This comprehensive, illustrated guide presents representative general surgery, including gastrointestinal tract, hepatobiliary and inguinal hernia. Surgery is generally based on the microanatomy; however, in practice surgery involves more dynamic and floating anatomy. In the last decade, the methods have been constantly improved, shedding new light on classical anatomical science. Laparoscopic is one such methodology. All illustrations presented in this book have been drawn by the author - a pioneering surgeon - and show real-world procedures. All the methods introduced are practical and have been refined based on the precise clinical and embryological anatomy. This unique book offers readers essential insights into efficient and high-integrity surgeries in abdominal region. As such, it is a valuable resource for all gastrointestinal surgeons.
Surgical oncology is now a recognized specialty in the US and several European countries, and cancer surgery takes up a significant part of any general surgeon's workload. This thoroughly updated second edition of this bestseller is officially endorsed as a textbook for the syllabus and curriculum of the UEMS examination in Surgical Oncology, which is administered by ESSO (European Society for Surgical Oncology). The examination is for trainees at the end of training or established consultants seeking to expand their accreditation.
This book examines the considerations, drawbacks, and advancements minimally invasive techniques have provided in the evaluation, management, and outcomes across a broad range of colorectal disease and procedures. For some readers of this book, a minimally invasive approach to colorectal disease may add a new dimension to the management of these patients. For others, it is the opportunity to learn helpful tips, specifics about a certain procedure, or to fine tune what has already become a routine part of their practice. Even if you have successfully overcome many of the technical challenges of minimally invasive surgery, the preoperative evaluation, perioperative decision-making, and management of postoperative complications can be demanding and consuming. Wherever you may be on this spectrum, Robotic Approaches to Colorectal Surgery is a useful resource to surgeons.
Esophageal cancer causes an estimated 386,000 deaths worldwide and is the sixth most common cause of death for men. The background characteristics of esophageal cancer treatment are markedly different between Asian and Western countries, however. In tumor histology, squamous cell carcinoma associated with smoking and alcohol consumption is overwhelmingly prevalent in Asia, whereas adenocarcinoma associated with Barrett's metaplasia is markedly prevalent in the West. In Asia, especially in Japan, the key persons who play important roles in the management of esophageal cancer patients are surgeons; in the West those roles are filled by medical and radiation oncologists as well as surgeons. The philosophy of surgeons regarding cancer surgery varies from locoregional to local tumor control, particularly in focusing on lymph node dissection. Physicians' approach to surgical adjuvant therapy differs, therefore, between Asia and the West. Considering these East-West differences in esophageal cancer treatment, the currently available results of Western evidence should not be considered directly applicable to esophageal cancer in Asia. In this book, the authors discuss the knowledge base in Japan in terms of treatment of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Since this volume contains a wide spectrum of current information and addresses topics surrounding the treatment of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, it is highly relevant to Asian physicians and researchers as well as to their counterparts in the West. |
