The Political Economy of Punishment Today - Visions, Debates and Challenges (Hardcover): Dario Melossi, Maximo Sozzo, Jose... The Political Economy of Punishment Today - Visions, Debates and Challenges (Hardcover)
Dario Melossi, Maximo Sozzo, Jose Brandariz Garcia
R4,493 Discovery Miles 44 930 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Over the last fifteen years, the analytical field of punishment and society has witnessed an increase of research developing the connection between economic processes and the evolution of penality from different standpoints, focusing particularly on the increase of rates of incarceration in relation to the transformations of neoliberal capitalism. Bringing together leading researchers from diverse geographical contexts, this book reframes the theoretical field of the political economy of punishment, analysing penality within the current economic situation and connecting contemporary penal changes with political and cultural processes. It challenges the traditional and common sense understanding of imprisonment as 'exclusion' and posits a more promising concept of imprisonment as a 'differential' or 'subordinate' form of 'inclusion'. This groundbreaking book will be a key text for scholars who are working in the field of punishment and society as well as reaching a broader audience within law, sociology, economics, criminology and criminal justice studies.

The Enforcement of Offender Supervision in Europe - Understanding Breach Processes (Hardcover): Miranda Boone, Niamh Maguire The Enforcement of Offender Supervision in Europe - Understanding Breach Processes (Hardcover)
Miranda Boone, Niamh Maguire
R4,495 Discovery Miles 44 950 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book provides a comparative analysis of the process of breach across ten different European jurisdictions by identifying and elaborating a number of key analytical themes through which the different systems can be compared and evaluated. It is informed by and hopes to advance the research activities of the COST Action IS1106 on Offender Supervision in Europe, particularly the Action's work on developing new comparative methodologies to examine the process of decision-making involved in the breaching of offenders for non-compliance. This volume consists of country chapters and thematic chapters. Analyses are based on exhaustive reviews of the literature available in each jurisdiction as well as the results of an empirical pilot study to provide a unique and valuable insight into current practice as well as enhancing our understanding of the contingencies and vagaries of the processes of breach as they exist in both civil and common law European jurisdictions. The key themes and emerging concerns that are explored include: the roles and responsibilities of the different actors involved in the breach process; the degree and nature of discretion exercised by decision-makers; and legitimacy, due process and procedural requirements of breach processes both from a pan-European and from a comparative perspective. This book will be of interest to criminal lawyers and criminologists, policy makers, criminal justice practitioners, probation workers and students of criminal justice studies across Europe. Comparative insight into the decision-making processes of breach across Europe will also be of interest to American, Canadian and Australian audiences seeking comparisons with their own systems.

Punishment and Crime - The Limits of Punitive Crime Control (Paperback): Gary Kleck, Brion Sever Punishment and Crime - The Limits of Punitive Crime Control (Paperback)
Gary Kleck, Brion Sever
R2,411 Discovery Miles 24 110 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book summarizes and synthesizes a vast body of research on the effects of legal punishment and criminal behavior. Covering studies conducted between 1967 and 2015, Punishment and Crime evaluates the assertion that legal punishment reduces crime by investigating the impacts, both positive and negative, of legal punishment on criminal behavior, with emphasis on the effects of punitive crime control policies via the mechanisms of deterrence and incapacitation. Brion Sever and Gary Kleck, author of the renowned Point Blank: Guns and Violence in America, present a literature review on legal punishment in the United States that is unparalleled in depth and scope. This text is a must-read for students, researchers, and policymakers concerned with the fields of corrections and crime prevention.

Kasia Uzieblo, Wineke J. Smid, Kieran McCartan
R3,359 Discovery Miles 33 590 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides an up-to-date analysis of major issues in the field of sexual abuse, both established and emerging, and asks how we can develop the most evidence-based, fit-for-purpose approach in responding to and preventing it. Sexual abuse is a multi-disciplinary, international issue that exists at the crossroads of theory, practice, and research. Therefore, the book is future-facing and asks the reader to critically reflect upon current and future research and practice, and to ask: what next? In doing this the book examines the theory, research, and practice on a range of topics including, grooming behaviors, risk management, risk assessment, sexual fantasies, professional engagement, and policy development. These, and other essential topics for effective and efficient care for people who have committed sexual offenses, are addressed as part of the ultimate goal to reduce and even eliminate sexual victimization in the future.

