A guidebook to 43 circular day walks covering the northern and
eastern Yorkshire Dales. The walks range between 3 and 11.5 miles
in length, and there are suggestions for devising longer days by
combing routes. Step by step route directions include lots of
information about the area, and each walk is illustrated with clear
OS mapping and vibrant photographs. From Pateley Bridge and
Aysgarth in the East to Kirkby Stephen and Richmond in the north,
each valley has a character and history of its own and this guide
covers the varied fell and dale landscapes of the Howgills,
Mallerstang, Swaledale, Wensleydale, Coverdale and Nidderdale. The
north and eastern regions of the Yorkshire Dales are full of wild,
rugged fell tops carved by limestone crags, deep scooped-out dales
with lonely farms far from villages, the ruins of medieval castles
as well as the warm bustle of Dales villages and good pubs. The
Howgills north of Sedbergh have a different look, with their wide
domes, steep sides and long miles of grassy ridges.
Throughout history, the state of Missouri has served as a setting
for a vast array of exciting legend and lore. Within the pages of
this book, W.C. Jameson presents the most complete collection of
the Show Me State's tales of lost mines and buried treasures. With
his gift for storytelling, Jameson relates episodes from the time
of Indian occupation through early settlement, the Civil War, to
the present. As a legendary professional treasure hunter, Jameson
has followed the trails of many of these lost mines and buried
treasures.
This guidebook provides a comprehensive and detailed description of
the GR131, an island-hopping trail across the seven Canary Islands.
The 560km (348 mile) route begins on Lanzarote and finishes on El
Hierro and is presented in 32 daily stages. The route is well
waymarked but some navigational skills are required, and the remote
and occasional rocky sections need to be treated with care. Also
included is an optional ascent of El Teide, the highest peak on
Spanish territory at 3718m. The guide is split into seven parts,
one for each island. Overview statistics, detailed navigational
description and 1:50,000 mapping is provided for each stage and the
guide also includes key information about transport to and between
the Canary Islands and availability of accommodation and services.
There is background information on the geology, history, plants and
wildlife and notes on local points of interest. An appendix
contains a helpful glossary. As a geologically young area, the
Canaries boast rare wildlife across their dramatic volcanic
terrain. The islands contain a number of national parks, and the
landscape varies from semi-desert to forests and barren
mountainsides. This month-long route is a great opportunity for
walkers to fully immerse themselves in the diverse culture and
scenery of the Canary Islands.
