D-Lister Top_Gorilla17 comes the first volume of his tales of scum,
villainy, and perhaps if you buy him enough slippery nipples, a bit
of ribaldry! Behold this whimsical and disturbing peek into the
psyche of the self-described Emperor of Iowa, and his many
adventures, most of which really happened! Bear literary witness to
the time he farted on a duly elected government official! Chortle
with rapturous glee as he recounts the time he broke all ten of the
commandments of the Hebrew God! Shift your weight uncomfortably as
you find out, quite against your will, precisely what he means by
the phrase 'Hot dogging'! So don't be caught in that airplane
lavatory reading yet another Dan Patterson novel, you weenie!
Instead, read the critically-ignored 'Top Gorilla's Tales Of Scum
And Villainy,' which Top_Gorilla's girlfriend was heard describing
as "Pretty good, I guess."

How can people master their own thoughts, feelings, and actions?
This question is central to the scientific study of
self-regulation. The behavioral side of self-regulation has been
extensively investigated over the last decades, but the biological
machinery that allows people to self-regulate has mostly remained
vague and unspecified. "Handbook of Biobehavioral Approaches to
Self-Regulation "corrects this imbalance. Moving beyond traditional
mind-body dualities, the various contributions in the book examine
how self-regulation becomes established in cardiovascular,
hormonal, and central nervous systems. Particular attention is
given to the dynamic interplay between affect and cognition in
self-regulation. The book also addresses the psychobiology of
effort, the impact of depression on self-regulation, the
development of self-regulation, and the question what causes
self-regulation to succeed or fail. These novel perspectives
provide readers with a new, biologically informed understanding of
self-awareness and self-agency. Among the topics being covered are:
Self-regulation in an evolutionary perspective. The muscle metaphor
in self-regulation in the light of current theorizing on muscle
physiology. From distraction to mindfulness: psychological and
neural mechanisms of attention strategies in
self-regulation.Self-regulation in social decision-making: a
neurobiological perspective.Mental effort: brain and autonomic
correlates in health and disease.A basic and applied model of the
body-mind system.
"Handbook of Biobehavioral Approaches to Self-Regulation
"provides a wealth of theoretical insights into self-regulation,
with great potential for future applications for improving
self-regulation in everyday life settings, including education,
work, health, and interpersonal relationships. The book highlights
a host of exciting new ideas and directions and is sure to provoke
a great deal of thought and discussion among researchers,
practitioners, and graduate-level students in psychology,
education, neuroscience, medicine, and behavioral economics."
This book is an encounter between Deleuze the philosopher, Proust
the novelist, and Beckett the writer creating interdisciplinary and
inter-aesthetic bridges between them, covering textual, visual,
sonic and performative phenomena, including provocative speculation
about how Proust might have responded to Deleuze and Beckett.
Sue Topping graduated from the EnergyTouch School of Advanced
Healing in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is a certified practitioner
as well as a Reiki Master, and a graduate of the Healer Development
Program in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Sue's journey through her son's years of illness led her along
conventional medical pathways as well as unconventional ones. Her
experiences led her to broaden her sense of the spiritual aspects
of healing and her quest in lifelong learning led her to the steps
of EnergyTouch School of Advance Healing.
Sue shares her story of struggles, fear, trust, triumph, and
insightful wisdom with her readers in the hope they will recognize
the presence of the Divine within their own lives and learn to
trust that connection.
This volume and its companion volume includes the edited versions
of the principal lectures and selected papers presented at the NATO
Advanced Study Institute on Optimization and Decision Support
Systems in Civil Engineering. The Institute was held in the
Department of Civil Engineering at Heriot-Watt University,
Edinburgh from June 25th to July 6th 1989 and was attended by
eighty participants from Universities and Research Institutes
around the world. A number of practising civil and structural
engineers also attended. The lectures and papers have been divided
into two volumes to reflect the dual themes of the Institute namely
Optimization and Decision Support Systems in Civil Engineering.
Planning for this ASI commenced in late 1986 when Andrew Templeman
and I discussed developments in the use of the systems approach in
civil engineering. A little later it became clear that much of this
approach could be realised through the use of knowledge-based
systems and artificial intelligence techniques. Both Don Grierson
and John Gero indicated at an early stage how important it would be
to include knowledge-based systems within the scope of the
Institute. The title of the Institute could have been: 'Civil
Engineering Systems' as this would have reflected the range of
systems applications to civil engineering problems considered by
the Institute. These volumes therefore reflect the full range of
these problems including: structural analysis and design; water
resources engineering; geotechnical engineering; transportation and
environmental engineering.