Norms and Illegality - Intimate Ethnographies and Politics (Hardcover): Cristiana Panella, Walter E. Little Norms and Illegality - Intimate Ethnographies and Politics (Hardcover)
Cristiana Panella, Walter E. Little; Contributions by Florence E. Babb, Isabella Clough Marinaro, Michael Herzfeld, …
R2,861 Discovery Miles 28 610 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Norms and Illegality: Intimate Ethnographies and Politics explores liminal and illegal practices in relation to political control and cultural normativity. The contributors draw on years of ethnographic experiences in Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Italy, Madagascar, Mali, Philippines, and Thailand to study the contradictions of what is legal and illegal. They explore the production of illegal subjects by the state, the creation of illegal and normative values by liminal and illegal actors, and the mutual entanglements of legal and illegal in the public domains of markets and trade networks. This volume shows that criminalization policies are not necessarily oriented toward erasing crime. Instead, the contributors maintain that opaque spaces ensure the efficacy of control and outwardly conform to the rhetoric and ethics of global neoliberalism. Within these contexts, the contributors shed light on moral economies and frames of value entailed in systems of representation that have been set up by individuals who are deemed illegal, liminal, or deviant in their confrontations with the state.

Women's Transitions from Prison - The Post-Release Experience (Hardcover): Rosemary Sheehan, Chris Trotter Women's Transitions from Prison - The Post-Release Experience (Hardcover)
Rosemary Sheehan, Chris Trotter
R4,488 Discovery Miles 44 880 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Women continue to be one of the fastest growing groups of offenders with an increasing group of women involved in the criminal justice system around the world. Whilst internationally women comprise a low percentage of the total prison population, there is an escalating use of custody inextricably linked to the high levels of personal and social needs of women involved in the justice system. This book presents original research undertaken with Corrections Victoria, Australia, which examines the effectiveness of services and programmes women access in prison and after release, and the impact of this on successful reintegration into the community and on other trends such as reoffending. Victoria's Department of Justice introduced the Better Pathways strategy in response to a growing number of women entering the Victorian corrections system, and the concerning extent to which prison is used for women with inadequate accommodation and complex treatment and support needs. The strategy was developed to address the causes of women's offending and to try and help break the cycle of women's reoffending, by funding more holistic initiatives to support women in their transition to life after prison. It is well acknowledged that pathways into offending by women can also be the factors that most affect their reintegration. The research outlined in this book presents data about individual women's pathways through the programmes offered as part of the Better Pathways strategy and the views of the women themselves about the effectiveness of these programmes. Negligible research attention has been paid to what services and programmes are effective for women after prison. This book addresses this gap and provides a cohesive presentation of the key issues salient to the needs of women offenders.

Ideas on Institutions - analysing the literature on long-term care and custody (Hardcover): Kathleen Jones, A.J. Fowles Ideas on Institutions - analysing the literature on long-term care and custody (Hardcover)
Kathleen Jones, A.J. Fowles
R3,073 Discovery Miles 30 730 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

First published in 1984, Ideas on Institution is a review of the major English-language literature of the past two decades on the experience of living in institutions - hospitals, mental hospitals, prisons. The survey opens with a consideration of the writings of Erving Goffman, Michael Foucault, and Thomas Szasz. They shattered the liberal consensus that the purpose of imprisonment was to reform. Instead, their work argued that the purpose of prisons and mental hospitals was social control, and that prisons created criminals, and mental facilities created mental illness. Part II looks at four British studies : Russell Barton's Institutional Neurosis which suggested the existence of a new disease entity; Peter Townsend's The Last Refuge, a study of old people in residential care; The Morrisses' Pentonville, a study of a London prison which became a classic in criminology; and Sans Everything, a symposium which paved the way for a series of official hospital enquiries in the 1970s. Part III examines David Rothman's two historical studies on how and why the U.S. constructed institutions, and how and why reform movements failed; N.N. Kittrie's The Right to be Different, a wide-ranging attack on the compulsory treatment of a variety of 'deviants', including the mentally ill, juvenile delinquents and drug abusers; Cohen and Taylor's Psychological survival, a disturbing analysis of the lives of long-term prisoners in a maximum security wing; Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Experiment on the malignant effects of prison conditions on the personalities of both prisoners and their guards; and King and Elliott's study of Albany Prison, showing how a promising therapeutic experiment went wrong. This book will be of interest to students of history, gerontology, sociology, social policy, penology, psychology and political science.

