In addition to winning the 2009 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for her path-breaking research on "economic governance, especially the commons," Elinor (Lin) Ostrom also made important contributions to other fields of political economy and public policy. This four-volume compendium of papers written by Lin (often with coauthors, most notably her husband, Vincent), along with papers by others expanding on her work, brings together the strands of her entire empirical, analytical, theoretical, and methodological research program. Together with Vincent's important theoretical contributions, they defined a distinctive "Bloomington School" of political-economic thought. Volume 3 collects explores the historical development of the Institutional Analysis and Development (IAD) framework, illustrates its application to a wide range of specific policy problems, and highlights recent extensions that ensure it will remain a vibrant focus of research for years to come. The IAD framework emerged from a long series of interdisciplinary collaborative research projects, but the guiding figure in its development was Elinor Ostrom. Anyone familiar with the full range of her research will recognize common presuppositions and themes for which she used the IAD framework as an organizing device. This book collects examples of policy-relevant applications of IAD to a wide range of policy sectors. In a fundamental sense, the IAD framework helps us understand how Ostrom's mind worked when she approached a particular problem of policy, and it highlights those factors that she asserted needed to be considered in any complete analysis. Unfortunately, she did not leave us a complete or definitive guidebook on how to apply this framework. This volume collects important components of such a guidebook from a wide range of sources, including previously unpublished papers, and as such it should help anyone seeking to use this framework to analyze a variety of policy areas.

Pat Evans parachuted into German-occupied Northern Greece in September 1943. His mission as a SOE operative was to support the Greek resistance movement, carry out sabotage and commando operations and gather military intelligence. By this time Greece was not only a country ravaged by a brutal occupation but being torn apart by fending political factions on the edge of civil war. Evans had to walk a tight-rope between the Germans, the Communist -directed ELAS, Macedonia irredentists and his own SOE masters in Cairo and Allied High Command. After the Nazis withdrew in late 1944, he was sent to Northern Greece to try and restore some form of normality amid the chaos of civil war. His success can be measured by the warmth in which the locals still remember him, over 70 years on. This book draws on a wide range of sources, including SOE and War Cabinet papers but it is Pat Evans' unpublished letters and reports that give the reader an insight into the challenge that he faced, both operationally and politically. The result is a thrilling and informative book.
Sarah & Dipity is about an adventurous, unpredictable and super-energetic tomboy, and her inexperienced, insecure, and incredibly in-over-his-head guardian angel. Although Sarah cannot see Dipity, she knows that he is always there looking after her. She never misses an opportunity to make sure that Dipity is on his toes. This leaves Dipity feeling somewhat frazzled, often to the point where he doubts his abilities as a guardian angel. He never gives up though, no matter how discouraged he may feel. Just when he thinks he can't go on, Sarah reminds him just how important he is to her.
This We Are is the sequel to This We Know. This We Are explores what we are, where we came from and where we might be heading. Perhaps unlike any other species on the planet, we have the ability and 'smarts' to influence our own evolution and future. This doesn't necessarily require manipulation of our DNA - although this may be one mechanism we utilise. Merely by thinking and using our imagination, we can change our course. This We Are is as much a celebration as who and what we are as humans as it is a polemic. It's brevity belies its depth. Like This We Know it is a clarion call to each person on this special planet to live the most magnificent life they can. The Postscript 2213 is literally out of this world. "A super read as Tom does it again Another thought provoking and very interesting book, the second in this series and I hope not the last."

Planes of Being continues the author's mission to take the esoteric and make it exoteric. There are deep and rich seams of ancient and arcane knowledge which are often thought to be merely mythological in their nature and neither relevant or applicable to our modern day lives. Examples might include the I Ching, the Tree of Life or indeed the good old Bible. In Flavours of Thought, Tom showed how the Major Arcana of the Tarot could be deconstructed to allow all of us to access the wisdom contained within it. With a natural and enquiring engineering mind, he then concocted Recipes from groups of flavours to solve common malaises, capitalise on opportunities and to give enlightenment into our nature. Tom dusted off years of 'Chinese Whispers', got right down to the true core meaning of each card in the Tarot and explained each in an easily digestible manner. The message in the book is simple - by understanding and controlling our thoughts, we control and co-create what we think of as the reality around us. Planes of Being uses the same principles and approach to take the lid off the 56 cards in the Minor Arcana. Again, the book doesn't focus on the meanings, symbology and metaphors of the specific imagery in any particular set of cards. Rather it exposes the original meanings of the structure and numerology of the deck. As for Flavours of Thought, Tom aims are non-academic and non-theoretical. Planes of Being gives us a practical, real world tool we can use to answer and gain insight on absolutely any question we can think of. In short, it teaches each of us how, by tuning in, we can each become Wayseers, Magicians and Oracles. It also gives some clues as to the future of our evolution as we edge closer to a state called the Merged Mind.
This is a book about knowing and what it means to know. We don't give our knowledge a second thought yet some of us would bet considerable amounts of money on what we know. We are proud of our retention of facts. Pub quizzes and TV quiz shows thrive on this seemingly basic desire. We would swear on a bible that the Sun will set and rise each day. In fact, the Sun stays relatively static as the Earth rotates on its axis giving the illusion of sunset and sunrise. We know, for a fact, that we know more things than our predecessors. By inference, our descendants will know more than us yet again. In a hundred years time, they may even smile lovingly at our innocence and naivety. Knowing there is an infinity of things yet to know is one of the key tenets of our knowledge. This book is a purposely short exploration into what we know, what we don't know and how to open up the floodgates to acquiring even more knowledge. In this way, without throwing the baby out with the bathwater, humanity can evolve from its current state into a very Bright Future indeed. This We Know. "Yet another stunning though exploration by a master of his art. Just the sort of thinking we need right now."
This book is a book of transformation. We go about our days not giving our thoughts a second thought. This is a real shame as our thoughts fundamentally changes the world around us. In Part 1 Flavours of Thought, our thoughts processes are divided into groups of three, namely Ethereal Whispers, Unconscious Murmurs and Directives. Each group is then further divided into seven flavours. By thinking about our each of our thoughts as having one of these 21 flavours, a transformation happens. We start to realise we are not a slave to them anymore and they will yield to our will and direction. Part 11 of the book, Recipes for Fresh Thinking, then shows how these 21 flavours can be combined into 21 sample recipes (there are billions of permutations) to tackle common issues like self-anger all the way through to finding your soul path. The simplicity of this book belies its power as it is crafted from ancient wisdom but in a modern context. "This book is intrinsically simple. Simple to read; simple to understand; simple to apply. Its simplicity is what makes it genius."
