The Last Exit is a book of poetry by Terrence Davis. The book relays thoughts and feelings on falling in and out of love with life and personal relationships. Davis uses his unique voice to unapologetically question the meaning of love and the value we place on it. His raw and challenging way of making readers look inside themselves and discover the truth will leave them wanting more. Throughout the book it is clear that he is of the new generation of poets who are honest and raw. He challenges people to think about topics that we often wish not to discuss. In the poem "Resting Heart Rate" it is clear by the tone of the poem that you are in for a ride that you won't forget where he states "My doctor says I will never get over you/I still name my past, present and future after you/my hopes and dreams planned out for you/a line in the sand in a desert with a coffin lying next to you"- through the juxtaposition readers will understand the path Davis has been on and why it is important for everyone to free themselves if love equates to the feeling of death. It is clear from the start that no epigraphs are needed. The Last Exit is a sharp new look at the other side of love that we dare not speak of and reads like a blueprint on how to recover from losing love for life, relationships and one's self.
