A traditional whodunit with romantic interludes. It's murder most
foul in Leggy Bottom. Our dizzy detective and her faithful sidekick
are on the trail of a dangerous killer with a most unusual modus
operandi. Can Rosie catch the criminal in time, and will she
succeed in winning the heart of local vet, Gilbert Darcy?
The Practice of Engineering Dynamics is a textbook that takes a
systematic approach to understanding dynamic analysis of mechanical
systems. It comprehensively covers dynamic analysis of systems from
equilibrium states to non-linear simulations and presents frequency
analysis of experimental data. It divides the practice of
engineering dynamics into three parts: Part 1 - Modelling: Deriving
Equations of Motion; Part 2 - Simulation: Using the Equations of
Motion; and Part 3- Experimental Frequency Domain Analysis. This
approach fulfils the need to be able to derive the equations
governing the motion of a system, to then use the equations to
provide useful design information, and finally to be able to
analyze experimental data measured on dynamic systems. The Practice
of Engineering Dynamics includes end of chapter exercises and is
accompanied by a website hosting a solutions manual.
This book examines the nature of work and management, centring on
documents as a class of management objects which have been
relatively understudied in ethnomethodological research. Treating
documents and similar artefacts as ordering devices, the authors
describe consociation - the social organisation of patterns of
coordinated action in situations where the usual resources of face
to face communication are absent. With a focus on senior managers,
this volume provides a description of the interior configuration of
the world of senior management as the encountered, everyday
experience of managing, drawing on first person experience rather
than ethnographic fieldwork to shed new light on the importance of
third person reflection upon practical understandings. An
innovative study of the social character of such management objects
as spreadsheets, strategic plans, computational models and charts,
Action at a Distance will appeal to scholars of sociology with
interests in ethnomethodology, the sociology of work and method in
the social sciences.
Is your leadership a competitive advantage, or is it costing you?
How do you know? Are you developing your leadership effectiveness
at the pace of change? For most leaders today, complexity is
outpacing their personal and collective development. Most leaders
are in over their heads, whether they know it or not. The most
successful organizations over time are the best led. While this has
always been true, today escalating global complexity puts
leadership effectiveness at a premium. Mastering Leadership
involves developing the effectiveness of leaders individually and
collectively and turning that leadership into a competitive
advantage. This comprehensive roadmap for optimal leadership
features: * Breakthrough research that connects increased
leadership effectiveness with enhanced business performance * The
first fully integrated Universal Model of Leadership one that
integrates the best theory and research in the fields of Leadership
and Organizational Development over the last half century * A free,
online self-assessment of your leadership, using the Leadership
Circle Profile, visibly outlining how you are currently leading and
how to develop even greater effectiveness * The five stages in the
evolution of leadership Egocentric, Reactive, Creative, Integral,
and Unitive along with the organizational structures and cultures
that develop at each of these stages * Six leadership practices for
evolving your leadership capability at a faster pace * A map of
your optimal path to greater leadership effectiveness * Case
stories that facilitate pragmatic application of this Leadership
Development System to your particular situation This timeless,
authoritative text provides a systemic approach for developing your
senior leaders and the leadership system of your organization. It
does not recommend quick fixes, but argues that real development
requires a strategic, long-term, and integrated approach in order
to forge more effective leaders and enhanced business performance.
Mastering Leadership offers a developmental pathway to bring forth
the highest and best use of yourself, your life, and your
leadership. By more meaningfully deploying all of who you are every
day, individually and collectively, you will achieve a leadership
legacy consistent with your highest aspirations.
An in-depth introduction to the foundations of vibrations for
students of mechanical engineering For students pursuing their
education in Mechanical Engineering, An Introduction to Mechanical
Vibrations is a definitive resource. The text extensively covers
foundational knowledge in the field and uses it to lead up to and
include: finite elements, the inerter, Discrete Fourier Transforms,
flow-induced vibrations, and self-excited oscillations in rail
vehicles. The text aims to accomplish two things in a single,
introductory, semester-length, course in vibrations. The primary
goal is to present the basics of vibrations in a manner that
promotes understanding and interest while building a foundation of
knowledge in the field. The secondary goal is to give students a
good understanding of two topics that are ubiquitous in today's
engineering workplace - finite element analysis (FEA) and Discrete
Fourier Transforms (the DFT- most often seen in the form of the
Fast Fourier Transform or FFT). FEA and FFT software tools are
readily available to both students and practicing engineers and
they need to be used with understanding and a degree of caution.
While these two subjects fit nicely into vibrations, this book
presents them in a way that emphasizes understanding of the
underlying principles so that students are aware of both the power
and the limitations of the methods. In addition to covering all the
topics that make up an introductory knowledge of vibrations, the
book includes: End of chapter exercises to help students review key
topics and definitions Access to sample data files, software, and
animations via a dedicated website
Transform Your Organization by Scaling Leadership How do senior
leaders, in their own words, describe the most effective
leaders--the ones that get results, grow the business, enhance the
culture and leave in their wake a trail of other really effective
leaders? Conversely, how do senior leaders describe the kind of
leader that undercuts the organization's capacity and capability to
create its future? This book, based on groundbreaking research,
shows how senior leaders describe and develop leadership that
works, that does not, that scales, and that limits scale. Is your
leadership built for scale as you advance in today's volatile,
uncertain, dynamic, and disruptive business environment? This
context puts a premium on a very particular kind of
leadership--High-Creative leadership capable of rapidly growing the
organization while simultaneously transforming it into more agile,
innovative, adaptive and engaging workplace. The research presented
in this book suggests that senior leaders can describe the
High-Creative leadership with surprising clarity. They also
describe with equal precision the High-Reactive leadership that
cancels itself out and seriously limits scale. Which type of leader
are you? You scale your leadership by increasing the multiple on
your leadership in three ways. First, by developing the strengths
that differentiate the most effective leaders from the strengths
deployed by the most Reactive and ineffective leaders. And second,
by increasing your leadership ratio--the ratio of most the
effective strengths to the most damaging liabilities. Third, by
developing High-Creative leaders all around you. Scaling Leadership
provides a proven framework for magnifying agile and scalable
leadership in your organization. Scalable leadership drives
forward-momentum by multiplying high-achieving leaders at scale so
that growth, productivity and innovation increase exponentially.
Creative leaders multiply their strengths beyond technical
competence by leading in deep relationship, with radical humanity,
passion and integrity. Drawing upon decades of solid research and
experience enhancing individual capability and collective
leadership effectiveness with Fortune 500 companies and government
agencies, the authors provide an innovative and efficient framework
to help you: Take stock of your own personal balance of leadership
strengths and weaknesses Scale your leadership in deep relationship
and high integrity Proliferate high-achievers throughout your
organization's leadership system Identify ineffective leadership
and course-correct quickly Transform your organization by
transforming leadership Scaling Leadership is an invaluable tool
for executives, managers, and leaders in business, academia,
nonprofit organizations, and more. This innovative resource
provides effective techniques, real-world examples, and expert
guidance for organizations seeking to improve performance, align
and execute strategies, and transform their business with scalable
leadership capability.
