This is a volume in memory of Vladas Sidoravicius who passed away in 2019. Vladas has edited two volumes appeared in this series ("In and Out of Equilibrium") and is now honored by friends and colleagues with research papers reflecting Vladas' interests and contributions to probability theory.

Simple random walks - or equivalently, sums of independent random vari ables - have long been a standard topic of probability theory and mathemat ical physics. In the 1950s, non-Markovian random-walk models, such as the self-avoiding walk, were introduced into theoretical polymer physics, and gradu ally came to serve as a paradigm for the general theory of critical phenomena. In the past decade, random-walk expansions have evolved into an important tool for the rigorous analysis of critical phenomena in classical spin systems and of the continuum limit in quantum field theory. Among the results obtained by random-walk methods are the proof of triviality of the cp4 quantum field theo ryin space-time dimension d (:::: ) 4, and the proof of mean-field critical behavior for cp4 and Ising models in space dimension d (:::: ) 4. The principal goal of the present monograph is to present a detailed review of these developments. It is supplemented by a brief excursion to the theory of random surfaces and various applications thereof. This book has grown out of research carried out by the authors mainly from 1982 until the middle of 1985. Our original intention was to write a research paper. However, the writing of such a paper turned out to be a very slow process, partly because of our geographical separation, partly because each of us was involved in other projects that may have appeared more urgent.

Urban areas constitute complex entities where biophysical and socioeconomic environments interact through processes that determine the distribution of land use. Given Chile's variety of landscapes, erosion, and mass movement, and rapid expansion of its cities, straightforward techniques for assessment of land use suitability are essential. Through evaluation of water erosion susceptibility, it is possible to determine suitability of land use in medium-sized cities and their adjacent environments. The application of the Erosion Response Units concept (Marker et al., 2001) in the cities of Colina and Melipilla, Metropolitan Region of Santiago, Chile, enabled an improved understanding of the relationship among erosion and land use potential in urban environments. Since publicly available remote sensor and ancillary GIS data were incorporated, this approach has application beyond the cities studied. The results indicate it is possible to assess the land use suitability of medium-sized urban areas based on water erosion susceptibility by using an integrated modeling framework. Thus, the highest degrees of land use suitability are associated with lowest degrees of erosion susceptibility.

Inteligencia proyectual agrupa textos conceptuales sobre que y como investigar en arquitectura, junto a trabajos que registran algunos avances de investigacion de su autor, no como referencias sino como ejercicios para poner en evidencia aspectos inherentes a temas y metodos posibles. Consecuencia de los seminarios de investigacion realizados en la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Abierta Interamericana (UAI), pretenden aportar a la consolidacion del conocimiento proyectual, base de argumentos teoricos para una arquitectura mas adaptada a un lugar y una epoca.

La presente investigacion se adentra en la logica contenida en los procesos de socializacion del devenir del movimiento trovadoresco cubano para dilucidar las practicas de socializacion desde el arte en la pena "La Trovuntivitis." Se precisa de un diagnostico actual de las practicas de los nuevos actores para develar la tendencia dominante y la ley social contenida en el hecho artistico. Con ello propiciar un posterior proceso de transformacion sociocultural que permita reinstituir practicas de socializacion desde el arte emancipatorias, necesarias en los proyectos culturales de la nacion cubana. El Mejunje con la conocida pena "La Trovuntivitis," desde finales de los 90 en correspondencia con la alternatividad con que inicia, espacio para la creacion y produccion colectiva de un arte emancipador. La irrupcion de actores sociales heterogeneos en la actualidad, con diferentes intereses y motivaciones musicales, ha transformado las practicas de socializacion desde el arte instituidas en este. Se aprecia una ruptura del vinculo comunal simetrico en el entorno de la pena y su sustitucion gradual por practicas ajenas a los fines de la institucion."
