hugely popular Killer Su Doku series from The Times, featuring the
highest-quality puzzles with an extra element of arithmetic. These
puzzles will test your skills to the limit, adding the challenge of
arithmetic and taking Su Doku to a new and even deadlier level of
difficulty. The puzzles use the same 9x9 grid as Su Doku but with
an added mathematical challenge. The aim is not only to complete
every row, column and cube so that it contains the numbers 1-9, it
is also necessary to ensure that the outlined cubes add up to the
same number as well. With 200 new Moderate, Tricky, Tough and
Deadly Killer Su Doku puzzles, there is no chance to ease yourself
in with simple puzzles. These puzzles are for those who like to
live dangerously and push beyond their mental comfort zone.
The full autobiography of one of the world's most well known
adventurers. Heinrich Harrer, traveller, explorer and mountaineer
led one of the most extraordinary lives of the twentieth century.
He famously spent Seven Years in Tibet (published in 1953 and made
into the film starring Brad Pitt in 1997) and was tutor, mentor and
a lifelong friend of the Dalai Lama. He made the first ascent of
the notorious North Face of the Eiger (told in his book The White
Spider) and summited unclimbed peaks in Alaska, the Himalaya and
South America. In this dramatic autobiography he brings to life all
of his adventures, from growing up in a small mountain village in
Carinthia, to the early days of climbing in the Alps, his success
on the Eiger in 1938, through his time in Tibet, to his later
expeditions. Looking back in his 90's on a long life full of
adventures, Harrer candidly recounts his meeting with Adolf Hitler
and his flirtation with the Nazi regime in the late 1930's. He
reviews his time in Tibet and reveals many never before disclosed
details. He chronicles his later expeditions that include the first
ascent of Carstenz Pyramid in New Guinea, exploration of the Amazon
with King Leopold III of Belgium and ethnological research and
travels to remote parts of Asia, South America and Africa. This
book brings to life his incredible life, much of which is little
known outside his standout achievements.

The Neolithic village known as Skara Brae was continuously occupied
for about 300 to 400 years, before being abandoned around 2500 BC.
Despite severe coastal erosion, eight houses and a workshop have
survived largely intact, with their stone furniture still in place.
This is the best-preserved settlement of its period in northern
Europe, and thousands of artefacts were discovered during
excavations of the site. Who lived here? How did they live? And why
did they ultimately abandon the village? In this lively account, Dr
David Clarke, who led major excavations at Orkney's Skara Brae,
describes the details of the site and explores some of the enigmas
posed by this extraordinary survival.

Wilderness. The Flat Tops Wilderness Area is unique, a high plateau
at 11,000 feet. Its nearly flat surface is covered with woodlands
and alpine meadows, pockmarked with hundreds of lakes and drained

wilderness. The Hiking and Camping Guide to the Flat Tops
Wilderness gives detailed directions to each trailhead and
describes what you will find along the many trails. You will
discover the many wonders of the Flat Tops; its geologic history
from the episodes of mountain building and subsistence, and

seasons are all described. You will also learn common sense ways to
protect wilderness environment as well as yourself on a visit to

area, and this book, includes infamous trails like the stunning
Devil’s Causeway and lesser known trails like Wall Lake Trail.
Readers will find detailed maps, history and flora and fauna,

A stunning look inside the gorgeous homes and creative spaces of
Martha’s Vineyard, capturing the true soul of Vineyard life and
the artisans who live thereWhile the Hamptons has stolen all the
attention as the chic summer spot, a secret society of tastemakers
and creatives have chosen the lower-key island of Martha’s
Vineyard to hone their crafts and make their homes. The picturesque
island just six miles off the coast of Cape Cod has a long history
as a geographical muse for artists and writers: Lillian Hellman and
William Styron wrote while overlooking the Vineyard Haven harbor,
and Thomas Hart Benton painted the winding roads of what is known
as “Up-island” more than 100 years ago.Vineyard Folk reveals
how a new generation continues to build on these creative legacies,
resulting in homes as unique and diverse as their creators.
Directly informed by their personalities and the varied island
landscapes, the result is a mix of weathered, sea-side ambience,
cutting-edge design, and New England tradition. From modern glass
houses overlooking the red cliffs of Aquinnah and jewel-box fishing
cottages in Menemsha to rambling farmhouses behind Chilmark’s
hand-built stone walls, the candy-colored Victorians of Oak
Bluff’s historical African American community, and stately
19th-century whaling Captain mansions in Edgartown, all the homes
have stories to tell and inspiration to share. Contributor list:

