The Major Companies directories provide quality company information
on the leading businesses worldwide. These directories are packed
with essential facts and contacts, including address, phone and fax
numbers; e-mail and Web addresses; listings of a company's
activities, parents, subsidiaries and agents, brands and
trademarks; and financial information for the previous two years.
When students, job candidates, business executives, historians and
investors need accurate and detailed information on the development
of any of the world's largest and most influential companies,
direct them to International Directory of Company Histories. This
multi-volume work is the first major reference to bring together
histories of companies that are a leading influence in a particular
industry or geographic location.
In four volumes, this reference book brings together a wide range
of hard-to-locate data to answer questions concerning American
cities. Each volume focuses on a different geographic region:
South, West, Midwest and Northeast. Within each volume, you'll find
thorough coverage of the area's largest or fastest-growing cities,
or those with a particular historical, political, industrial or
commercial significance. This updated edition answers questions
concerning 189 American cities, 11 cities new to this edition.
Directory, bibliography information and illustrations round out
each entry.

Sigmar Polke (born 1941) recently completed a series of 12 windows
for the Grossmunster cathedral in Zurich, setting new standards for
the mutual relationship between art and church. One group of seven
Romanesque windows shows luminous mosaics of thinly sliced agate,
some of it artificially colored, to produce pulsating blocks of
back-lit color. Says Marina Warner, "The interior of rocks opens
not only on unexpected colors... on once imprisoned now
scintillating rays and gleams, but it also tunnels into the past,
into the distant past of geological and cosmological millennia."
For the remaining five windows, Polke designed images of figures
from the Old Testament, based on medieval illuminations, which have
themselves undergone transformation in the course of their long
journey through time. Polke's figures now appear as radiantly
contemporary icons created in colored glass, using a variety of
traditional and customized techniques devised especially for this
project.

Each three- to five-page entry is meticulously detailed with facts
gathered from popular magazines, academic periodicals, books,
annual reports and the archives of the companies themselves.
Entries provide information on founders, expansions and losses,
labor/management actions, NAICS codes, key dates, ticker symbol,
principal subsidiaries, principal divisions, principal operating
units, principle competitors and other significant milestones --
all peppered with statistics, dates and names of key players.
