Famous especially for his poem, The Man from Snowy River, Andrew
Barton Paterson was an Australian author from the bush who wrote
especially about the Australian outback. The Shearer's Colt, one of
two novels that Paterson wrote, reflects his lifelong interest in
horses, which began when he watched horsemen from the Murrumbidgee
River area and Snowy Mountains country take part in picnic races
and polo matches.
