William Shakespeare and 21st-Century Culture, Politics, and
Leadership examines problems, challenges, and crises in our
contemporary world through the lens of William Shakespeare's plays,
one of the best-known, most admired, and often controversial
authors of the last half-millennium. As perhaps the most oft-cited
author in the West outside of the Judeo-Christian Bible,
Shakespeare has often been considered a sage, providing manifold
insights into our shared human qualities and experiences across
time and geography. The editors and authors of this accessible book
leverage the now global scope of that sibylline reputation to
explore what the Bard might tell us about ourselves, our politics,
our leaders, and our societies today. The chapters are written with
critical rigor and will appeal to scholars and students in
leadership and literary studies but are accessible to
non-Shakespeare experts. Anyone looking to explore the ongoing
relevance of Shakespeare's work will find this volume enlightening
and entertaining.
In 1940, a group of sportsmen of the first rank, members of the
Southern Amateur Field Trial Club of Albany, Georgia, undertook to
design a field trial format that would provide a more comprehensive
and rigorous test of the qualities of high class bird dogs. Dubbed
the Odream trialO by William F. Brown at its inaugural offering,
the trial, the Quail Championship, was contested in 1941, and 1942
in the quail-rich plantation country in the Albany, Georgia area.
Interrupted by World War II, the trial remained as only a bright
and shining memory until 1964 when it was resurrected as the Quail
Championship Invitational in 1964 at Paducah, Kentucky. Limited to
twelve invited contestants, the best of the previous yearOs major
circuit competition, the trial seeks to identify a bird dog with
strength, courage, intelligence, and character at the highest
level, the Obest of the best.O True to its origin, the trial
provides the most comprehensive and equitable test of the major
circuit dogs of the field trial sport.
"The transnationalism of ordinary lives threatens the stability of
national identity and unsettles the framework of national histories
and biography. This book takes mobility, not nation, as its frame,
and captures a rich array of lives, from the elite to the
subaltern, that have crossed national, racial, and cartographic
boundaries"--Provided by publisher.

The present book was written some twenty years ago but it has not
lost its topicality, for it contains an important re-assessment of
the relations of two main streams of contemporary philosophy - the
Analytical and the Dialectic. Adherents and critics of these
traditions tend to assurnethat they are diametrically opposed, that
their roots, concerns and approaches contradict each other, and
that no reconciliation is possible. In contradistinction Russell
derives both traditions from the common root of the dissatisfaction
with the arguments against speculative philosophy. These according
to the author leave a lacuna - certain elementsof our
Weltanschaaung have been removed, but they cannot be removed
without replacement lest we have an incomplete world view, so
incomplete in fact that it cannot be viable. According to Russell
part of this vacuum is taken up by the analytical tradition but
this tradition is not capable of taking up the remainder of it.
That portion of the vacant space is however taken up by the
dialectical tradi tion, which in turn cannot itself handle the
whole of the problem. Thus the two reactions to the demise of
speculative philosophy appear to be complementary in at least this
sense. But the author goes further, for according to hirn the
analytical arguments themselves clearly point to the emergence of
dialectical problems, and the dialectical problems themselves need
some such background to arise."
In August, 1996, the ACS Division of Polymeric Materials: Science
and Engineering hosted a symposium on Interfacial Aspects of
Multicomponent Polymer Materials at the Orlando, Florida, American
Chemical Society meeting. Over 50 papers and posters were
presented. The symposium proper was preceded by a one-day workshop,
where the. basics of this relatively new field were developed. This
edited book is a direct outcome of the symposium and workshop.
Every object in the universe has surfaces and interfaces. A surface
is defined as that part of a material in contact with either a gas
or a vacuum. An interface is defined as that part of a material in
contact with a condensed phase, be it liquid or solid. Surfaces of
any substance are different from their interior. The appearance of
surface or interfacial tension is one simple manifestation. Polymer
blends and composites usually contain very finely divided phases,
which are literally full of interfaces. Because interfaces are
frequently weak mechanically, they pose special problems in the
manufacture of strong, tough plastics, adhesives, elastomers,
coatings, and fibers. This book provides a series of papers
addressing this issue. Some papers delineate the nature of the
interface both chemically and physically. The use of newer
instrumental methods and new theories are described. Concepts of
interdiffusion and entanglement are developed. Other papers
describe state-of-the-art approaches to improving the interface,
via graft and block copolymers, direct covalent bonding, hydrogen
bonding, and more.

First published in 1994, this book brings together the papers
presented at the International Forum on 'Future Visions of Urban
Public Housing' held on November 17-20, 1994 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Participants included public housing officials, academics,
practitioners and public housing residents who came together to
debate, compare and analyse practices and issues in urban and
public housing in industrialised nations. The 55 collected papers
address the following key topics: public housing policy;
comprehensive neighbourhood planning for public housing; public
housing in the urban design context; quality of design standards
and guidelines for public housing; resident participation and
enhanced self-sufficiency in public housing; public housing
alternatives; revitalising and rehabilitating public housing; the
Elderly, Children, and special populations in public housing. The
findings suggest new directions for policy and agendas for action.
