authors.
This volume contains 17 papers on composite steel structures,
presented at the International Conference organised by the
Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, University College,
Cardiff, UK. It covers the design of bridges, flooring design
practices, connection design and cyclic tests.
An Introduction to Design for Civil Engineers is a concise book
that provides the reader with the necessary background on
terminology used in design. With this book as a guide, entry-level
students of civil engineering will better understand from the
outset lectures on detailed subject areas. Drawing on a wealth of
experience, the authors present a largely qualitative treatment of
the subject matter with little mathematics. Descriptions are
amplified with numerous illustrations. This book will be a useful
aid for entry-level students of civil engineering and related
disciplines such as structural engineering, building engineering
and architecture. It will also prove beneficial for newly qualified
professionals and others who want a concise guide to everyday
design technology.

Now includes Worked Examples for lectutrers in a companion pdf! The
fourth edition of this volume presents design principles and
practical guidance for key hydraulic structures. Fully revised and
updated, this new edition contains enhanced texts and sections on:
environmental issues and the World Commission on Dams partially
saturated soils, small amenity dams, tailing dams, upstream dam
face protection and the rehabilitation of embankment dams RCC dams
and the upgrading of masonry and concrete dams flow over stepped
spillways and scour in plunge pools cavitation, aeration and
vibration of gates risk analysis and contingency planning in dam
safety small hydroelectric power development and tidal and wave
power wave statistics, pipeline stability, wave-structure
interaction and coastal modelling computational models in hydraulic
engineering. The book's key topics are explored in two parts - dam
engineering and other hydraulic structures - and the text concludes
with a chapter on models in hydraulic engineering. Worked numerical
examples supplement the main text and extensive lists of references
conclude each chapter. Hydraulic Structures provides advanced
students with a solid foundation in the subject and is a useful
reference source for researchers, designers and other
professionals.

Steel Framed Structures contains ten chapters on rigid frames,
sway frames, multi-storey frames, interbraced columns and beams,
elastic stability, moment-resisting connections, flexibly connected
frames, portal frames, and braced arches.
This book discusses various aspects of the design of a plate girder
and focuses on the associated stability problems in shear. It deals
with stability problems in compression, such as those met in box
girder flanges and ship hulls, and is helpful for structural
designers and post-graduate students.

This book is the most comprehension work on R.K.Narayan and perhaps
the only one that the aim of this book is to exhibit how Narayan's
comical sense goes with the three personality types: - Sattva,
Rajas and Tamas. Through the psyche analysis of the common human
weaknesses, it results, the change in the process of mind and then,
is the rebirth of self and the process of its education. As the
main application of the gunas in the Gita is ethical, we use
goodness for Satva, passion for Rajas and dullness for Tamas. All
three gunas (personality types) the source of humour, of comic
enjoyment and comic spectacle in the novels of R.K.Narayan. The
Psyche-moral comic sense exists in his almost all novels. But peaks
in the two novels: Mr.Sampath and the Guide. Hence, the two novels
are being treated the main sources for writing this book. Narayan's
comic genius combines moral analysis all the two novels. Besides,
this book brings a novel concept and unique in its kind, and also
gives new dimension to highlight by using Gunas to achieve
psyche-moral comic sense.
What makes some companies survive the test of time while others
struggle and perish? Corporations do not exist in isolation; they
are always part of something else, something bigger-an ecosystem.
Inspired by the secrets of shinise (Japanese companies dating back
to the time of samurais), R. Gopalakrishnan and R. Narayanan take a
deep dive into the art of growing and sustaining a business. Over
the forty-eight years of his close association with Unilever and
Tata, Gopalakrishnan has gathered experiences and know-how about
what makes companies tick, while Narayanan, having worked with
Coca-Cola, Nestlé and then two start-ups of his own, has developed
keen insights about angel investing and mentoring. Wisdom for
Start-ups from Grown-ups is the culmination of their collaborative
effort to bring the best of what grown-ups have to offer to
start-ups, presented in the form of all-important lessons.
