Sunspot is a thought-provoking, humourous look at the relationship between dogs and their astrological signs. Be it a determined Aries, stubborn Taurus, spaced-out Gemini, melodramatic Cancer, kingly Leo, orderly Virgo, balanced Libra, intense Scorpio, enthusiastic Sagittarius, sure-footed Capricorn, curious Aquarius, or devoted Pices - the sign under which your dog was born can at least partly explain the reasons for its behaviour. The idea for Sunspot started as a joke when a friend complained to Laurie Birnsteel that her dog hated change. When asked if her dog was born in May, the friend replied yes. That's why, Birnsteel replied. Your dog is a Taurus, and Tauruses hate change. Thus began more than two years of research - including hundreds of questionnaires and interviews with dog owners - into the relationships of dogs and their signs - more specifically, how their astrological signs affect their behaviour. Each sign has its own chapter in Sunspot. Beginning with lists of the good doggy and bad doggy characteristics for each, Birnsteel proceeds to offer real-life examples of dogs behaving in ways consistent with their signs. At the end of the book, the questionnaires that pet owners completed are included. Whether you've lived, loved, laughed, or cried over a dog, this book is for you
From award-winning author and artist Kris Waldherr, The Goddess Tarot is an indispensable guide to the language of mythical imagery and ancient myth in the Goddess Tarot deck. Complete with the striking 78-card deck, this set is an essential tool of empowerment, personal growth, and inner transformation for women everywhere. Includes custom, full-color spread sheet.
In late fifteenth century Florence, Renaissance humanists rediscovered a secret, natural language hidden in the visual wisdom of the proverb 'the eyes are the windows of the soul'. Through its magical prism, the language of eyes, faces, voices, laughs, walks, even stones, plants and animals, all became windows into the souls of other people, of oneself, of nature, and ultimately of God. Some saw in its words the perfect hieroglyphic language by which Adam had first named nature, which, when combined with the art of memory, could bring about a form of 'inner writing' or mystical self-transformation. Yet many others dismissed it as a collection of arbitrary conventions, superstitious enigmas, or 'gypsy' riddles. Embroiled in the religious persecution of the Reformation, rejected as a science during the Scientific Revolution, in the age of Enlightenment physiognomy came to be seen as nothing more than an amusing entertainment. But with the dawn of Romanticism, be it in the realms of science, religion, or poetry, some began to see that physiognomy was no game and the flame of serious interest in physiognomy was once again rekindled. Combining book history and visual history, Dr Porter reconstructs this physiognomical eye, interprets the way in which books on physiognomy were read and traces the wider intellectual, social, and cultural changes that contributed to the metamorphosis of this way of beholding oneself and the natural world from the Renaissance to the dawn of Romanticism.

"An elegant and comprehensive critical edition of the Dao De Jing." KIRKUS Review This book examines one of the world's most enduring and influential literary works through the timeless art of qigong. In his words, Lao Tzu (or Laozi), author of the Dao De Jing, embodies qigong principles, advocating the cultivation of mind and body. Only when we know qigong can we know Lao Tzu-and only when we know Lao Tzu can we know the Dao De Jing. Lao Tzu's writing has been read, translated, and discussed around the globe. It deals with principles that transcend time and culture. That is why this ancient text has been reimagined countless times in books on business, relationships, and parenting-but never with a focus on the art of qigong. This makes the Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation unique and indispensible. Many chapters in the Dao De Jing purely talk about qigong, especially the practices of regulating the body, breathing, mind, qi, and spirit. Dr. Yang, a renowned author, scholar, and martial artist, devoted decades to researching and writing this book. He interprets and analyzes the 81 chapters of the Dao De Jing. His commentary will bring new insight, inspiration, and depth to your understanding of Lao Tzu's words-and to your qigong practice. This book includes The complete Dao De Jing in English and its original Chinese text Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming's commentary and analysis of each chapter Numerous illustrations and diagrams The Dao De Jing: A Qigong Interpretation is not a book of instruction. It is about the Way-the path before us, in qigong and in life, where what you achieve comes through your own understanding.

IN 1909, ARTIST PAMELA COLMAN SMITH, under the direction of Arthur Edward Waite, created an innovative 78-card tarot deck that would come to be recognized as revolutionary. With descriptive pictures on the 56 minor Arcana cards, the Rider-Waite deck digressed from the tradition of tarot decks used for centuries and set the standard for nearly every tarot deck published.
These cards were painted by Lady Frieda Harris according to instructions from the occult scholar, Aleister Crowley. The magnificent art deco work contains kabalistic and astrological attributions described in Aleister Crowley’s Book of Thoth. The stunning art deco artwork of the Thoth is rich in Egyptian symbolism. To each of the twenty-two Major Trumps of the tarot is assigned, by tradition, a Hebrew letter and a path on the Tree of Life, as well as an astrological sign, element, or planet. The deck also reflects Crowley’s interest in alchemy and magic. Crowley Thoth Tarot has attracted a worldwide following, both for its striking beauty and for its complex depiction of occult knowledge. Since its initial publication in 1969, the deck has never been out of print. Included with the deck is a booklet of instruction, which contains two essays by Lady Frieda Harris and a commentary by Stuart R. Kaplan. Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot has been named one of the Top Ten Tarot Decks of All Time by Aeclectic Tarot.
The Green World Oracle focuses on trees and plants as primal symbols of life. Each has an oracular voice, as do the nature spirits, devas, and deities associated with them. Trees speak to us of living in balance with all of life. People often refer to their "roots," the "fruits" of their labor, trees of wisdom, and trees of good and evil. Abused women in Greek mythology are rescued by being turned into trees; children are born from them; gods like Osiris are entombed in them; sacred fire is struck from them; the voice of Moses' deity came from one. We plant a tree to celebrate a wedding, a birth, or to mourn a death. Humankind has always sensed the presence of spirits, or "otherness," around trees. This oracle gives voice to their rich, caring insights. A beautifully designed deck of thirty-three cards offers access to these mysterious realms.Includes cards and book. |
