High in the Rockies, at an age when most are beginning to think of
retirement, Spike Hampson decided to build himself a boat and take
a long voyage. With little in the way of know-how and even less in
the way of resources, he constructed a small river boat, named her
Kobuk, and set off from Wyoming. His first attempt ended in
failure, but a few months later he tried again and this time found
success. Over the course of two summer seasons, he passed through
the continent and reached Prince Edward Island in Atlantic Canada.
The voyage covered nearly five thousand miles, the last thousand on
the open sea. This is his story. Solo voyagers are a different
breed, diehard individualists who tap into personal resources that
most of us don't realize we have. Going Home lets you see the world
through the eyes of such a person.
BAND-AIDS FOR PEACE has something for everyone's pain. It is not
all sad or all bad. It tells about realistic events from the cradle
to the grave. There are events that will make you laugh, such as
the sassy old lady in "Don't Mock Me Because I Am Old" and some
that will make you cry, such as understanding the reasons in the
"Nightmare of Birth Defects Through the Eyes of a Baby." No one
ever thinks of how the baby must feel who is born with birth
defects. Every passage will leave you with a lasting impression.
Some of the events are true stories of events witnessed by this
author that left an impression of how one man can be inhuman to
another. BAND-AIDS FOR PEACE has something for everyone's pain.
Many of the events have a poetic swing to them, but every event
tells a story. I attempted to give a message with each selection.
The selections are in no chronological order. Yet, they span
decades in a life of both joy and turmoil. You will find teens who
see their parents as old and out of date, babies in pain crying for
answers, and even men in prison who seek relief from the guilt they
carry inside. You will see the struggle with answers when a loved
one passes on and the joy of a couple in love. You will see images
captured during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita that devastated the
Gulf Coast region and left people homeless and crying for answers.
Then you will look into several religious selections for persons
involved in the church. BAND-AIDS FOR PEACE attempts to both
enlighten the reader and help to stimulate the mind in a search for
more answers about oneself.

In a world without wood, we might not be here at all. We
wouldn't have had the fire, heat, and shelter that allowed us to
expand into the planet's colder regions. If civilization somehow
did develop, our daily lives would be vastly different: there would
be no violins, baseball bats, chopsticks, or wine corks. The book
you are now holding wouldn't exist.
Spike Carlsen's A Splintered History of Wood is a grand
celebration of all things wooden and the characters who lovingly
shape them--eccentric artisans and passionate enthusiasts who have
created some of the world's most beloved musical instruments,
feared weapons, dazzling architecture, and bizarre forms of
transportation. From champion chainsaw carvers to blind
woodworkers, from the Miraculous Staircase to the Lindbergh
kidnapping case, here is a passionate, personal, amazingly
entertaining exploration of nature's greatest gift.

Spike Lee is a world-renowned, Academy Award-winning filmmaker, a
cultural icon, and one of the most prominent voices on race and
racism for more than three decades. His prolific career has
included over 35 films, including his directorial debut She's Gotta
Have It (1986), his seminal masterpiece Do the Right Thing (1989),
and more recently, his Oscar-winning film BlacKkKlansman (2018).
Spike Lee's provocative feature films, documentaries, commercials,
and music videos, have shone the spotlight on significant stories
and have made an indelible mark in both cinematic history and in
contemporary society. This career-spanning monograph titled SPIKE
is a visual celebration of his life and career to date. The custom
bold, typographic design is inspired by the LOVE/HATE brass rings
that Radio Raheem wore in Do the Right Thing and that Spike Lee
wore at the 2019 Academy Awards. The gold foil deboss on SPIKE on
the vibrant fuchsia front cover is a bold and beautiful,
eye-catching design. Featuring hundreds of never-before-seen
photographs by David Lee, Spike's brother and long-time still
photographer, SPIKE the book, includes behind-the-scenes, insider
images that underscore his creative process and his significant
impact on the culture at large. From his critically acclaimed film
Malcolm X (1992) starring Denzel Washington, to his recent film Da
5 Bloods (2020) featuring the late Chadwick Boseman, Spike Lee's
work continues to resonate now more than ever. Also included here
are his beloved commercials with Michael Jordan for Nike, which
helped launch the billion-dollar Jordan brand product empire, as
well as his music videos with Prince and Michael Jackson. This is a
must-have collector's item and ideal gift for any cinephile and fan
of one of the most prominent and influential filmmakers in history.
Silly Verse for Kids - a hilarious collection of silly poems by
Spike Milligan! A collection of the absurd, ridiculous, sublime and
characteristically anarchic verse from the brilliant Spike
Milligan. With his very own illustrations, this collection, which
includes the famous On the Ning Nang Nong will make you laugh from
the bottom of your belly - just like Spike did. The legendary and
iconic figure, Spike Milligan was born at Ahmednagar in India in
1918. He received his first education in a tent in the Hyderabad
Sindh desert and graduated from there, through a series of Roman
Catholic schools in India and England, to the Lewisham Polytechnic.
He then plunged into the world of Show Business, seduced by his
first stage appearance, at the age of eight, in the nativity play
of his Poona convent school. He began his career as a band
musician, but became famous as a humorous scriptwriter and actor in
both films and broadcasting. He was the creator, principal writer
and performer of the infamous Goon Show. Spike received an honorary
CBE in 1992 and Knighthood in 2000. He died in 2002. Other
children's books by Spike Milligan: Bald Twit Lion; Badjelly the
Witch; Dip the Puppy; Sir Nobonk and the Terrible Dreadful Awful

