'You want me to have full penetrative sex with your son, right? I
just wanted to, you know, check.' Jack, a young man with a learning
disability, lives at home, cared for by his devoted parents. Like
most men in their twenties, he has needs - his mates at the rugby
club talk about nothing but getting laid, whilst Jack's most erotic
experience to date is the time he was winked at by the pretty
cashier in Lloyds. Desperate for their son to not feel left out,
his parents decide to bring in a professional. But the woman they
hire has a far more profound impact on the whole family than they
could ever have imagined. Written by up-and-coming writer Sarah
Page, this text has been published to coincide with Kuleshov
Theatre's 2017 production at Theatre503.
One Amulet. Two Gods. And the young girl in the center of it all.
Fala has never asked to be anything more than normal. She has only
ever wanted to make her way in the world. But now, in the face of
something far bigger than she is, she must pull together what
little she knows and find the true owner of the amulet before it is
too late. Rich in Egyptian mythology and full of excitement, The
Amulet is a fast paced adventure story.
Coco, Mari and Helena are The Sweethearts, a manufactured girl band
who are rarely off the front page of the tabloids. In need of some
positive publicity, they travel to Afghanistan to do a special gig
for the troops at Camp Bastion before the base is handed over to
Afghan officials. A group of battle weary soldiers, chosen to
protect these three beautiful celebrities, eagerly await their
arrival. But when there's an attack on the base, The Sweethearts
and the soldiers are thrown together and forced to wait it out in
very close quarters... Marking the first anniversary of the
departure of British Troops from Afghanistan after a thirteen-year
campaign and the deaths of 453 British service personnel, The
Sweethearts is a new play about the people we choose to make into
our heroes and how we tear them back down...
This book tackles poverty and policy issues in the UK by discussing
successful projects and practices, across lots of short chapters.
The first section provides a brief history overview of poverty in
the UK over the past two hundred years and discusses the question
of why the UK, as a wealthy western nation, still has a poverty
issue. It discusses various vulnerable groups and contextual
factors which lead to these inequalities. The second section
articulates what anti-poverty work is and shares project examples
from across the country where anti-poverty workers are supporting
people to survive and then to thrive. Lived experiences voices are
articulated to present examples of poverty being experienced. This
book draws on academic and practitioner work and aims to equip the
activist and inform the student, academic and policy maker.
