"The Government" is a unique explanation of current American
political activities and its relation to a world that is quickly
learning how to cope with the United State's attempt to control the
planet. With troops stationed in over 140 countries world wide, the
impact of Americanization is as widely accepted as it is rejected.
The threat does not escape China and the European Union rapidly
competing for the same economic real estate. At home, the country
faces a staggering 75 plus trillion-dollar debt that has encumbered
future generations for as far as families can envision. "The
Government's" answer to super diseases and nuclear terrorism lies
in the submission of all people to its total will and without
representation. This is possibly one of the most shocking political
essays of our time and a wake-up call to arms for patriotic
Americans that wish to prevent a Second far bloodier American
Revolution which otherwise will surely follow.
This book offers a detailed exploration of the plot genotype, the
functional structure behind the plots of classical fairy tales. By
understanding how plot genotypes are used, the reader or creative
writer will obtain a much better understanding of many other types
of fiction, including short stories, dramatic texts and Hollywood
screenplays.
In Screenplay: The Foundations of Screenwriting (1979), Syd Field
first popularized the Three-Act Paradigm of Setup, Confrontation
and Resolution for conceptualizing and creating the Hollywood
screenplay. For Field, the budding screenwriter needs a clear
screenplay structure, one which includes two well-crafted plot
points, the first at the end of Act I, the second at the end of Act
II. By focusing on the importance of the four essentials of
beginning and end, and the two pivotal plot points, Field did the
Hollywood film industry an enormous service. Nonetheless, although
he handles the issue of overall structure expertly, Field falls
down when offering the screenwriter advice on how to successfully
build each of the three individual Acts. This is because Field did
not recognize the importance of another layer of analysis that
underpins the existence of plot points. This is the level of the
plot genotype. This book will offer you a richer theory of plot
structure than the one Field outlines. It will do this not by
contradicting anything Field has to say about the Hollywood
paradigm, but by complementing it with a deeper level of analysis.
Plot genotypes are the compositional schemas of particular stories.
They are sets of instructions, written in the language of the plot
function, for executing particular plots. This book outlines the
plot genotypes for The Frog Prince, The Robber Bridegroom,
Puss-in-Boots, and Little Red Riding Hood and then shows how these
genotypes provide the underpinnings for the film screenplays of
Pretty Woman, Wrong Turn, The Mask, and Psycho. By means of a
detailed study of these four Hollywood screenplays, you will be
able to offer a much richer description of what is going on at any
particular point in a screenplay. In this way, you will become much
sharper at understanding how screenplays work. And you will become
much better at learning how to write coherent screenplays yourself.
A Divided Union delves deep into ten pressing political challenges
that former US Representatives Patrick Murphy (D) and David Jolly
(R) have identified over their multiple terms in Congress and that
continue to plague the American electorate today. In an
introduction describing their unique paths to Congress, Murphy and
Jolly focus in detail on key institutional barriers they faced in
Washington in attempting to do the job voters elected them to do.
They introduce us to geographic challenges, demographic change, a
polarized media, gerrymandering, the role of money in politics, the
structure of primary elections, and several other aspects of
political life on Capitol Hill. The core of the book is original
analysis by experts who tackle these topics in a manner relevant to
both the seasoned political science student as well as the general
reader. From the commercials we see on TV to the city council
districts in which we live, these concerns shape every facet of our
public lives and are distilled here in a careful synthesis of years
of experience and research. Contributors include former federal
elected officials, political science professors, members of the
press, and scholars immersed in their fields of study. While other
textbooks may examine similar issues, few have been edited by
former members of the U.S. House who have walked the halls of
Congress and directly experienced political dysfunction at so many
levels - and are willing to address it. A Divided Union is
appropriate for all political science students as well as the
general public frustrated and alarmed by political gridlock.

The edited collection, Eco Culture: Disaster, Narrative, Discourse,
opens a conversation about the mediated relationship between
culture and ecology. The dynamic between these two great forces
comes into stark relief when a disaster-in its myriad forms and
narratives-reveals the fragility of our ecological and cultural
landscapes. Disasters are the clashing of culture and ecology in
violent and tragic ways, and the results of each clash create
profound effects to both. So much so, in fact, that the terms
ecology and culture are past separation. We are far removed from
their prior historical binaric connection, and they coincide
through a supplementary role to each other. Ecology and culture are
unified.