The Special Constabulary - Historical Context, International Comparisons and Contemporary Themes (Hardcover): Karen Bullock,... The Special Constabulary - Historical Context, International Comparisons and Contemporary Themes (Hardcover)
Karen Bullock, Andrew Millie
R4,486 Discovery Miles 44 860 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Special constables are warranted officers retained within British constabularies. Wearing similar uniforms, carrying the same personal protective equipment and holding identical powers to enforce the criminal law, special constables are to all intents and purposes indistinguishable from their colleagues in the regular police service. However, very little is documented about the experiences and motivations of special constables, the roles they play in contemporary policing or the impact that they have on the police organisation. This book draws together academics and practitioners to provide a valuable insight into historical, international and contemporary themes pertinent to the historical development and contemporary operation of the special constabulary. The book critically considers the origins of the special constabulary and the political, social and economic factors which led to its evolution over time. It compares and contrasts the organisation, functions and status of the special constabulary with other auxiliary forces, notably from the United States. The book also contributes to theoretical understanding of contemporary policing, to debates about the roles and operation of the 'mixed economy' of provision, and informs policy and practice in the United Kingdom and beyond.

State Punishment - Political Principles and Community Values (Paperback, Revised): Nicola Lacey State Punishment - Political Principles and Community Values (Paperback, Revised)
Nicola Lacey
R1,467 Discovery Miles 14 670 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Nicola Lacey presents a new approach to the question of the moral justification of punishment by the State. She focuses on the theory of punishments in context of other political questions, such as the nature of political obligation and the function and scope of criminal law. Arguing that no convincing set of justifying reasons has so far been produced, she puts forward a theory of punishments which places the values of the community at its centre.

Experiencing Imprisonment - Research on the experience of living and working in carceral institutions (Paperback): Carla Reeves Experiencing Imprisonment - Research on the experience of living and working in carceral institutions (Paperback)
Carla Reeves
R1,625 Discovery Miles 16 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The growing body of work on imprisonment, desistance and rehabilitation has mainly focused on policies and treatment programmes and how they are delivered. Experiencing Imprisonment reflects recent developments in research that focus on the active role of the offender in the process of justice. Bringing together experts from around the world and presenting a range of comparative critical research relating to key themes of the pains of imprisonment, stigma, power and vulnerability, this book explores the various ways in which offenders relate to the justice systems and how these relationships impact the nature and effectiveness of their efforts to reduce offending. Experiencing Imprisonment showcases cutting-edge international and comparative critical research on how imprisonment is experienced by those people living and working within imprisonment institutions in North America and Northern, Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Scandinavia. The research explores the subjective experience of imprisonment from the perspective of a variety of staff and prisoner groups, including juveniles, adult female and male prisoners, older prisoners, sex offenders, wrongfully convicted offenders and newly released prisoners. Offering a unique view of what it is like to be a prisoner or a prison officer, the chapters in this book argue for a prioritisation of understanding the subjective experiences of imprisonment as essential to developing effective and humane systems of punishment. This is essential reading for academics and students involved in the study of criminology, penology and the sociology of imprisonment. It will also be of interest to Criminal Justice practitioners and policymakers around the globe.

