This research paper first summarizes the preliminaries to the
Battle of Midway taken by the Japanese and American navies and
provide an overview of the battle with an emphasize on the actions
of the Hornet Air Group. The analysis reconstructs the air group's
events and flight paths on the morning of 4 June. This includes the
spotting of aircraft on the carrier through rendezvous to the
attack by VT-8 and the failure and losses incurred by the rest of
the air group. The analysis provides a detailed factual explanation
of the events and actions by the air group based on CDR Rings
letter and naval documents.
