Immunoinformatics (Hardcover, 2008 Ed.): Christian Schoenbach, Shoba Ranganathan, Vladimir Brusic Immunoinformatics (Hardcover, 2008 Ed.)
Christian Schoenbach, Shoba Ranganathan, Vladimir Brusic
R4,379 Discovery Miles 43 790 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This is the first volume in a series that will be dedicated to publishing advances in immunomics particularly those focusing on systemic and integrative approaches in basic and clinical immunology, immunoinformatics, and immunologically relevant instrumentation and high-throughput screening methods.

Immunoinformatics utilizes mathematics, information science, computer engineering, genomics, proteomics and immunological methods to bridge immunology and informatics. Ten expert reviews introduce bioinformaticians and immunologists alike to successfully applied data-driven strategies in MHC, TCR, peptide-MHC and allergen research, epitope prediction, de-immunization of therapeutic proteins, host-pathogen interactions, modeling of immune responses to pathogens and large-scale chemical mutagenesis-driven genetic analyses systems. In contrast to existing books on immunoinformatics which emphasize epitope prediction this volume presents a cross-section of immunoinformatic research. The contributions show the interdisciplinarity of the field and how collaborative efforts among bioinformaticians and a oebench scientistsa result in innovative strategies towards understanding the immune system.

a oeImmunoinformaticsa is an ideal volume for scientists, researchers, students and professionals in the fields of Immunology, bioinformatics, microbiology, genetics, systems biology, biotechnology, computational biology.

Bioinformatics for Immunomics (Hardcover, 2010 ed.): Darren D. R. Flower, Matthew Davies, Shoba Ranganathan Bioinformatics for Immunomics (Hardcover, 2010 ed.)
Darren D. R. Flower, Matthew Davies, Shoba Ranganathan
R5,605 Discovery Miles 56 050 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Like many words, the term "immunomics" equates to different ideas contingent on context. For a brief span, immunomics meant the study of the Immunome, of which there were, in turn, several different definitions. A now largely defunct meaning rendered the Immunome as the set of antigenic peptides or immunogenic proteins within a single microorganism - be that virus, bacteria, fungus, or parasite - or microbial population, or antigenic or allergenic proteins and peptides derived from the environment as a whole, containing also proteins from eukaryotic sources. However, times have changed and the meaning of immunomics has also changed. Other newer definitions of the Immunome have come to focus on the plethora of immunological receptors and accessory molecules that comprise the host immune arsenal. Today, Immunomics or immunogenomics is now most often used as a synonym for high-throughput genome-based immunology. This is the study of aspects of the immune system using high-throughput techniques within a conc- tual landscape borne of both clinical and biophysical thinking.

Shoba Ranganathan, Kenta Nakai, Christian Schonbach
R50,900 Discovery Miles 509 000 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Encyclopedia of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology: ABC of Bioinformatics, Three Volume Set combines elements of computer science, information technology, mathematics, statistics and biotechnology, providing the methodology and in silico solutions to mine biological data and processes. The book covers Theory, Topics and Applications, with a special focus on Integrative -omics and Systems Biology. The theoretical, methodological underpinnings of BCB, including phylogeny are covered, as are more current areas of focus, such as translational bioinformatics, cheminformatics, and environmental informatics. Finally, Applications provide guidance for commonly asked questions. This major reference work spans basic and cutting-edge methodologies authored by leaders in the field, providing an invaluable resource for students, scientists, professionals in research institutes, and a broad swath of researchers in biotechnology and the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries.

Introduction to Bioinformatics (Paperback): Anna Tramontano Introduction to Bioinformatics (Paperback)
Anna Tramontano; Series edited by Louis J. Gross, Suzanne Lenhart, Philip K. Maini, Alison M. Etheridge, …
R2,480 Discovery Miles 24 800 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Guiding readers from the elucidation and analysis of a genomic sequence to the prediction of a protein structure and the identification of the molecular function, Introduction to Bioinformatics describes the rationale and limitations of the bioinformatics methods and tools that can help solve biological problems. Requiring only a limited mathematical and statistical background, the book shows how to efficiently apply these approaches to biological data and evaluate the resulting information.

The author, an expert bioinformatics researcher, first addresses the ways of storing and retrieving the enormous amount of biological data produced every day and the methods of decrypting the information encoded by a genome. She then covers the tools that can detect and exploit the evolutionary and functional relationships among biological elements. Subsequent chapters illustrate how to predict the three-dimensional structure of a protein. The book concludes with a discussion of the future of bioinformatics.

Even though the future will undoubtedly offer new tools for tackling problems, most of the fundamental aspects of bioinformatics will not change. This resource provides the essential information to understand bioinformatics methods, ultimately facilitating in the solution of biological problems.