Written by Arctic expert Polly Evans, this new, thoroughly updated
fourth edition of Bradt's Northern Lights: a Practical Travel Guide
does what it says on the tin, providing practical guidance to the
best places to view the natural phenomenon also known as the aurora
borealis. Designed for the many people who dream of witnessing this
spectacle, it remains the only guidebook to provide detailed
treatment of optimum locations across North America (Canada,
Alaska), Greenland and Europe (Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland)
while also covering practicalities, with this edition providing
greater detail on a wider range of accommodation options, from
budget hotels to Sweden's spectacular ICEHOTEL, built each year
from river water before melting in spring. The northern lights -
arguably the greatest light show you'll ever see - are a major,
increasingly popular tourist draw of the Arctic and sub-Arctic
winter. The experience is also increasingly popular: in the decade
to 2016, winter tourism to northern Norway increased by 378%. As
well as advice on the best places to see auroras, this guide offers
a succinct, easy-to-understand explanation of the science behind
the northern lights, and provides information on tour operators
offering northern lights packages, up-to-date guidance on
photographing the aurora in the light of technological
improvements, alongside practical tips including what to wear, how
to drive in winter conditions and how to understand northern lights
forecasting. The guide is further enriched by suggestions for
complementary daytime activities such as dog sledging, skiing,
snowshoeing, snowmobiling and wildlife safaris; an examination of
the reactions of the early explorers to their first sightings of
this phenomenon; and insights into the myths and legends of the
northern indigenous peoples. There is even advice on how and where
to get married in ice chapels! Whether the northern lights are
still on your bucket list or you are an experienced aurora
aficionado, Bradt's comprehensive guide to the Northern Lights
remains the essential companion to planning and getting the most
out of any trip to watch one of the world's most remarkable events.

This is not a guide to the islands of Scotland. This is not a tour
to be followed, nor is it travel advice. This is a richly anecdotal
and personal exploration. Richard Clubley shares the sense of
freedom he finds in the Scottish islands as he discovers their
individual character, beauty and diversity. He meets locals and
learns a few realities of island life. He almost perished on Ailsa
Craig, before finding fresh water dripping from the roof of a cave,
but spends two idyllic nights alone on Mingulay, with a fabulous
coal fire in a bothy. His passion for Scottish islands shines
through every chapter. Curl up by the fire, pull the blanket close
and sip on your dram. You’re about to escape to the islands.
Prepare for addiction. A book for islomanes to savour in sips.
Night caps are suggested; that way the addiction can be controlled.

(Re)discover Art Nouveau at the heart of Brussels. At the end of
the 19th century, the anti-academic movement pushed Brussels'
architects towards Art Nouveau. Both Victor Horta, in an organic
style, and Paul Hankar, in a more geometrical tendency, created an
architecture that quickly gained an international reputation. In a
little more than a decade, from 1893 on, hundreds of Art
Nouveau-fashioned buildings appeared in Brussels, elaborated first
by the great pioneers and later by their students and imitators who
are also influenced by the Vienna Secession and other trends of
European Art Nouveau. At first, this style fulfilled industrial
bourgeoisie's dreams, yearning to assert itself in the city's
structure through this new, and sometimes exuberant, architecture.
This book offers nine walks to discover - in different districts -
the multiple aspects of architectural Art Nouveau in Brussels.
Witness the personal style of the most important architects as well
as decorative methods such as sgraffito. Through interviews with
owners, custodians and restorers of Art Nouveau-styled buildings,
Brussels Art Nouveau describes the fundamental guardians of this
remarkable heritage.
