What does a home look like in twenty-first-century New York? While
the city s name alone brings to mind very specific ideas the Fifth
Avenue penthouse, with its elegant mouldings and crystal
chandeliers; the SoHo loft, with its bright spaces and air of
bohemian ease; the Brooklyn brownstone, with its fireplaces,
parquet floors, and lush backyards the truth is, New York today is
much more than this, and the potential for variety in ways of
living is, now more than ever, virtually limitless. As a result, in
the twenty-first century, the combined design professions enjoy an
unprecedented menu of prospective solutions, whether based upon
respect for a classically inflected New York past, an emphatic
denial of such a tradition, or, most often, some hybrid response
that often yields the best innovation possible. New York Living
celebrates this vast potential while exploring contemporary
apartments and town houses throughout the city, ranging beyond
Manhattan into the outer boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, Staten
Island, and the Bronx, and back to the centre, Manhattan, which
continues to climb ever higher in its reach toward the sky.
Molecular recognition undoubtedly governs any aspect of cellular
interaction. To understand tumor cell growth regulation and spread,
analysisof protein carbohydrate interactions can contribute to lead
to the establishment of rational methods for diagnosis and therapy.
Chemically and biochemically optimized preparation of adequate
tools, their application for localization of receptor (tissue
lectin) and ligand (cellular glycoconjugate) pairs in tumor cells
and tumor sections and the usefulness of a lectin from a plant
extract as potent immunomodulator indicate the prospect for a place
of such techniques in pathology and oncology.

English summary: In view of chronic inflation and mass unemployment
in many countries around the world, this book addresses the
question of how and under which circumstances a higher degree of
economic stability could be achieved. Paul-Gunther Schmidt presents
a post-monetarist theory drawing special attention to a variety of
institutional factors that condition the macroeconomic performance
of a market economy in the long run. In a cross-national empirical
analysis of central banks, exchange rate regimes, banking sectors,
political systems and labor market relations in 47 democracies
during the last quarter of the twentieth century, the author
delivers strong empirical support for the basic message of his
book: in the long run the degree of macroeconomic stability is
conditioned by the institutional architecture of the national
economic and political system. German description: Ein Vergleich
Landern uberhaupt verwirklichen lasst.Paul-Gunther Schmidt stellt
Systems bedingt sieht.
