Gain the pharmacology knowledge and skills you need to administer
medications safely! Pharmacology and the Nursing Process, 10th
Edition provides practical, easy-to-use pharmacology information,
emphasizing the application of the nursing process and
prioritization throughout the book. Coverage begins with
pharmacology basics, then discusses drugs by body systems and drug
functions. Hundreds of full-color illustrations show how drugs work
in the body and depict key steps in medication administration.
Written by pharmacology experts Linda Lane Lilley, Shelly Rainforth
Collins, and Julie S. Snyder, this bestselling textbook makes it
easy to understand and apply pharmacology concepts and provide
safe, quality nursing care. Focus on need-to-know information
includes discussions of what nurses may encounter during drug
administration in a variety of health care settings, providing
accounts of real-life medication errors and tips for avoiding those
errors. The Nursing Process is applied to each category of drugs,
ensuring that you administer medications accurately and safely, and
includes the steps of assessment, human need statements, planning,
implementation, and evaluation. Emphasis on drug classes describes
key similarities and differences among the drugs in each class,
making it easier to understand how individual drugs work in the
body. Consistent presentation for each drug group includes the
mechanism of action, indications, contraindications, adverse
effects, interactions, and dosages, concluding with drug profiles
of individual drugs in the class or group. High-alert icons
identify medications that pose a greater risk to patient safety.
Focus on prioritization includes prioritized nursing diagnoses
along with a corresponding prioritization of goals and outcomes, to
help you learn to connect nursing diagnoses with goals and
outcomes. Ease of readability makes difficult content more
understandable. Photo atlas features more than 100 drawings and
photographs showing drug administration techniques. Dosages tables
summarize generic and trade names, pharmacologic class, normal
dosage ranges, and indications for the drugs. Learning features at
the beginning of each chapter include objectives and key terms, and
at the end of each chapter, key points, critical thinking
questions, review questions, and a list of resources available on
the Evolve website. QSEN coverage includes the use of human need
theory with human need statements, case studies featuring
collaboration and teamwork content, Preventing Medication Errors
boxes, and a discussion of the QSEN initiative as it relates to the
safety and quality of patient care. NEW! Updated drug content
reflects the latest FDA drug approvals, withdrawals, and
therapeutic uses, and includes updated nursing content.
When a hurricane jogs off course, quaint Pleasant Palms Trailer
Park isn't the only thing ripped apart. Right in front of Hester
Murphy's eyes is the unbearable evidence of who her husband Al
really is. As a young English teacher, Hester was drawn to sexy
Alexander Murphy like a moth to a flame. With her perception
clouded by lust and anxious to have a family of her own, Hester
overlooked the cracks in Al's veneer and committed herself to him.
Now the retired teacher begins to piece together the darkest of her
husband's secrets, while memories of her own transgressions are
driving her mad. She finds her only reprieve in her treasured
books, but sometimes even the words of her beloved writers are no
consolation. In the end, does Hester have the fortitude to bring
the scandalous facts about Al into the light of day, or will she
once again choose to the coward's way out and sweep yet another
horror under the carpet? A cautionary tale for young women, a song
of lament for women of experience, and an eye-opener for men, S.
Snyder-Carroll's debut novel, "On the Edge of Dangerous Things,"
boldly explores the psychology of shame, how it insidiously plagues
thoughts and goads even more appalling actions. Disgrace is a heavy
yoke for Hester to bear, and like the Hester in "The Scarlet
Letter," she tries to stoically accept her tribulations as just
punishment in hopes of earning God's forgiveness. But at the same
time she wants what every woman wants: to be loved by the man she
loves, to have it all come hell or high water...and that might just
be her undoing.
The NEXT propulsion system is an advanced ion propulsion system
presently under development that is oriented towards robotic
exploration of the solar system using solar electric power. The
Prototype Model engine PM1 was subjected to qualification-level
environmental testing to demonstrate compatibility with
environments representative of anticipated mission requirements.
Random vibration testing, conducted with the thruster mated to the
breadboard gimbal, was executed at 10.0 Grms for 2 minutes in each
of three axes. Thermal-vacuum testing included a deep cold soak of
the engine to temperatures of -168 C and thermal cycling from -120
to 203 C. Although the testing was largely successful, several
issues were identified including the fragmentation of potting
cement on the discharge and neutralizer cathode heater terminations
during vibration which led to abbreviated thermal testing, and
generation of particulate contamination from manufacturing
processes and engine materials. Thruster performance was nominal
throughout the test program, with minor variations in some engine
operating parameters likely caused by facility effects. In general,
the NEXT PM1 engine and the breadboard gimbal were found to be
well-designed against environmental requirements based on the
results reported herein. After resolution of the findings from this
test program the hardware environmental qualification program can
proceed with confidence.