Stories and Poems; The Magical World of Milligan
Women and War in the Middle East provides a critical examination of
the relationship between gender and transnationalism in the context
of war, peace-building and post-conflict reconstruction in the
Middle East. Critically examining the ways in which the actions of
various local and transnational groups - including women's
movements, diaspora communities, national governments,
non-governmental actors and multilateral bodies - interact to both
intentionally and inadvertantly shape the experiences of women in
conflict situations, and determine the possibilities for women's
participation in peace-building and (post)-conflict reconstruction,
as well as the longer-term prospects for peace and security. The
volume pays particular attention to the ways in which gender roles,
relations and identities are constructed, negotiated and employed
within transnational social and political fields in the conflict
and post-conflict situations, and their particular consequences for
women. Contributions focus on the two countries with the longest
experiences of war and conflict in the Middle East, and which have
been subject to the most prominent international interventions of
recent years - that is, Iraq and the Occupied Palestinian
Territories. Issues addressed by contributors include the impact of
gender mainstreaming measures by international agencies and NGOs
upon the ability of women to participate in peace-building and
post-conflict resolution; the consequences for gender relations and
identities of the US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq; and how
transnational feminist movements can most effectively support peace
building and women's rights in the region. Based entirely on
original empirical research. Women and War in the Middle East
brings together some of the foremost scholars in the areas of
feminist international relations, feminist international political
economy, anthropology, sociology, history and Middle East studies.

Guardian Milligan is the Great God to all of us -- John Cleese The
Godfather of Alternative Comedy -- Eddie Izzard That absolutely
glorious way of looking at things differently. A great man --
Stephen Fry Manifestly a genius, a comic surrealist genius and had
no equal -- Terry Wogan A totally original comedy writer -- Michael
Palin 'At Victoria station the R.T.O. gave me a travel warrant, a
white feather and a picture of Hitler marked This is your enemy. I
searched every compartment, but he wasn't on the train ...' In
this, the first of Spike Milligan's uproarious recollections of
life in the army, our hero takes us from the outbreak of war in
1939 ('it must have been something we said'), through his attempts
to avoid enlistment ('time for my appendicitus, I thought') and his
gunner training in Bexhill ('There was one drawback. No
ammunition') to the landing at Algiers in 1943 ('I closed my eyes
and faced the sun. I fell down a hatchway'). Filled with bathos,
pathos and gales of ribald laughter, this is a barely sane helping
of military goonery and superlative Milliganese.
Award-winning actor, rapper, and producer Ice-T unveils a
compelling memoir of his early life robbing jewelry stores until he
found fame and fortune—while a handful of bad choices sent his
former crime partner down an incredibly different path. Ice-T rose
to fame in the late 1980s, earning acclaim for his music before
going on to enthrall television audiences as Odafin “Fin”
Tutuola in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. But it
could have gone much differently. In this “poignant and
powerful” (Library Journal, starred review) memoir, Ice-T and
Spike, his former crime partner—collaborating with New York
Times bestselling author Douglas Century—relate the
shocking stories of their shared pasts, and how just a handful of
decisions led to their incredibly different lives. Both grew up in
violent, gang-controlled Los Angeles neighborhoods and worked
together to orchestrate a series of jewelry heists. But while Ice-T
was discovered rapping in a club and got his first record deal,
Spike was caught for a jewelry robbery and did three years in
prison. As his music career began to take off, Ice made the
decision to abandon the criminal life; Spike continued to plan
increasingly ingenious and risky jewel heists. And in 1992, after
one of Spike’s robberies ended tragically, he was sentenced to
thirty-five years to life. While he sat behind bars, he watched his
former partner rise to fame in music, movies, and television.
“Propulsive” (Publishers Weekly, starred review), timely, and
thoughtful, two men with two very different lives reveal how their
paths might have very well been reversed if they made different
choices. All it took was a split decision.
