Wiccan Cuisine is a recipe deck for all who want to capture the
magic of cooking and baking. Presented in a beautiful box with an
accompanying instructional booklet, there are 50 recipe cards for
savoury meals and sweet treats inspired by the Wheel of the Year.
Perfect for aspiring kitchen and hearth witches, this deck makes it
easy to add new magical meals to every menu. Using seasonal
ingredients, there are recipes for both the mid-week supper and the
festival feast with suggestions for how to celebrate the passing of
the seasons with family and friends. The relationship between magic
and food is long-standing and celebrated here along with the
connection to nature. The recipes included are all designed to be
changed or modified to fit different needs, tastes and intuitions
with the author and kitchen witch Carla Torrents encouraging users
of the deck to get it messy - the robust cards and box can
withstand the heat and spills of a busy kitchen countertop! The
accompanying booklet provides excellent tips and tricks, as well as
practical information about weight conversions between imperial and
metric measurements, and introduces the Wheel of the Year.
Internationally minded, the dates of festivals and Sabbats are
given for both northern and southern hemisphere witches so everyone
can start making magic in the kitchen.
The fitness sector is a growing economy where suppliers, managers
and consumers are in continuously evolving relationships, and in
which technology plays a key role in optimization. The Digital
Transformation of the Fitness Sector highlights the challenges and
opportunities of digitalization uncovered in the wake of recent
global challenges in countries around the world. The innovations
that have arisen during the COVID-19 pandemic have led to a digital
transformation of sports services: facilitating interactions
between trainers and consumers, establishing social media as a
means of boosting a sector already witnessing great growth, and
organising exercise spaces. Yet, as explored by the authors in this
edited collection, disparities in accessibility to economic and
digital resources that enable digitalization vary depending on the
providers, the managers, and the geographical situation facing the
organization. With contributions from leading academics and
professionals, The Digital Transformation of the Fitness Sector is
an excellent read for all practitioners working in fitness
technologies, sports marketing, sports management, researchers, and
students.
A master class in relationship repair and connection. At its core,
this book delivers an inconvenient truth. Our relationships have to
be a daily practice if we want them to thrive. We should treat them
like we treat anything that we want to succeed, by giving them time
and attention. For far too long it has been assumed that we should
innately understand how to love one another. Relationships have
fallen into the category of things we should know how to do. But we
are not born knowing how to make a relationship work, any more than
we are born knowing how to file taxes or buy insurance, and there
are no classes in high school or college that teach us how to do
this. The Practice of Love is that class. In his work, Lair
Torrent, a licensed marriage and family therapist, brings together
concepts and tools that can actually help couples heal for the long
haul. Diving beneath the symptoms most therapies focus on, he helps
couples develop a deeper understanding of the wounds that brought
them together and how they show up in their relationships. The 5
Practices gives the reader an opportunity to weed out and take
responsibility for limiting or negative habits while allowing them
to learn and adopt new and healthier practices with their partner.
These are not short-term solutions, but rather a path to profound
healing, deeper connection, and stronger, happier relationships.
Durability and service life design of concrete constructions have
considerable socio-economic and environmental consequences, in
which the permeability of concrete to aggressive intruders plays a
vital role. Concrete Permeability and Durability Performance
provides deep insight into the permeability of concrete, moving
from theory to practice, and presents over 20 real cases, such as
Tokyo's Museum of Western Art, Port of Miami Tunnel and Hong
Kong-Zhuhai-Macao sea-link, including field tests in the Antarctic
and Atacama Desert. It stresses the importance of site testing for
a realistic durability assessment and details the "Torrent Method"
for non-destructive measurement of air-permeability. It also
delivers answers for some vexing questions: Should the coefficient
of permeability be expressed in m(2) or m/s? How to get a "mean"
pore radius of concrete from gas-permeability tests? Why should
permeability preferably be measured on site? How can service life
of reinforced concrete structures be predicted by site testing of
gas-permeability and cover thickness? Practitioners will find
stimulating examples on how to predict the coming service life of
new structures and the remaining life of existing structures, based
on site testing of air-permeability and cover thickness.
Researchers will value theoretical principles, testing methods, as
well as how test results reflect the influence of concrete mix
composition and processing.
This book unfolds an exploratory journey intended to scrutinise the
suitability of entanglements and relations as a mode of thinking
and seeing peacebuilding events. Through a reflection upon the UN's
limited results in the endeavour towards securing lasting peace in
war-torn scenarios, Torrent critically engages with three relevant
debates in contemporary peacebuilding literature, including the
inclusion of 'the locals', the achievement of organisational
system-wide coherence and the increasingly questioned agential
condition of peacebuilding actors. Inattentive to the relational
vulnerability of involved stakeholders, it is suggested that the UN
seeks to secure a totalising modern distory, defined in the book as
a story that undoes other stories. Whilst affirming the entangled
ontogenesis of actors and processes in the conflict-affected
configuration, Entangled Peace also delves into a cautionary
argument about what the author refers to as entanglement fetishism,
namely the celebratory, normative, deterministic and exclusionary
projection of a relational world. Inspired by Alfred North
Whitehead, Entangled Peace is an invitation to speculate over the
peacebuilding milieu, and by extension the broader theatre of the
real, as radical openness, in which events emanate from the
collision of an infinite multiplicity of possible worlds.
Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union? Is
the Commonwealth of Nations still relevant for its very diverse
member states, ranging from small island states to Australia and
India? In contemporary British politics, both organisations have
come under fierce criticism, sometimes leading to hasty assessments
of historical experiences and current policies. Given the fact that
the United Kingdom, Cyprys and Malta are members of both
organisations, and that 'Brexit' would have far-ranging
consequences much beyond British shores, relations between the EU
and the Commonwealth have featured surprisingly rarely in major
debates of international policy. This edited volume suggests
possible - and even desirable - connections between the two
organisations by investing current contacts, fault lines, external
critique and outside perspectives. Focusing on soft power,
development, humanitarianism and modes of intervention, the authors
investigate disputes over international norms and trade patterns.
Through global approaches and specific case studies drawn from
Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, they demonstrate where
opportunities for international cooperation were missed and how
useful partnerships might be found. The EU and the Commonwealth are
undoubtedly very different organisations but distinctions can
provide grounds for meaningful, relevant cooperation. More
strategic dialogue between the Commonwealth and the EU, this volume
agues, would be a valuable asset for the two international
organisations, their member states and their citizens. This book
was originally published as a special issue of The Round Table: The
Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs.

Heroines save the day in this empowering collection of folktales from around the world, perfect for fans of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls.
Curses to be broken. Riddles to be solved. Kings' favor to be won. These are the standard stories we've heard in folktales and fables for as long as we can remember--challenges faced and overcome by princes and knights in shining armor. In Folktales for Fearless Girls, though, we see a different set of heroes charge across the page. In fact, we see heroines.
Wily women and clever girls, valiant queens and brave villagers--these are the people to save the day in this collection of folktales from around the world and across the ages. Long before J.K. Rowling brought us Hermione Granger, well before Katniss Everdeen entered the arena, these fierce protagonists were the role models for strong girls through the ages. Here we read the story of Jimena, who dresses like a man to go fight in a war; of Min, whose cleverness leads her family to riches; and of Nabiha, who outsmarts thieves and wins the respect of the king. With stories from China, Russia, Persia, India, Armenia, the UK, Spain, France, Southern Africa, Egypt, and Germany, this is a collection of tales that showcases the original literary feminists.
With beautiful full-color art throughout to accompany these empowering tales, this an essential book for all girls!
Advances in Soil Science was conceived in 1982 to provide a forum
for leading international scientists to analyze and summarize the
available scientific information on a subject, assessing its
importance and ident ifying additional research needs. This goal
seems even more appropriate today. Much is known about our soil
resources. The principles learned and the technology developed need
to be used to increase food pro duction, particularly in developing
countries, and sustain the productivity of the resource base.
Advances in Soil Science fills a gap between the scientific
journals and the comprehensive reference books. Scientists can
delve in depth on a particular subject relating to soil science.
Contributors are asked in particular to develop and identify
principles that have practical applications to both developing and
developed agricultures. Advances in Soil Science was established to
be international in scope and cover all subjects relating to soil
science. This volume certainly fulfills that objective. The first
chapter is concerned with denitrification. The significance of
denitrification in nitrogen use efficiency in agricultural,
grassland, and forest ecosystems, and in global nitrogen cycling is
now well recognized. Therefore, an understanding of denitrification
is essential for the efficient use of nitrogen fertilizers and for
protecting the environ ment. The second chapter looks at the
effects of subzero temperatures on the physical, biological, and
chemical processes. This is an important area of soil science that
has not been studied in great detail."

New essays by noted authorities on music and related arts in early
modern Italy, giving special attention to musical sources, poetry,
performance, and visual arts. The rich cultural environment of
early modern Italy inspired a vast array of musical innovations:
this was the first age of the virtuoso performer, the era that
witnessed the beginnings of opera, and a moment that saw the
intersection and cross-fertilization of madrigals and songs of all
sorts. Word, Image, and Song: Essays on Early Modern Italy presents
a broad range of approaches to the study of music and related arts
in that era. Topics include musical source studies, issues of
performance, poetry and linguistics, influences on music from the
classical tradition, and the interconnectedness of music and visual
art. Their points of departure include well-known musical workssuch
as Monteverdi's madrigals, librettos of seventeenth-century operas,
the poetry of Giambattista Marino, and the paintings of Titian and
his contemporaries. Contributors: Jennifer Williams Brown, Mauro