International football fixtures, such as the World Cup finals in
italy in 1990, draw together not only rival teams but rival fans.
The police and the media are increasingly geared up to tackle
international fixtures as occasions for the outbreak of crowd
disorder. It can sometimes seem that the behaviour of the fans is
more important than the game itself. "Football on Trial" examines
some of the causes of football hooliganism as a European and World
phenomenon. It casts an eye forward to the 1994 World Cup in Los
Angeles and asks why soccer hooliganism has not been a problem in
the USA. It also examines the connections between player violence
and spectator violence, and considers the role of the media in
producing soccer crowd disorder. The authors have also written
"Hooligans Abroad" and "The Roots of Football Hooliganism".

Humberto Rosa and Thairon Mendes co-direct this documentary-style
Irish horror. The story follows five twenty-somethings who travel
to a remote hostel off the coast of Ireland for the weekend. After
arriving and finding the place deserted, the friends hold a seance
that disturbs a restless evil spirit. Will the group's captured
footage help solve their mysterious disppearance?

This book reflects the personal prejudices I have developed in
twenty years of reading the scientific literature. I like
monographs; good ones assemble a great deal of information in a
logical sequence and in enough detail to enable one to see why
current beliefs are held. For this purpose, it is entirely useless
to write "as Smith has shown21 ,81,117 **** " That only means that
one must go to the library and turn up Smith's original papers, and
one's object in reading a monograph is precisely to avoid that
neces sity. One needs to know what Smith did and why he thought his
observa tions proved whatever he claimed. Because life is short, it
is impossible to deal with several thousand papers in this way, and
the author must there fore select a relatively few papers that he
regards as crucial. Often, several papers of equal merit might be
quoted, and the selection is then arbitrary. I therefore apologize
to authorities who do not find their work discussed. Omission does
not mean that I thought their work was not valuable; it means only
that I preferred to quote twenty references that people might read
rather than two thousand that assuredly no one would read. Another
strong prejUdice is that the full understanding of present
knowledge requires one to know how present views have developed.
With pressure increasing to utilise wastes and residues effectively
and sustainably, the production of biogas represents one of the
most important routes towards reaching national and international
renewable energy targets. The biogas handbook: Science, production
and applications provides a comprehensive and systematic guide to
the development and deployment of biogas supply chains and
technology.
Following a concise overview of biogas as an energy option, part
one explores biomass resources and fundamental science and
engineering of biogas production, including feedstock
characterisation, storage and pre-treatment, and yield
optimisation. Plant design, engineering, process optimisation and
digestate utilisation are the focus of part two. Topics considered
include the engineering and process control of biogas plants,
methane emissions in biogas production, and biogas digestate
quality, utilisation and land application. Finally, part three
discusses international experience and best practice in biogas
utilisation. Biogas cleaning and upgrading to biomethane,
biomethane use as transport fuel and the generation of heat and
power from biogas for stationery applications are all discussed.
The book concludes with a review of market development and
biomethane certification schemes.
With its distinguished editors and international team of expert
contributors, The biogas handbook: Science, production and
applications is a practical reference to biogas technology for
process engineers, manufacturers, industrial chemists and
biochemists, scientists, researchers and academics working in this
field.

Soccer hooliganism has long been regarded as primarily an English -
or perhaps British - disease, yet in fact it has long existed as a
social problem worldwide. In this volume, experts consider
hooliganism in 14 countries - eight soccer-playing countries in
Europe (including Ireland), two in South America, Australia, South
Africa, Japan, and, in the case of North America, a chapter on
general sports-related violence. Why have problems of hooliganism
from the outset become more regularly attached to soccer than to
other global sports? The social roots and forms of soccer
hooliganism are explored in the various countries. Do racial,
religious or social class cleavages play a part in developing and
fostering football violence? What part do the media play? Is
hooliganism related to the degree to which soccer is central to the
value-system of a country, and the length of time that it has
occupied such a position? Though they themselves adhere to a range
of different sociological perspectives, the contributors focus on
the important theoretical framework devised by Eric Dunning and the
Leicester School, in particular the role of aggressive masculinity
and the hypothesis that attending matches is part of a "quest for
excitement".
