Recent estimates (Hallahan & Kauffman, 1978) indicate that over 4. 7 million children, 7.3% of the child population under the age of 19, are labeled emotionally disturbed, mentally retarded, or learning-disabled. Moreover, many of these children remain unserved or are inadequately served. The past decade has produced an increasing concern with the mental health needs of these children and their families. This trend had as much impact in behavior therapy as it did in any other branch of the helping professions. Behavioral work with children, with its emphasis on skill development and environmental modification, helped to build into child psychotherapy a true preventive mental health orientation. The ease of delivery and application of behavioral procedures allowed parents and other caregivers to become meaningfully involved in the clinical process, and so facilitated therapy gains and the maintenance and generalization of those gains. Perhaps the most significant change in behavior therapy in the 1970s was the move beyond interventions derived strictly from learning theories to applications based on knowledge from a variety of psycho logical research areas. The cognitive mediational activities of the client have received special attention, and this book presents the conceptual, methodological, and clinical issues in contemporary cognitive behavior therapy with children."

The essential problem in entrepreneurship is improving the performance of entrepreneurs. The most important theories will be the ones that most enable us to predict and then ultimately influence entrepreneurial performance. This book develops a new and more accurate theory of entrepreneurial performance based in entrepreneurial creativity. The field of entrepreneurship has a long tradition of expecting entrepreneurial performance to be influenced by creativity, tracing back even before the pioneering work of Joseph Schumpeter (1883 to 1950), who defined entrepreneurship as creative-destruction-creating the new by supplanting or destroying the old. Subsequently, psychologist Robert Sternberg defined creativity as broadly encompassing creative aspects of personality, motivation, intellect, thinking style and relevant knowledge. Using Sternberg's definition of creativity, the authors reviewed the evidence directly linking entrepreneurial creativity and entrepreneurial performance, concluding that the linkage is both statistically and practically significant. In order to scientifically tie entrepreneurship to creativity the book pursues a number of major objectives: In parts one and two, the authors remind us of our scientific challenge in the light of the depressing levels of performance typically to be found in the real world of entrepreneurship and explores the limitations of the dominant paradigms driving research in the field of entrepreneurship today. In part three, they bring together existing evidence to demonstrate the predictive and explanatory powers of creativity in relation to entrepreneurship. In part four, they further explore correlations between creativity and entrepreneurial performance at the individual and macro or society, levels. In summary, the book offers a bold predictive theory linking entrepreneurial creativity to entrepreneurial performance, however neither as boldly as a definitional linkage nor as timidly as one in a hundred or so factors potentially explaining entrepreneurial performance. This result is a general scientific theory that offers a serious challenge to entrepreneurial scholars who are pursuing other means for understanding the causality of entrepreneurial performance.

What is my motivation for this social commentary? I might commence with the notion that my reasons are altruistic, but that would not be totally true. I might add that I am driven vindictively to attack some institutions and their representatives --maybe. Or, I just want to sell books and become affluent --to a degree this is true, but not the whole story Let's look at altruism. I do dream of having the money to donate to my favorite causes. I am fascinated with the world of news presented by Al Jazeera, European Journal, Newsline, National Public Radio, and British Broadcasting Corporation. The news from these sources is not the Newsglib (chatty exchanges) between newsreaders or the Glamor Political Opinion Forum that consists of commentary espoused by men, who may or may not be attractive, and by attractive, well heeled females. These newsreaders have connections to a political movement and parrot the party line from Fox News on the right or MSNBC on the left. I find the news more credible if the newsreader looks like someone I know: sans cosmetics for the studio lights. The stories from Al Jazeera or the BBC expose world conditions that evoke strong responses. There is war close up; children starving in Syria; women and children being raped by soldiers in the never ending African conflicts. Inasmuch, I am driven by altruism to set up educational funds for the children of Africa, especially Somalia, Mali, and the Congo. I would try to help the women of Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the Muslim/Taliban world arrive at some type of self-actualization. It must be terrible knowing that you live in a world of determinism: your life is planned by the social and religious structures.