Change or Continuity in Drug Policy - The Roles of Science, Media, and Interest Groups (Hardcover): Julie Tieberghien Change or Continuity in Drug Policy - The Roles of Science, Media, and Interest Groups (Hardcover)
Julie Tieberghien
R4,908 Discovery Miles 49 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

While evidence-based policy is an emerging rhetoric of the desire by and for governments to develop policies based on the best available evidence, drug policy is an area where particular challenges abound. This book is a detailed and comprehensive examination of the contours of drug policy development through the consideration of the particular roles of science, media, and interest groups. Using Belgium as the primary case-study, supplemented by insights gathered from other countries, the author contributes to a richer understanding of the science-policy nexus in the messy, real-world complexities of drug policy. Change or Continuity in Drug Policy: The Roles of Science, Media, and Interest Groups is the first book to bring together policy and media theories, knowledge utilisation models, and public scholarship literature. As such, the book provides unique insights relevant to aspects of change or continuity in drug policies in Europe and beyond. This book will be of great value to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as to academics, practitioners and policymakers with interest in the science-policy nexus with a particular focus on the drug policy domain.

Sticks and Stones (Paperback): Paul Scrase Sticks and Stones (Paperback)
Paul Scrase
R274 Discovery Miles 2 740 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A memoir by a man who tells his story with brutal honesty, this book delves into the darker side of Bristol - a side that few even know about. Paul Scrase ran brothels, had a hand in drugs, and spent time in prison. But he is also shown as a loving family man, someone who managed to successfully run legitimate companies and help train construction workers in the Middle East. No, this is not a book of glamour and airy prose, but a rollicking account of things most readers will find shocking - providing an insight into Bristol like never before. Yet what could amount to a rogue's tale of misdeeds is also an intensely human journey, imparting lessons to us all. "Bristol - a city renown for its creativity, `green' ethos, and vibrant cultural scene. But behind the acclaim and awards is a world of crime, prostitution, grinding poverty and violence. Paul Scrase's book reveals this world like no other."

Race, Gender, and Class in Criminology - The Intersections (Paperback): agan Milovanovic, Martin D. Schwartz Race, Gender, and Class in Criminology - The Intersections (Paperback)
agan Milovanovic, Martin D. Schwartz
R1,254 Discovery Miles 12 540 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

These essays, first published in 1996, focus on class, race, and gender as organising and analytical concepts in criminology. For many years, their importance in studying how the world relates to crime and its control was minimized or ignored. It is clear, however, that these concepts are of critical importance in understanding societal issues, especially crime and societal responses to it. This title will be of interest to students of criminology.

Money and the Governance of Punishment - A Genealogy of the Penal Fine (Hardcover): Patricia Cabana Money and the Governance of Punishment - A Genealogy of the Penal Fine (Hardcover)
Patricia Cabana
R4,491 Discovery Miles 44 910 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Money is the most frequently means used in the legal system to punish and regulate. Monetary penalties outnumber all other sanctions delivered by criminal justice in many jurisdictions, imprisonment included. More people pay fines than go to prison and in some jurisdictions many of those in prison are there because of failure to pay their fines. Therefore, it is surprising how little has been written in the Anglophone academic world about the nature of money sanctions and their specific characteristics as legal sanctions. In many ways, legal innovations related to money sanctions have been poorly understood. This book argues that they are a direct consequence of the changing meaning of money. Considering the 'meaninglessness' of modern money, the book aims to examine the history of changing conceptions in how fines have been conceived and used. Using a set of interpretative techniques sensitive to how money and freedom are perceived, the genealogy of the penal fine is presented as a story of constant reformulation in response to shifting political pressures and changes in intellectual developments that influenced ideological commitments of legislators and practitioners. This book is multi-disciplinary and will appeal to those engaged with criminology, sociology and philosophy of punishment, socio-legal studies, and criminal law.

Pre-crime - Pre-emption, precaution and the future (Paperback): Jude McCulloch, Dean Wilson Pre-crime - Pre-emption, precaution and the future (Paperback)
Jude McCulloch, Dean Wilson
R1,486 Discovery Miles 14 860 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Pre-crime aims to pre-empt 'would-be-criminals' and predict future crime. Although the term is borrowed from science fiction, the drive to predict and pre-empt crime is a present-day reality. This book critically explores this major twenty-first century development in crime and justice. This first in-depth study of pre-crime defines and describes different types of pre-crime and compares it to traditional post-crime and crime risk approaches. It analyses the rationales that underpin pre-crime as a response to threats, particularly terrorism, and shows how it is spreading to other areas. It also underlines the historical continuities that prefigure the emergence of pre-crime, as well as exploring the new technologies and forms of surveillance that claim the ability to predict crime and identify future criminals. Through the use of examples and case studies it provides insights into how pre-crime generates the crimes it purports to counter, providing compelling evidence of the problems that arise when we act as if we know the future and aim to control it through punishing, disrupting or incapacitating those we predict might commit future crimes. Drawing on literature from criminology, law, international relations, security and globalization studies, this book sets out a coherent framework for the continued study of pre-crime and addresses key issues such as terminology, its links to past practises, its likely future trajectories and its impact on security, crime and justice. It is essential reading for academics and students in security studies, criminology, counter-terrorism, surveillance, policing and law, as well as practitioners and professionals in these fields.

