Report on a major rescue excavation of a Late Bronze Age waterfront
site with exceptional preservation of deposits buried under the
flood silts of the Thames. This volume analyses the stratigraphy,
structural evidence and finds from a part of the site that included
the foundations of a Late Bronze Age enclosure stockade set in the
edge of a contemporary river channel. The well preserved
environmental evidence provides a detailed picture of developments
in the local environment; a concluding discussion looks at the
nature of the settlements in terms of roles, contacts and status.
This is the first of several volumes on the excavations that this
discovery has initiated.
