‘An incredibly useful take on facing grief as a young person’
CARIAD LLOYD 'Brilliantly, brilliantly written … Packed with
clarity, curiosity and courage' FELIX WHITE Grief does something
particular when it hits you young. This book is a moving
exploration of that transformative pain, from the founder of The
Grief Network. Rachel Wilson’s mother died when Rachel was in her
twenties. It felt like the definitive end of childhood, a loss that
rewired her perspective on life, death, relationships and who she
was as a person. In this book, Rachel brings together other stories
of bereavement with her own, encountering people who have lost
parents, siblings, partners and friends at a young age. Losing
Young draws on psychological research, interviews with titans like
Julia Samuel and explorations of grief in history: what happens in
a time of war or pandemic, when the many grieve – or struggle to
– together? How do different cultures process the end of a life
differently? How can the grief of losing a parent return in strange
form when one thinks about having children? What do TV and fiction
get disastrously, unhelpfully wrong? This is a personal and
profound book about what happens when youth is reshaped by tragedy,
trauma and loss. It’s for anyone who mourns a lost future, who is
struggling to find themselves after grief, or hopes to feel less
alone.

When Andrew and Rachel found out that one, and then both, of their
children had severe autism, their world was turned on its head.
This is a book about surviving, and thriving, when something goes
horribly wrong. It is a mixture of their story and God's story, and
the way in which his has shaped theirs. With clarity and biblical
insight, they share their experience of grief and worship, struggle
and hope. As well as reflecting on the specific challenges of
raising children with special needs, they speak to broader
questions: the problem of suffering, building a marriage under
pressure, fighting for joy, and trusting in God's goodness. This is
not just for families and friends of special needs children, but
for all who have been thrown a curve ball in life, and need to know
how to lament, worship, pray and hope. [Award-winning title]

Provides a thorough examination of the role of women in Ascendancy
Ireland. The late seventeenth and early eighteenth century was a
period of great social and political change within Ireland, as the
Protestant Ascendancy gained control of the country, aided by the
English government and aristocracy, withwhom the ruling class in
Ireland mixed through marriage and travel. The resulting
Anglo-Irish elite, with its distinct transnational identity,
differed markedly from the preceding Irish elite, but, at the same
time, because of itsIrish dimension, was very different also from
the contemporary English and Scottish upper classes. Women played
key roles in this Anglo-Irish elite, and the nature of the
Protestant Ascendancy can only be completely understood
byconsidering women's roles fully. This book provides a thorough
examination of the role of women in Ascendancy Ireland. It
discusses marriage, family and social life; explores women's roles
in economic and political life and in charitable activities; and
places Irish elite women of this period in their wider
historiographical context. The book is based on extensive original
research, including among the papers of aristocratic families in
Ireland and Britain, and provides a wealth of detail on elite
women's lives in this period. Rachel Wilson completed her doctorate
in modern history at Queen's University, Belfast.