It will also be of great interest to practitioners.

Inmates' Narratives and Discursive Discipline in Prison - Rewriting personal histories through cognitive-behavioral... Inmates' Narratives and Discursive Discipline in Prison - Rewriting personal histories through cognitive-behavioral programs (Paperback)
Jennifer Schlosser
R1,485 Discovery Miles 14 850 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The question of 'what works' in offender treatment has dominated the field of prisoner re-entry and recidivism research for the last thirty years. One of the primary ways the criminal justice system tries to reduce the rates of recidivism among offenders is through the use of cognitive behavioural programs (CBP) as in-prison intervention strategies. The emphasis for these programs is on the idea that inmates are in prison because they made poor choices and bad decisions. Inmates' thinking is characterized as flawed and the purpose of the program is to teach them to think and act in socially appropriate ways so they will be less inclined to return to prison after their release. This book delves into the heart of one such cognitive behavioural programme, examines its inner workings, its effects on inmates' narrated experience and considers what happens when a CBP of substandard quality and integrity is used as a gateway for inmates' release. Based on original empirical research, this book provides realistic suggestions for improving policy, for reforming current in-prison programs engaging in problematic practices and for instituting alternatives that take the needs of the inmates into greater account. This book is essential reading for students and academics engaged in the study of sociology, criminal justice, prisons, social policy, sentencing and punishment.

Michael Braswell, John Fuller, Bo Lozoff
R5,337 Discovery Miles 53 370 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book views peacemaking as a broad, encompassing process that is expressed in many different shapes and forms. It blends ancient-wisdom traditions, peacemaking criminology, and restorative justice principles as a way of intervening with offenders in both institutional and community-based settings. Philosophical and spiritual contexts for peacemaking are presented that form a foundation for understanding the potential for peacemaking in criminological thought, the criminal justice system, and society in general.

Correctional Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Communities - Reducing Recidivism Through Behavior Change (Hardcover): Jennifer... Correctional Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Communities - Reducing Recidivism Through Behavior Change (Hardcover)
Jennifer Pealer
R4,905 Discovery Miles 49 050 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Drawing on original research on the effectiveness of a therapeutic community (TC) in reducing recidivism among juvenile male offenders, Correctional Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Communities: Reducing Recidivism Through Behavior Change provides a comprehensive review of the current state of drug treatment for the offending population, especially the link between juvenile offending and substance abuse. The book assesses the factors predicting successful completion of treatment as well as the methodological limitation of previous TC program reviews, and suggests policy implication and routes for future research. Using improvements such as multiple outcome criteria, long-term follow-up, matching groups on risk and needs, and the employment of a standardized instrument to measure program quality, Correctional Rehabilitation assesses the degree to which participation in the TC affects antisocial attitudes and reduces delinquency. Readers will explore how TCs can be designed to influence adolescent drug offenders and ultimately reduce recidivism. This book is essential reading for students, researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders focusing on the development of treatment programs.

The Myth of Prison Rape - Sexual Culture in American Prisons (Hardcover): Mark S Fleisher, Jessie L. Krienert The Myth of Prison Rape - Sexual Culture in American Prisons (Hardcover)
Mark S Fleisher, Jessie L. Krienert
R3,341 Discovery Miles 33 410 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Myth of Prison Rape provides a nuanced glimpse into the complex sexual dynamics of American prison. Drawing on results from the most comprehensive study of inmate sexuality to date, Mark S. Fleisher and Jessie L. Krienert analyze the intricacies of sexuality and sexual violence in daily inmate life. Pulled from over 500 interviews from male and female high-security inmates, their research assesses inmate perception, belief, opinion, and explanation of their own behavior as it relates directly and indirectly to sexual life and sexual violence. Dynamic case studies and interview excerpts enliven this cultural study of sexuality, safety, and violence in American prisons, and an appendix introduces readers to prison sexual vocabulary.

