For over 100 years, the Kruger National Park has provided sanctuary to southern Africa's most precious asset, its wildlife, Wild Kruger pays tribute to this achievement, capturing the essence of this conservation success story. Here the park's wild inhabitants can be seen in environments more typical of their species. Loosely ordered by habitat, Wild Kruger meanders along the park's arterial rivers, the haunt of baboon and leopard, as well as hippo and a myriad water birds that make their living along the water's edge in this riverine environment. Crocodile own the watery establishment, and can charge thirsty patrons a hefty price for a drink of water. Moving away from the rivers that are the lifeblood of the park, and into the bushveld - realm of the exalted lion – Wild Kruger shows giraffe delicately pruning the acacia trees that are synonymous with Africa. Wild dogs and hyena hunt under cover of the woodlands, and shy sable and roan antelope hide in the expansive mopane forests that "swallow" entire herds of elephant without a trace. Emerging from the thick bushveld into the open savanna, Wild Kruger reveals white rhinoceros as they languidly graze the lush grasslands. The rhino are joined by other plains game, including zebra and wildebeest, and the formidable buffalo. This is the shared domain of cheetah, nature's speedsters, and the Kruger National Park’s most ubiquitous antelope, the impala.
Adrian Bailey has spent a great deal of time photographing wildlife, particularly in Botswana. Here he depicts the most scenic areas of the country, from the rolling sands of the Kalahari and the magical vistas of the Okavango Delta, to the lush riverine forest of the Chobe. The book encapsulates the very essence of Botswana, a land that is blessed with an endless variety of scenery, wildlife, and colourful indigenous people that make this place one of the last unspoilt edens of Africa.
