The series Mi Sangre by Roj Rodriguez started as a photo
documentation of a personal journey to retrace his Mexican heritage
and has evolved into a fine art project aimed at highlighting
Mexican culture on both sides of the US/Mexico border. It documents
everyday aspects of Mexican life, the culture and popular
iconography, both as they exist in Mexico and as reimagined by
Mexican Americans in the US. With each of the subjects portrayed,
Roj Rodriguez engaged in sometimes casual, sometimes insightful
conversations. Mi Sangre includes proud and elegant charros,
beautiful and skilled escaramuzas, joyful and coy children, wise
and innocent elders, vibrant and talented mariachi musicians,
loving and welcoming families, and even fine art re-interpretations
of Loteria iconography.
This book is about emotion allowing readers feel, imagine and
contemplate a life that isn't their own. Poetry in it's greatest
form is brought out from secrets held close and those moments we
all wished gone. There are poems for everyone and some you can
relate to, be life mistakes or a loved one no longer there.
Understand that the words bound to these pages have only been for
my eyes, though some shown on Writers Cafe to friendly poets now
passes to the world. As the reader will see sadness, joy and love,
find hope in dark times. Now I open the doors to an unspoken voice,
each scream that resides deep in this soul welcomes everyone.
Let's say you're a corgi, you know, like the dogs Queen Elizabeth
loves. And one back leg is paralyzed, so you use a wheelchair to
get around. And let's say your owners, your primaries, think it
would be ever so nice to go to London for a week. Sounds nice, if
we overlook the paralysis part, right? But then let's say the plane
you're on crashes over the Atlantic and you have to swim for it.
Now what? Well if you're a really special corgi you'll endure
burning aircraft, three-legged swimming in icy waters, and vicious
seagulls before you drift to Brighton Beach and then to Buckingham
Palace to become known the world over as Oceandog. Translated from
the computer program DOGSPEAK, The Kindness of Strangers tells
Winnie's story directly from her point of view, spotlighting her
ability to overcome the problems associated with paralysis, loss of
a parent, extreme attention from the world media, and the awareness
of her lack of ego and superego. Winnie's unique adventure will
please the entire family with her comments on food, other dogs, and
what it's like to live with humans.