Justice and Warfare in Aboriginal Australia (Hardcover): Christophe Darmangeat Justice and Warfare in Aboriginal Australia (Hardcover)
Christophe Darmangeat
R3,191 Discovery Miles 31 910 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Meticulously examining ethnographic sources, Christophe Darmangeat argues that warfare among Australian Aborigines was often an extension of their penal systems. He demonstrates how violent conflict occurred when circumstances prohibited regulated judicial proceedings.

Rethinking Punishment - Challenging Conventions in Research and Policy (Hardcover): Karol Lucken Rethinking Punishment - Challenging Conventions in Research and Policy (Hardcover)
Karol Lucken
R4,488 Discovery Miles 44 880 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

There are visible signs that the "get-tough" era of punishment is finally winding down. A "get-smart" agenda has emerged that aims to reduce costs and crime by reducing the incarceration of non-violent drug offenders, expanding use of community-based corrections, revising sentencing structures, and supporting offender re-entry into the community. This change in policy affords an opportunity to re-examine and challenge certain other conventions in the study and practice of punishment. Each chapter of Rethinking Punishment examines a convention and posits arguments that challenge that convention and expand the conversation. These arguments are based on the prior literature, existing and original data, and historical documents. These conventions and arguments for rethinking punishment are framed accordingly: Justifying Penal Policy Defining the Attributes of Punishment Measuring the Scope and Severity of Punishment Evaluating Effectiveness in Punishment Finally, the author provides specific recommendations for research and policy based on these original arguments. Drawing on underlying philosophical, empirical and political issues and offering a critical discussion of the relationship between research, policy and practice, this book makes compelling and instructive reading for students taking courses in criminal justice, corrections, philosophy of punishment, the sociology of punishment, and law and justice.

The Practice of Punishment - Towards a Theory of Restorative Justice (Hardcover, New): Wesley Cragg The Practice of Punishment - Towards a Theory of Restorative Justice (Hardcover, New)
Wesley Cragg
R1,139 Discovery Miles 11 390 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

In the latter half of the twentieth century, there has been a sharp decline in confidence in sentencing principles, due to a questioning of the efficacy of punishment. It has been very difficult to develop consistent, fair, and humane criteria for evaluating legislative, judicial and correctional advancements. "The Practice of Punishment" offers a comprehensive study of punishment that identifies the principles of sentencing and corrections on which modern correctional systems should be built.
The theory of punishment that emerges is built on the view that the central function of the law is to reduce the need to use force in the resolutions of disputes. In this text, Wesley Cragg argues that the proper role of sentencing and sentence administration, as well as policing and adjudication, is to sustain public confidence in the capacity of the law to fulfill that function. Cragg believes that sentencing and corrections should be guided by principles of restorative justice, and he contends that inflicting punishment is in itself not a legitimate objective of criminal law.
"The Practice" "of Punishment" is a philosophical account of punishment, sentencing, and correction which draws strongly on first-hand experience of penal practices, diverse recent studies, government reports, position papers, crime surveys, and victim concerns. It will be of special interest to applied ethicists, those concerned with the theory and practice of punishment and policing, and criminal justice scholars and lawyers.

Roger Matthews
R3,700 Discovery Miles 37 000 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book responds to the claim that criminology is becoming socially and politically irrelevant despite its exponential expansion as an academic sub-discipline. It does so by addressing the question 'what is to be done' in relation to a number of major issues associated with crime and punishment. The original contributions to this volume are provided by leading international experts in a wide range of issues. They address imprisonment, drugs, gangs, cybercrime, prostitution, domestic violence, crime control, as well as white collar and corporate crime. Written in an accessible style, this collection aims to contribute to the development of a more public criminology and encourages students and researchers at all levels to engage in a form of criminology that is more socially relevant and more useful.
