Cortazar and Sarduy) have an
established place in the Latin American literary canon. A fifth
one, Rosario Ferre, may have come close to achieving that status
with her earlier fictions. Others (Felisberto Hernandez, Alicia
Borinsky, Cristina Peri Rossi and Silvia Molloy) are less well
known, but they are certainly highly significant authors for
scholars and students of contemporary Latin American fiction.
Newly updated with the latest professional content standards,
Clinical Pathology for Athletic Trainers: Recognizing Systemic
Disease, Fourth Edition provides insight on medical conditions
frequently encountered in athletic training. Consistent with the
profession's shift toward the medical model, this Fourth Edition is
complemented by the addition of a sports medicine physician's
perspective. Drs. Rehal A. Bhojani, Daniel P. O'Connor, and A.
Louise Fincher have written this new edition to emphasize practical
knowledge, clinical skills, and decision-making skills.
Incorporating up-to-date standards from the Commission on
Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, National Athletic
Trainers' Association position statements, and the latest
guidelines for medical conditions of various organ systems, this
text reflects the continued growth and evolution of the athletic
trainer's role as a health care professional. It provides
comprehensive knowledge that can be adapted to clinical practices,
urgent cares, academics, research, and more. The Fourth Edition
includes updated: Cases Evidence and references Position statements
NATA and professional documents Information on assessment,
evaluation, and treatment Included with purchase is a supplemental
website with an updated online lab manual. Perfect for athletic
trainers, athletic training students, and other health care
professionals working with physically active populations throughout
the lifespan, Clinical Pathology for Athletic Trainers: Recognizing
Systemic Disease, Fourth Edition is a must-have for any
practitioner seeking to develop their clinical skills.

Most clinical psychologists and cognitive behaviour therapists
adopt a perspective which assumes that a client's distress arises
from inaccurate perceptions of the external world and that these
perceptions are due to the problematic filtering of information
about the external world through internal perceptual biases and
schemas. A Constructionist Clinical Psychology for Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy provides a timely and innovative critique of
the dominant trends in CBT theory and practice. It applies a
constructionist framework to treatment and offers a constructionist
philosophy and methodology to complement existing clinical
approaches in cognitive behaviour therapy. Kieron O'Connor presents
a much needed alternative constructionist framework (addressing
both individual and social constructionist ideas) which is laid out
in a clear fashion for the clinician. He shows how the framework
can be integrated into practice and offers an alternative to
viewing psychopathology as an isolated problem which focuses on
pathology as a response to internal or external events. He reveals
how the new constructionist framework can encourage clinicians to
look at the client centred context which creates psychopathology
and explore areas and experiences not easily accessible to
traditional cognitive behaviour approaches, but which are rendered
understandable through a constructionist approach to experience.
Using extensive case studies, A Constructionist Clinical Psychology
for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy provides a constructionist
framework approach which complements existing CBT approaches and
shines new light on questions as to why some techniques work and
others do not. With new tools for case formulation and evaluation,
and trainee exercises for beginners, the book will appeal to
clinical psychologists, clinical researchers, psychotherapists and
other health and mental health professionals
